How to summon a member

[Fukyo]

Now you can address a member directly, by putting a @ prefix in front of their name, and they will get a notification with a link to the post where they've been summoned.

Like so:

@Minuend
@Cognisant
@The Gopher
@EyeSeeCold
@Adaire


Useful for when you want to get an answer, make sure your post isn't overlooked or just plain being an annoyance.


Thread carefully though...there are some dormant beasts you would hate to disturb...like the infamous Kuuthile.

@Fukyo, I see a "Quotes" tab and a "Thread Tags" tab on the user profile. Have those been implemented yet?

Thread tags add a box containing names of tagged people above threads, which is busy, ugly and unnecessary.

Quotes would give users a notification each time someone quotes them and it's disabled for the time being, while I see which is more practical or desired, mentions or quotes, since both features have the same function essentially; prompting the user the get involved in a discussion. Both of them enabled would be nuisance, I think, and pile up too many notifications. Not that some members aren't intent on making the mentions a nuisance already...

I would personally be pro-quote notification and anti-mentions.

The quotes because sometimes someone quotes something you said like two years ago in a thread you don't even follow anymore, and it's nice to be informed of that, since you'd likely never realize someone was responding to you otherwise. Also for the rare occasions when someone quotes something you said in one thread in a different thread. Plus maybe you don't want to have to click on all the threads you remember posting in just to see if any of the new responses were directed at you, it's nice to just log in and see what and where.

Mentions however require you personally decide whether or not that person deserves to be summoned. So it's like... "Is this going to bug them? Do I mention them too much already? Is this going to seem attention whore-y? Should I do the mention or just say their name normally here? etc." I don't want to have to deal with all that every time I type someone's name (and I don't plan to). Quote notifications are awesome though for all the reasons listed above.

Personal opinion, others likely feel differently.
