Okay, I'm terrible at typing but I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on the following:

Robert Fripp [guy being interviewed] - my difficulty is in determining Te/Fi Fe/ Ti I think.

[spoil] YouTube - Robert Fripp from King Crimson interview pt1 [/spoil]

Don Van Vliet [Again Guy being interviewed] - Me and a friend decided INFJ, but your opinions would be appreciated.

[spoil] YouTube - Beefheart on Letterman [/spoil]

John McLaughlin [being interviewed]

[spoil] YouTube - John McLaughlin interview - "To the one". [/spoil]

Would appreciate your thoughts!

Fripp:
ISFJ I reckon. That face he pulls at 0:44 and at 0:48 are assuredly Fe. Likewise the way he holds his body at the one minute mark: how poised is that? That’s got to be the result of a worldview function with Fe. His eyes and head regularly check to the left, like at 1:18, or 1:25, in a manner associated with Si. In fact his mannerisms reminded me a lot of Tom Cruise as seen at the start of this thread. A friend queried this given the music this guy was involved with: didn’t seem the sort of sound that an Si dominant would write or play. If it is Ni, the guy’s squinting so hard I can’t see it or he’s doing it when his head is bowed or his eyes are closed.

Beefheart:
INFJ I think, although he’s proving a bitch to be sure about. It does seem the case that his Fe is not particularly developed, though I’m inclined, in fact I’m quite certain, it’s partly an act. A fair amount of Ti going on, when he withdraws from the conversation and checks his right: 0:47, 0:54 but it’s almost in response to every question. He seems to have a kind of Ni-Fe sense of timing, knowing the exact moment to pull an emotional cue (or not to) for maximum effect; the example at 0:54. Check out 3:34-39 – where did that come from?! And the 3:47 reaction afterwards: it just seems like he’s playing the audience. And who can blame him when they go on to laugh at his art? His eyes look so spaced out I reckon that’s Ni and that suspect some of the Ti signs are in tandem with this drifting. 12:37 is the most obvious example of Ni I can find in this sample. EDIT: ESTP. Those 'spaced-out' eyes might well just be Se at play; and he doesn't look all that comfortable actually using Fe. That sense of timing I keep alluding to may well simply manifest itself as inferior Ni and little more than a 'gut' feeling. I think I've got the functions down but I'm not sure what order!

McLaughlin:
INFJ. Definitely an Ni dominant; it’s quite nice to have the camera that close to catch all of it. I found it very difficult to differentiate whether he’s just over-using Ti, or if this is Te-Fi. And I’m going to side with the former: firstly because of the face at 2:14 – is that supposed to be a smile? Whatever, it happens after he has made his point and as a means of reinforcing his point: like an extra full stop. I think he’s just using a lot of Ti in his answers and that’s why he’s not particularly animated or engaging, but I don’t see Te-Fi. Te is more aggressive with the eyes; I think this guy just wants to escape the interview. The face at 4:08? I think Fe people are more inclined to posture like that and parody since they highly accentuate emotion and then use it for a point. And despite the face, he’s still quite warm in his interactions: not at all like what I’d imagine most INTJs to be like (though I concede that’s all it is.)

There seems to be an FJ trend going on. Either I’m lousy at typing, or most people have been suckered by their Fe display.

COOL FUNCTIONS MOMENT:

Comment on youtube video:

I just realised Dr. Cox does the whole tilt your head to the left thing that JD does when he goes into his little fantasies.

THAT'S NI! BECAUSE DR COX IS AN INTJ AND JD IS AN INFJ! YAY!

Totally unrelated to typology, and not exactly proof of this method, but it was fun in my head.

Just noticed this:

Because he can go back inside and re live where he was when he took certain turns and what have you. The Jury is still out on whether this is Se at all (And not Ni)
Se is objectified sensing, Ni is unobjectified/subjective intuition. If the person is able to tell you, in objective terms, what the directions are, that is Se. If they "feel" that it is one particular direction but can't actually bring to mind any objective reference, then it is Ni.

When they can both feel out the directions through subjective meaning AND through objective, projective or real-time data checking, they are making full use of A-style Perception. Pretty much any Se or Ni sportsman will have learnt to do this perfectly, at least in a small area. Also, note how when an Ni is trying to objectify the intuition into literal data, they will have to squint (if you have poor vision, you squint when you want to see something in particular), whereas the Se will be wide eyed (Ni can be too, but won't tend to be unless the outside stimulus is especially stimulating of the Ni, e.g. accompanied by a "seeing the light after being in the cave" feeling of Plato.

In general, learning a skill is a combination of biological/physical factors, and psychological factors which roughly amount to applying a function of 8-functional balancing the the set of current information (a homomorphism from its causal information set, with the categorical action added by cognitive processes).
