Actually I really love the Ironman helmet idea, it turns everyone into robots
The faceplate could be a screed of LEDs or better and with noise cancelation you can say smile and the smile emote will appear in the screen, indeed there could be quite a wide range of single word activated emotes like: frown, smirk, pout, uncertain, abashed, ashamed, sexy, etc.
What you're looking at is like an iPad on your face and instead of touching it the interface involves eye tracking, blinking, verbal commands (to speak externally you look at the speak icon to switch external speaking on/off, your voice could be modified too) head tilting, perhaps some degree of jaw and brow movement as well.
In effect your entire head becomes robotic and with it on you can do all sorts of robotic stuff like voice modification, amplification, external sound amplification or reduction, multiple vision modes, full AR, motion tracking, crosshairs automatically linked to the weapon you're holding (or whatever) telescopic and microscopic vision, internal music playing, external music playing, filtering out music or filtering out background noise in favour of speech, perhaps even a specific person's voice, that laser mic trick spies use, etc, etc, etc.
It's also y'know a phone, internet/tv/movie/game device, camera, camcorder, basically EVERYTHING.
