So, I am in the United States, and I just got out of college recently, and I thought it might be cool to work in another country for 2 to 5 years or something like that.

So, if any of you are from outside the states or have had previous expereince working outside the states, I will take whatever advice you have on what countries are cool places to live and work.

I am a 3d artist by training, and at the moment I only speak English. I would be more than willing to learn another langauge, but havn't had the time so far in life.

That is my portfolio for my work, it could be a lot better, but I have had personal issues I had to deal with holding me back. I am willing to take a job doing something like teaching English or something in another country while I work on my stuff and search for a job in my career field.

I live and work in Mexico, teaching English. Teaching opportunities for certified, native-speaking ESL instructors are plentiful, but wages are pretty bad if you intend to teach at a formal school.

I taught at the local Berlitz academy for 3 months at 80 pesos per hour. After my experiences there, I refuse to ever teach at a formal school again.

Changed the status of my visa to 'Private English Professor'. I'm totally independent now. I teach private classes at locations provided by my clients, as well as at our residence. My wife also runs a 'bilingual' day care/after-school care service out of our home.

Overall, Mexico is well-suited to our DIY ethics. Neither my wife nor I have ever 'worked well for others'. Actually, a large part of our decision to relocate here was our kids. We consider the US to be a very self-centered, culturally-bankrupt, sheltered, fearful and paranoid society (to start with). We didn't like the values being imposed on our kids, especially by the US public school system. We felt it would be beneficial to the entire family to experience other cultures firsthand, adapt and learn foreign languages, etc.

Our plan was to try it for a year. That year came and went 6 months ago. At the moment we're living here indefinitely. Currently, we're exploring the idea of starting an English-Spanish exchange school...

But yeah...Mexico; close to you, easy entry and exit, visa availability. Spanish schools everywhere, artisan-friendly culture, economic advantages for those with US based financial resources. All the comforts of 'home'.

Asia is a very broad thing to say... and "not Greece" is an even more broad thing to say, considering that over 99% of the world falls into the category of "not being Greece".

Mexico would be fun, and I like Latina girls, but I don't know if there would be much prospects for furthering my career at all. A lot of good info though.

We are full up. The train network can't even take it anymore.

(Just to make myself sound like one of those right-wing nationalists you have in some of those weirdo political parties in the West, I'll say, "this is not about race").

HA! You cannot stop the expat invasion...

But fear not for your job; all of our lucrative pursuits revolve around our native English-speaking capacities. :)

But don't call us gringos. We're probably browner than you are. :D

Go to Japan and be a builder. They do have a city to rebuild after all.

Heh, that's right. The reason nobody speaks good english here is the abundance of terrible unqualified english "teachers"...

Back when I was in high school our english teacher never read the books we had to read, and got the tests off sparknotes. Good old times.

In most fields of works the gachupin invasion is actually more worrisome.

But don't call us gringos. We're probably browner than you are. :D
Gringoness is not about color, y'know? Anyway... I just wanted to comment on the irony of the situation.

Are Hispanic Americans also considered gringos, then?
Or does it depend on whether they speak Spanish or no?

^This is true.

In fact, if you decide to move there, I don't think you'll need to worry about getting a job ever again. :)

America is a continent, not a nation, so US-citizens are called gringos. Period. It has neither to do with color nor language.

So yes, so-called "hispanic americans" are gringos.
