An INTJ.

I have been lurking here on this forum for a while, and finally, in no small part due to my brother ElvenVeil's insisting, decided to actually make a user. So far I have found this forum to hold oppinions, discussion and people ranging from the odd to the quirky, and from the inane to the sublime.. That breadth of scope is quite stimulating, and a fun read too!

What really draws me in, is the eagerness with which so many interesting subjects are discussed.. Even though I don't always agree with you guys (not that you do yourself :p ), I certainly value the openness.

Oh and a little introduction regarding myself seems to be in order. I am 22 years old, studying politics, economics and environmental science. My interests are very diverse and I appreciate many different subjects ranging from the arts to the sciences..

So without further ado, I am glad to have joined this forum and hope to be able to make some contributions now and then.. :elephant: onwaard!

That is quite a diverse range of subjects. A little bit too diverse. :beatyou:

Are you thinking about hedging in oil? I would buy into gold now then wait until the inflation spike has worked way through the US economy and valued the dollar according. Sell the gold then buy into oil.

No Im not that interested in making a lof of money to be frank.. My interest lies in the delicate and complex interrelatedness of the economy, oil, limits to growth and a host of other factors and how we, as a society, might best descent from the peak of fossil fuels usage..

I would not be too worried. The increased scarcity in fossil fuels will make alternatives more economically viable. I think we are still sitting on 1000 years of coal. Its all good. XD

I don't think this is the place for a more thorough discussion of this (One I am happy to take some time though :P )

So I'll just say this.. Coal is not a substitute for oil, as it can't be used in an ICE. The wellbeing of the economy is to a large degree dependent on cheap energy, and thus the capital free to make the necessecary investment won't be there as easily when it is most needed. Lastly, the transformation away from oil will be a process taking several decades at the very least. Shortages of oil and pricespikes are however very real short term problems, that will only grow worse with time.. This is a short representation of my views, with the reasoning behind omitted, and I would like to make a discussion it at some point :)

Oh and which do you find more interesting: Microeconomics or macroeconomics?

Excellent username, by the way.

One would think that with the U.S.'s current issues more people would have interest in this sort of discussion. Sadly, that is not the case. :slashnew:

Yeah I am a bit baffled by the guest tag as well :s Also have some problems with my profile, as it won't save the edits I do in the "About Me" section.. Any tips?

I am definently a lot more interested in Macro than in Micro.. There are quite a few reasons for this.. For one I find the aspect of uncertainty is more prevalent in macro - something I find to be necessary in any economic model. As touched upon earlier, I am in no way motivated by personal gain, but thrive on trying to understand the great issues of our time and hopefully put my skills to good use for society at some point. The other thing, that attracts me to macro is the aggregation. It fascinates me how some actions can be completely rational for the individual, yet when aggregated it becomes irrational.

And thanks for your approval of my name - I like it as well :)

Cavallier:

I can definently sympathise with your sentiment. It is my view, that we are standing on the treshold of great and significant change that will alter the way both the global economy is structured, but also the way the societal contract between state and citizen functions..

Oh and I won't deny I can be very alluring, but that's just me I guess :elephant:

I gave a response in your help thread but I honestly don't know what's the matter.

I think that last part is because rationality is as much an illusion as consciousness. But that's for another thread.

Hmm. I suppose Macroeconomics is more systematic and easier to work with, dealing with general principles.

I too am not motivated by any personal gain, except to fulfill my need to serve society, I just need a niche field of my own.

And thanks for your approval of my name - I like it as well :)
No prob, again, welcome.

Well I guess you have to get used to it Melkor. :beatyou:

Systems,

Welcome to the forum. I share your interests in the economy and energy. I'm a tax attorney.

Hey Digital Angel!

Thanks for your welcome.. Nice to see others sharing this interest. I didn't really think people here did so, since I couldn't find any threads on the topic.. Well perhaps that's something that can be made up for :)

Sure. As a tax attorney, I like public and private finance. I also like renewable energy. It's fascinating stuff.

My problem could be that I also happen to like physics, biology and some chemistry too. Psychology is interesting too.

Hi & welcome
I do not care much for politics and economics (just for the socio-psychological bits through it). I do love environmental science but regret the lack of fysics and chemics knowledge.
Health psychology and educational science is my thing and I am very much into developing, thinking out systems ;). That is part of my work.
see ya around

It's so weird your account isn't working. Perhaps you could try making a second account and see if that one works like it's supposed to. Then a mod can delete the account that isn't working properly?

WELCOME!

ElvenVeil's bruh? I am deeply jealous of you guys having a sibling you can relate to! I have an ESFJ sister and the common ground is... nonexistent? I guess that's taking it a little far, we do, after all, both exist in corporeal form.
My deepest apologies for misunderstanding your post on space rocks, there is no excuse and I claim full responsibility. I'll do my best to pay attention in future :p

"Bloody Te people and their discussions of things worldly. Get off of our forum! " - I second this.
I could totally tell you were an outsider while misinterpreting said space rocks post, there was far too much evidence and attention to detail for an INTP.
