I can't decide between Time Out and Saxophone Colossus.

Any other favorites?

Speak No Evil is a good one too. Oh, and Giant Steps.

Best Of (1955-1961)The Best Of Miles Davis & John Coltrane: 1955-1961

It's straightforward but very very good.

Rather than starting a new thread, I hope I can get some direction from this one.

I'm pretty open to music genres but the only music I can listen to from the radio is Jazz. Unfortunately it's so spotty as to what exactly is playing. Usually it's just not what I want to hear but I'd really love give the time for Jazz. I'd love to give a listen to all these artists, but my internet is run by hamster wheels and downloading speeds forbid it in a reasonable time... Please, could any of you recommend me some specific artists or songs of faster paced,up beat jazz to listen to? I doubt that's proper terminology, hopefully you know what I mean >,>. Ideally without vocals (I tend to zone into instrumentation and composition of songs, I find many songs rely too much on vocals), but I'm not all that picky if it sounds great

Giant Steps by John Coltrane is a really classic album, and It's pretty fast moving. Art Blakey's album Moanin! is also very good. I've been listening to those two recently.

You're in luck! I think by definition Jazz is instrumental, so with any luck you shouldn't find any vocals :)

An album previously put up 'Saxophone Collosus' by Sonny Rollins is an ideal starting point imo, quite upbeat but also varied and fairly easy listening.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

I loved the song Giant Steps off that album the most, has such a classy charm to it. I haven't managed to get a hold of Art Blakey's album yet, still downloading =/. I went off memory and accidentally downloaded Sonny Rollin's Sonny Side Up instead of Saxophone Collosus, so I'm still waiting for that one to finish. But I loved the album more than Giant Steps, especially the song The Eternal Triangle

There are many of Jazz albums which are my favourite one from which I would like to mention few of them.
1. John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
2. Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
3. Cannonball Adderly - African Waltz
4. Dave Brubeck - Time Out
From these also A Love Supreme is great introduction to the Jazz album.

Caution: thread revival in progress. Again, thread revival in process.

Dark Magus - Miles Davis - is a great live jazz album, funky in a James Brown, Jimi Hendrix way. The album clocks in at about 101 minutes.

Monk's Dream - Thelonous Monk - is one of my favorite Monk albums; one of my favorite albums for that matter.
