One Piece is cool

I don't really watch anime.

Its the one flaw in my otherwise perfectly nerdy life.

I watched a lot of the animes listed years ago and am not as fussed currently. The one that still stands out to me though is Serial Experiments Lain.

I started a local anime club just to watch Death Note. But my favorite anime series remains the series that got me into anime: Berserk.

It is cool, and I don't care how homoerotic it comes off most of the time. I do care that they never finished the story, beginning and ending in very bizarre territory that remains unexplained.

6. Attack on Titan (manga at the moment but I really enjoy it)

That show freaks me out. The first 5 episodes were me being pissed off and disturbed. Which makes it a well done show. I got sick of waiting for new episodes so I started reading the manga. I thought about buying a skin colored body suit and going to a convention as a titan. Just smile all big. I bet people would shit them selves.

I really have no idea why this is shonen!

You should also put some Glasgow smile-like make up if you're going for that Titan-Eren look.

Pokemon is an anime while Avatar is an anime inspired animation.

Your one and two are my runner ups. I love ouran, especially because of how aware it is. It seems to constantly poke fun at its own genre. As for Eden of the East, my narcissistic side just loved to entertain the thought of being a Seleção. But I'd probably just use all my money to nuke every one whilst building an arc for me and those I deem acceptable.

I watch anime for different reasons so I can't say which is the best. But I have watched

Deathnote (stopped halfway through)
FMA (both)
Ouran (Recommended by the girls and according to the crowd sourced skype chat anime blog (which mainly features yaoi of proxy and I -_-) I'm Tamaki[which didn't make sense until I realized it actually made every sense])
No.6 (I think I got this as a random recommendation from the IRC)
Baccano (which ended up hilarious in someways)
Evangelion
Cowboy be bop (used this knowledge to wingman a friend of mine, it worked)
FLCL (if you are trying to explain to someone what anime weird is this is a good start)
Black Butler (duh)
and various others that I can't think of...

Welcome to the NHK

Oh yeah! I forgot that one. I watched it with a friend months back. It was excellent, and on a theme I imagine a lot here would relate to. :D

No mention of Code Geass, Kuu? :>

edit: Death Note was okay. At least it had a theme, but I admit it seemed a little archaic. Light is basically the Old Testament God, defining sin and then eradicating it. I didn't feel it was very in touch with contemporary society that way. It would have been way more convincing/ interesting if he'd treated his murders with more moral ambiguity, rather than the simplistic way he does.

But my impression of it was just: well written, entertaining, but certainly not as cerebral as some would peg it. I'm more irked by shows like DBZ, Naruto and Bleach that don't have much more to them (that I can see) than mindless fighting. (and ninjas :phear:)

I've only watched Naruto, which I've thoroughly enjoyed. I follow it like my mother follows tabloid magazines.

Otherwise, I'm not a huge anime or manga fan.

Haven't watched any for a while, but I like anime that: has a refreshing honesty or dreamlike serenity to it, or that juxtapose cutesiness with violence or realism, that pretty much relies on thick atmosphere or general moods/reflection on mundane situations, or is self-aware/draws attention to genre tropes. I can't stand overly cutesy straight comedies or long melodramatic procedurals.

Some shows I've liked are: Mushishi, Serial Experiments Lain, Welcome to the NHK, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Bakemonogatari, Azumanga Daioh, Magical Girl Madoka Magica, Elfen Lied (to an extent).

Films: Pretty much every Ghibli film, 5 Centimeters per Second, Ghost in the Shell, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Paprika.

I just finished watching Shinsekai yori. I must say that show caused the birth of some intriguing thoughts and even some nightmares. I highly recommend that show.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched it, I might have been too young for such mind fuckery.

Yeah I've watched most of those too, and plan to watch those I haven't yet watched...

Some people swear Texhnolyze is the greatest thing of all time, but I thought it was too pretentious for its own good. Bokurano, Haibane Renmei and Now and then... were quite decent. Dennou Coil, I would have enjoyed more if it had taken its premise to darker corners.

Recently I saw Seikai no Monshou / Crest of the Stars. I'll be watching the rest of the series promptly. T'was pretty enjoyable, like LoGH meets Spice & Wolf:

I don't have a favorite anything, but I'll recommend Suisei no Gargantia, which ended this weekend. It has only 12 episodes but was able to touch points such as evolution, the essence of mankind and steampunk pirates - sort of.

A brief synopsis, that inevitably gives some spoilers of the awesome first episode:

In the distant future, mankind has taken to the stars and formed the Galactic Alliance of Humankind (人類銀河同盟 Jinrui Ginga Dōmei?). The Alliance is engaged in a perpetual war with a tentacled alien species known as the Hideauze (ヒディアーズ Hidiāzu?). 16-year-old Ensign Ledo is a soldier in the Galactic Alliance, piloting a Machine Caliber (マシンキャリバー Mashin Kyaribā?), an AI-automated, humanoid-shaped battle suit, which he refers to as 'Chamber'. After a failed attempt by the Alliance forces to destroy an enemy super-weapon, Ledo is knocked into a wormhole and loses consciousness. When he awakens, he learns from Chamber that he has been in cryo-stasis for 6 months while his wounds were healing. Ledo learns that he and Chamber have been 'found' by a rag-tag band of 'primitive' human scavengers.

The soundtrack for SC is pretty damn awesome.

I've watched sooooo many anime and loved most of them... if I had to cut the list down severely:
All Ghost in the Shell episodes/movies, I wanna see GITS Arise but not until all the episodes are out x.x
Cowboy Bebop

I would probably list more if I could remember them better O_o

Although in the first season of GITS, Motoko Kusanagi's outfit annoyed the hell outta me! She's still one, of if not my favorite, characters in any story I've ever encountered. I feel so connected to her motivations, thought process, and how she interacts with the world.

She's my avatar :borg:

I liked these for different reasons. I think I like dramas.

Ah! My Goddess

I am watching this now. At first I wondered what the fuck I was watching, but the show grew on me.

Gurren Lagann wins for me by a massive margin. Were it not for Jon Stewart, it would easily be my favorite show of all time.
Cowboy Bebop is also an absolutely masterpiece of the genre.

I have not watched much anime, overall. I have seen Deadman Wonderland and Death Note, both of which I liked, although they were certainly quite flawed. I also watched half of Hellsing Ultimate, before I grew tired of it.
I have a list of some stuff to watch, such as Steins;Gate, Gundam Wing 00, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Code Geass, Paranoia, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. My issue is more the length of those shows (well, apart from Paranoia, but that is the bottom of my list); the other shows I watched had the benefit of being short and easy to watch. However, I do feel I have a significant respect for the genre overall considering my substantial love of the two shows I mentioned primarily.
