Apples are better cuz they digest with other foods and process sugar more slowly.

Depends. I like Granny Smith apples, but the occasional perfectly sweet-sour balanced orange is pretty great(usually, in my experience, it's the ones that are wrinkly / look like they soaked up a lot of water in the skin).

Though I prefer mangos and pineapples overall.

It's almost like comparing apples and oranges. Both are spherical, fruits, sweet, seeded, with skins, grow on trees above ground. They can be consumed at lunch with about the same calories. They are the same size, look bright and take roughly the same time to eat. You can juggle them or toss them or squish them and pay about the same for them or use them as analogies . Otherwise they are as different as apples and oranges.

You don't have to wash an orange before you eat it.

Plus, I hate the texture of the apple's skin.

Apples are good for your teeth and mouth hygiene. Orange citric acid is bad.

Apples are probably my favorite taste-wise. They have a lot of flavonoid antioxidants in them, primarily in the peel. Oranges have an amazing amount of phytonutrients, including bioflavonoids like rutin and vitamin C. The thing is, almost all of these nutrients are located in the pith of the orange. So if you don't eat the pith then there aren't actually a lot of nutrients in the orange segments themselves.

I love orange, oranges, orange juice etc. But apples are better because you don't have to deal with a bitch-ass peel (and you can usually count on a certain taste/texture with apples, oranges vary too much).

Apples.

Taste great.
Better texture than oranges.
Apple juice is at least 17.34 times better than orange juice.

Apples are pretty consistent in flavor and texture. Oranges seem to be very coin toss whether it's good or not. When you find a good orange, OH MY GOD! They are so much better than apples.

Yep. A good orange beats a good apple any day of the week. Good orange juice and good apple cider are probably tied. Orange juice from concentrate is pretty awful, whereas apple juice is just meh.

Also, let the record show that anyone getting pulp-free OJ is doing it wrong.

Fructose is good for you, as long as it's not refined and concentrated. Like most foods.

Sure, but consider that most fruits on the market are genetically manipulated.

Here are pictures of some wild bananas:

Yeah, but those are BANANAS. This is what a wild orange looks like:

Looks pretty much the same as what I'm eating.

Plus oranges are the best and only idiots don't like them. FACT.

It may be worth noting that my choice has nothing to do with perceived intelligence and everything to do with my dislike for crispy fruit.

Was my thought after reading the contents of oranges and apples, as I thought that oranges have a little bit better content of vitamins, etc..

Oh absolutely, mostly through simple plant breeding.

I haven't seen any data on this and don't think it's been studied, but I suspect we shoudl be careful in overindulging in modern fruit and grains. They've been developed, and are produced to have so much sugar and energy that I think our systems can't deal with it.

I eat approximately one apple, one orange, two bananas and some blueberries per day. Thats the extent of the fruit sugar I eat, no more.

Right on the money. :)

That's why I prefer apples. They are low in energy whatsoever, and stills hunger. So it's kind of hard to make poison out of them. A neutral entity in an evil world.

Also, isn't five fruits a lot? :/

Not when you don't eat any flours, sugars, refined foods, animal foods, only two meals a day and maybe 90% of what is considered your 'normal' caloric intake. 75% of my diet is vegetables with fruit, nuts, beans, and seeds on the side. Five servings is probably optimal. Our primate relatives eat vegetables and fruit, with some species being fruitarians (we are not fruitarians however).

I use them to sweeten a raw collard smoothie, and apples in a dressing for a raw cabbage salad.

Don't blueberries taste real bad unless they are in sugar? How do you eat them, or do you like them as they are?

I’m allergic to apples. And, blueberries are awesome, but you have to pick out the squishy ones - they have the most flavor.

They sell baskets of blueberries here in New York. They are sweet on their own and we eat them often. I wouldn't dream of putting them in sugar. You may have picked unripened.

I love raspberries. They are selling them at their peak here. They have to be eaten soon after buying unlike blueberries which keep longer.

Blueberries are wonderful. Loads of antioxidants and good crap, low glycemic index and calories. I like them raw but when not in season eat frozen ones in my cereal.

What do you mean by "unripened?"

Raspberries, I used to eat a lot of them until 5 years ago or so. Now I probably ate less than 50 throughout the whole summer.

Doesn't happened too often here. I mean picked too early. They will be hard with a tinge of green I think. If they get overripe, they show wrinkles or softness. Ideally they are firm. Taste one as a test before a whole bunch.

Be careful of sale prices. They can get mooshy ... too soft. Best firm and bright red.

Since we're opening this thread up to other fruits (blueberries and raspberries), I humbly put forward strawberries as the master race of fruit.

Architect. Personal Q. I'm embarrassed to say I eat commercial cereal. Saves time. I try to put bananas, rasberries, peaches, or blueberries with it. How do you handle cereal and do you use milk? Milk does agree with me so I use lots. I did supply some one percent yogurt this morning.

Guys. When we talk strawberries, we may be talking apples and oranges. Strawberries are not always strawberries. My wife loves to buy them but the ones she buys taste like cardboard. The big I assume expensive ones I find at some buffets taste and smell like strawberries and I like them. What's going on? There is another rumor I heard -about the spraying that I don't care to repeat here- but I'm not saying.

Well, you're all wrong. The king of fruits is the ataulfo mango.
