RAMONA QUIMBY, AGE 8.

LOL, I said this was my favourite book in an interview and they gave me weird looks.

As a child, this is my favourite book (and no other has taken its place because I haven't read the ultimate book yet, I guess. This one has sentimental value out the whazoo for me) because I thought Ramona Quimby was JUST LIKE ME.

I couldn't believe it!

For most of my young life, I had to sit through my mother constantly telling me that I am strange, different, and will need therapy one day. I couldn't fit in with anyone.

To find that some famous person in this world could conceive of a character that was so in my likeness and show me that it was okay to be me really, really pulled on my little kiddie heart strings.

So I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience with a character.

Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen, except that I don't walk around naked and am nowhere near as knowledgeable.

Matilda in the Roald Dahl book. It could have been written about me. If I had read it as a child I would have been spooked out.

Don't know about an adult one though.

Serge from Chrono Cross.

I find this funny actually. and you'll know why if you've ever played it.

...Is it the fact that he never says anything, gets sucked into a ridiculously twisted adventure starting a typical day (a la most JRPGs) and/or the fact that SPOILERS BELOW, covered up as best I can:
He basically winds up doing the bad guys' bidding for the extremely vast majority of the game
?

Myself: to stroke my ego I've identified pretty closely with Urza from the Magic: The Gathering books...but that's probably giving myself too much credit. I also identified, as a kid, pretty closely with Squall Leonhart, the main character of FF8.

Yes, very dorky comparisons :)

I know I need to dress exclusively in black (check) in order to say this, but: Prince Hamlet. Frighteningly so, at times. I hope I die as well as he did.

Laura Ingalls from the Little House books when I was little. She was interested in and excited by everything and she didn't like doing girly stuff- she related more to her father than her mom and her sister. Now? The main character in my book!

There's no one character that I completely identify with but I would say that I have a similar personality to Severian from The Book of the New Sun.

The Master, on a bad day, the Doctor on a good one.
And more than a little Kimiko Ross mixed in there too.
That's about 75% of who I am, 5% more comes from the darkest depths of hell.
The remaining 20% consists of my flaws, insecurities and love.

(I used the term hell metaphorically, although considering hell may exist as a metaphysical realm there is the possibility of it actually being valid, by rough technicality)

Edit: The percentages may well be way off, I can't account for anything below the level of direct consciousness.

Mind you, I don't mean the character itself but what he symbolizes for me.

Haku...

I'm not entirely certain if this character is 'just like me' or perhaps someone that I admire and wish to be like. It may be a mixture of both...

There is no character I know of that I can relate to more than him.

There isn't really any character I've found that is just like me, but the closest I've seen is Caden Cotard from Synecdoche, New York.

There aren't any characters I identify with (I really haven't put any thought into it), but a close friend of mine often told me that I remind him of Thora Birch's character in Ghost World and the main character in Dead Like Me. ?? who could say?

i think House is someone i identify with, and Tyler Durden from "Fight Club" is someone that i strive to be like (sometimes having a split personality sounds like more of a blessing then a curse).

Sometimes I feel like William Foster in Falling Down:

Sometimes I feel like Gollum:

But lately, I've felt a bit like Lester Burnham from American Beauty:

How fucking pathetic am I? :(

I often identified with William Foster as well, so there is at least one person who is as "pathetic" as you.

Severus Snape? Ha.
Actually no, I don't completely identify with him. But I do find him fascinating. :)

I usually find elements of myself in at least one character from any given book, but I've never really found someone exactly like me. That I can remember.

I've never identified more with a fictional character more than Robo from Chrono Trigger:

I'm sorry but... I cannot afford to lose anything else... Not my precious memories, or my irreplacable friends.

Silly Robo, you don't have any friends! Look where you're standing!

Ghost World is on my list of movies to watch. I've heard great things about it, and Steve Buscemi is in it!

I think everyone does that. How surreal that Joel Schumacher actually managed to direct a decent movie.
