Well, are you?

I got kind of fat during my deployment to Iraq. I blame the high calorie food designed for soldiers who were actually doing work. I ate about 9 grease laden cookies per day, in addition to my regular meals of beef brisket or cheese sticks.

I'm 5'10" and should weigh about 165 lbs. I was pushing 200 there for a while, so not technically obese, according to the Air Forces body mass index, but definitely overweight. Right now I'm hovering between 170 and 175, but I'm slowly losing the pounds.

I only started losing weight when I started eating more whole plant based foods. In fact right now I'm on a vegan diet as a one year experiment. I don't think being vegan is necessary, but it does help. I miss meat and dairy, but not as much as I thought I would. And I have found some awesome Indian food recipes along the way.

But the number one reason I am losing weight: laziness! Everyone knows INTPs are lazy. So I figured out how to pit my laziness against my gluttonous tendencies. I only buy whole foods. When you are only eating whole foods, you stop buying snacks that are pretty much made from corn, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and dextrose. Instead, when I'm hungry either I eat a raw cucumber, or I cook an entire meal. If I don't want to do either of those I go hungry. Often I get hungry at night, but usually I'm too lazy to make anything that late, so I wait until breakfast. It's really hard to overeat vegetables, and as the saying goes, "If you're not willing to eat broccoli, you're not hungry."

<10% bf, so nope.
Actually got to step in a bod pod <a month back
actually losing weight because of laziness instead of gaining it
I forget to eat, so even though I move like a sloth all day, my energy expenditure vs calorie is pretty much either equal or losing <_< lol.

I'm heavier than I'm used to. I'm 5'10 as well, I can't imagine being nearly 200lbs...that is crazy. I'm currently 77kg /170 lbs.

I say 'used to' because I'm not 'really' overweight (ideally 160-165), but I used to play sports daily, and run or swim every morning. I was 73-74kg and fit. Now I'm 77kg and unfit, which is what bothers me.

I was on prednisone for a year which is a type of steroid. I got up to 300lbs. I'm 6'4" and am now down in the 250 range. I lost most of the weight by eating better (more fiber, veg etc. and little to no processed foods)

I have a big frame so even at 300lbs I looked more like an offensive lineman (american football) who tend to look husky with big bellies and big shoulders and big heads. I won't let any XXL shirt I own go into the dryer because they shrink and feel tight around my shoulders which I can't stand. I was and am still considered overweight by whatever standards but not obese.

What's wrong with broccoli? I prefer broccoli to pizza.

Plus it's great for elevators full of people you don't like

Broccoli is awesome. Exhibit A:

I am 6'0" and I weigh 240lb right now.

I have a large frame so I look more husky then fat. I am also quite naturally muscular. (I don't work out or anything).

I have I am a bit over weight but I am not unhealthy according to the doctors.

I have tried to diet a few times (mostly when I was still trying to date I am married now so I am not worried about it as much). However, even changing my diet and getting active only makes me gain muscle mass and my weight actually goes up but I get in better shape (I am not winded by exercise and stuff). However, my metabolism has keep me between 230 and 275 since I finished growing in high school.

My Ideal body weight is actually 160 but I can't ever imagine being that light. I can bench 160 and I not even in shape right now. I think both of my legs (both with little fat weigh more then 160).

For the question I put Fat not that I believe that I am unhealthy over weight but according to the current wisdom I am indeed Fat.

P.S. I actually have a very healthy diet normally high in fresh vegetables and fruit. My only weakness is processed Meats because it is the only way I eat Meat.

Lets just say I have a relatively very low percentage of body fat comparable to the rest of the country and my muscles tend to pop. Healthy weight.

I'm healthy.

I don't have a six pack or anything but I can jog seven miles without much problem. My BMI, however, indicates I'm slightly overweight at 25.4. This is somewhat puzzling to me given how skinny I am compared to most people at the gym. My bone structure is that of an ectomorph, too. I wear size 31-32 waist, but I weigh 177 lbs at 5'10". It's not like I'm all that muscular either. Weird. Perhaps my perception of myself is skewed. That, or all my jogging has really built up my leg muscles, causing me to gain weight.

Is it just me or is it really difficult to evaluate how the self looks accurately? Even my perception of myself via pictures changes through the years. It's really disconcerting -- to the point that I avoid looking at myself as much as possible. But, then, what is an accurate perception of the self when such a perception is subjective in the first place? Also, many measures, such as the BMI, can be unreliable measures. ugh

5'10", 152 lbs. Rapidly losing strength. Used to bench press 235 at 170 lbs. Ran 6:15 mile (not sure will have to look it up). Now I bench 100 lbs. Mile between 8-9 minutes. Why is that?

6'2" 235, which puts me 35 over, by my estimation. Never been called fat though; the space I occupy is 'well-defended'.

5'10" and anywhere from 170-185 (low end in winter high end in summer).

My job is basically pure exercise.

I have a small layer of fat surrounding my beautiful muscles through the chest and body. Could be because I'm a sensor

No need to work out but I did in high school when I played football and so I certainly know how.

Just barely in the healthy category. I used to have a non readable amount of body fat. But I've gained a bit over the years I'm assuming.

I was 6'3", 190lbs when I was 28. I could eat or do anything and not lose or gain a pound. Fast forward three years, and I'm at 220lbs, and it's become hard as hell to remain thin, despite the fact that I eat a very very healthy diet. What the hell, body?

I'm going to have to start getting exercise here or something.

I used to weigh over 300 lbs but I've recently changed the form of exercise to where it's no longer a chore but is actually very fun and enjoyable now. I like to stay between 225-250 depending on whether I've decided to lose or eat what I want. Of course I like to eat burgers, fries, and pastries so it's important to not go over a certain threshold(245-250), but not so restrictive that I can't enjoy life either:D

5'11" and between 150 and 155. I am very weak. I would say I'm far from healthy for a 25 year old man. 10 push ups kill me. At my peak I was 19 or 20 and about 165 lbs and fairly strong. I didn't eat well so I was starting to get a bit pudgy, but coming from a 140 lb high schooler, any bit of fat was fat to me. I worked out quite regularly when I started college. It's hard to get back into it with constant neck and shoulder pain. Don't forget my year long battle with keeping two of my rib attached to my spine. Those bastards keep finding a way to pop them selves back out every couple months.

Well it's been some time since I've had a chance to post on the forum.

I'm in decent shape: 22 years old 5'7 135 lbs. I can bench 205 lbs once but my run times suck.

@OP, of course you're gonna gain wait munching on MREs in the desert. I have not gotten deployed yet (and most likely won't for at least 3 years) but because of my metabolism I cannot gain wait so I'm not worried about it (I am also AF). I have fluctuated in the 130-140 range for the last 4 or 5 years despite the huge amount of food I eat on a daily basis.

There are two kinds of "getting old." A good place to talk about it would be on Ask BAP. Not sure if starting a new thread would be all that effective.

im 5'11 and weigh 220. I'm a bit soft in the middle but otherwise broad shouldered and pretty solid. My ideal weight is 190 to 200 no matter what a BMI chart says I should weigh.

BMI seems to be such a crock, calculated on smaller populations.

The lowest weight i've ever been at, my family was worried and thought I had cancer... and I was still over my BMI.

BMI is a very rough guideline and doesn't take into consideration that muscle is denser than fat.

Today, people are using the BMI in a way that differs from its original use.

5'7.5" 150 lbs, <10% bf...losing some weight at the moment (simply to keep with the shifting popular body image that is attractive) maintaining bodyfat, couldn't care at all about my body image but it draws in the ISTPs like fucking crazy, they just go "mmm muscle, eat." Yet to connect with a single sensor (even SP bestfriends) on a N level (speak intangible vs tangible, not IQ wise), but god they love their physical secks, so I won't deny them.

You're out of shape or you're just old.

Otherwise try pushups instead. Benching 100lbs at your weight is really bad in general. You should be able to at least bench your weight.

Calisthenics will always be better than lifting weights IMO.

I have a 27" waist.

21 years old; 5'8"; 125 lbs. Since I lost a bunch of weight when I began eating healthier, I look a little scrawny now. I've really got to work out more. Fat really does a lot to fill a guy out.

Anecdotally, I can confirm OP speaks the truth. From my own experience, healthy diet (plant foods; no junk) is significantly more efficient for losing excess fat than exercise; focus your energy on that. In addition to losing weight, getting sick less, needing less sleep, smelling better, looking better, aging slower, having more energy, and feeling better in general, your taste buds adjust in a couple of weeks and then suddenly everything tastes awesome; so don't worry about a bland diet. The main trick is just learning to cook.

You'd be stupid to believe my word alone, though, so read the research. Some good aggregates are "The China Study" and "Eat to Live".

My BMI is 20/21, but it is hard to assess its accuracy because I'm in between a small bone structure and a medium bone structure. The BMI chart is an average, and most likely takes average bone structure into its formulas. I need not worry about excess muscle mass skewing the results. My family tells me I need to eat more because I'm so skinny to them, which is odd because I'm the recommended weight for my size. I tend to keep a stable weight, but gain more in the winter due to the holidays. I'm 5'10" and weigh 138/140 by the end of summer and 145 by the end of winter. I used to weigh a bit more, about 165, which was a couple of years after college. I was borderline overweight according to the BMI chart. I then just stopped eating so much. Taking out added sugar, such as soda, beer, sugar in my coffee, while avoiding fast food and microwave dinners is all it took. My family thought I was had a tapeworm or was really sick. But I became the weight I was in high school and have been quite happy with my weight since. I know to cut back on food when my pants start becoming harder to button. I would much rather cut back on food than spend money on buying new clothes. My cholesterol is pretty good, under 140 last I checked, so that's all I really need to feel I'm taking enough care of myself. I like walking and jogging as well, and that helps to keep me healthy too.

Preach it. I look my best at a BMI of about 22 with desirable bust to waist to hip ratio. If I'm thin enough to reach the mythical BMI of 19 all my curves disappear and I look sickly. Not to mention I feel cold and frail. I'm more muscular though.

It's not that i want to be skinny, or that my aesthetic perception has been brainwashed into accepting anorexic "models" (yeah, think about the word) as the gold standard.
Quite the contrary, i think i like the healthy, balanced+1 type a lot more.
But i have a medical condition that won't allow me to put on weight.
Yeah, i start freezing very fast and in the summer i have hyperhydrosis.
It sucks.

1.93-94ísh and about 65kg, though I might have lost a bit more weight (haven't been eating all that much for the last couple of months). So, ectomorph of, I guess, an unhealthy kind (considering my height, I should probably weigh something closer to 90kg). Putting on weight, however, is near close to impossible for me. Eating 1 time a day, or 3 times doesn't seem to matter all that much. But I don't care. I'm fine with how it is. I look thin, but not sickly thin. At least to my judgement.

That does sound on the low side. Though only you can say what makes you comfy. I generally prefer to eat less, but of higher quality, and food with more cleanly defined flavors.

My BMI fluctuates between 21 and 22. Been like that for as long as I have memories. How I eat doesn't seem to matter much. If I eat little. Say one meal a day for a week. I become cold. If I eat a lot. I become hot. Seems my body is like a furnace. It is constant. Depending on the amount of wood that is put in, decides how hot it gets.

When it's cold, the most important thing I need to remember to keep from freezing is to eat regularly. I can freeze in the middle of the summer if I have not eaten adequately. Similarly. If it's hot, I can feel more chilled by eating less.
