This is a very diverse forum, I've noticed that we're all sorts of ages. Some people have raised concerns with the inevitability of younger crowd forming, but I really don't see it as a problem. I'm for instance 22, but I've read the writing of INTPs from the ages of 14-50 and related with all their trains of thought. This kind of brings me to the conclusion that INTPs are naturally great thinkers even at a young age. I remember being a youthful (immature) junior high kid on yahoo pool chat rooms, trying to outsmart everyone (and usually succeeding ;)).
But I digress, we INTPs all have amazing abilities in thought, observation, and reflection. I think this is what creates our unique atmosphere here at INTPforum, and we shouldn't worry about a younger generation discovering this thoughtful oasis. We all have something to add, and I truly enjoy the level plain of intelligence that grounds this place. I welcome all of your insights.
If you want, list your age on this thread. I'm wondering how diverse we really are.

There is likely some truth to what you are saying. That said, I'm 26 just 4 years older than you and I personally feel somewhat more enlightened in the last few years. I suspect my feelings are probably normal.

I am 17 years old, so I suppose that puts me into the "younger" category. Please don't hold this against me.

I understand the prejudice that some of the "older" members may have against those under a certain age, but there are certain cases where it is unfounded. I think this forum is going to be one of those cases due to the type of people that should be frequenting it.

Not to mention there are always those who are "older" and act worse than the 13 year olds!

Please do not take my bluntness as an attack, I have had nothing but a warm reception thus far on this forum. =]

This has been a very young forum since the early days.

I suspect that teens make up the largest group, followed by twenty-somethings. Beyond that we're fairly thin on the ground.

Buried somewhere on the forum are comments about how users here of all ages relate with well matched intelligence and respect. It seems INTP wisdom doesn't care for biological age.

Indeed I mostly forget any differences in age, unless saying something in jest.

Wouldn't it be weird that INTP's are usually young? On the forum I can imagine seeing more young people than older people. Internet is pretty young itself (it being widely accepted and used in modern civilizations.)

For the curious: I'm 34

I'm 24.
But as for the age, for me at least, it doesn't matter. I'm more interested in what people have to say about something, than being prejudice towards any particular age.

I'm 16, but I've found that I can usually tell the voices of teens from the US apart from the other people.

Most notably I placed Severus, Chimera, and ScienceLady before reading their intro posts...

Maybe a side effect pf public education in the US?

I am old (40), and may I make the observation that many of the older people, myself included, act less mature then the less mature here. As for making fun of age, I reserve the right to make fun of my age any time I like. Wait, that didn't come out right,.....oh well.

However I've played MMOs in some form or another since I was like 14. There were plenty of times in those 4 years since when I started where I've been put into baby sit this 20+ year old so he doesn't do something.

Mid twenties.

We should keep in mind that there are many reasons why teens and young adults would be encountered in greater numbers than the middle-aged on a forum like this one.

Yes, like the fact that I was 18 years old before my family got their first p.c., which was, of course, too slow for an internet that did not exist at that time. And car phones were considered cool, but were financially unobtainable when I was around that age.

What do you think the specific characteristics are? Well, it seems the teens here from other countries are more aware of everything, but what did you have in mind?

Shouldn't this be a poll? That way it'd be easier to track the results based on the regular users...

I'm 30. Age doesn't matter much to me now that I am an adult, although I must admit a slight bias against people in my own age range just because I have had so many traumatic experiences involving my peers. I seem to relate best to people who are much older or much younger. I felt like an adult somewhere around my mid twenties, but I'm an INFP. INTPs are adults almost from the time they are born. I don't think it should affect the interactions here. Some INTPs may have a childlike side, but that is a constant, even when they age. They tend to achieve intellectual maturity early in life regardless of the social immaturity that can persist long into adulthood and old age.

Though I feel like a 4 year old compared to some extremely intelligent and thoughtful posters here...

Seriously, I look up to/envy some of you people... Makes me think I have a lot of maturing/learning to do myself.

I'm both the oldest and youngest here.

Oldest in terms of calanders I've had to throw away(41) and youngest in terms of maturity. I think the older we INTPs get, the sillier we get. I can think of reasons why this might be so.

Anyways, I enjoy the words of wisdom from everyone here but I really do wish you whippersnappers would get the hell off my lawn.

Im 19, so far the average age is 23.6

I think it is an INTP trait to judge people based on intellect and ideas then more conventional stuff.

I'm 16, but conversations with adults tend to be a hell of a lot more interesting anyway. My dad's an INTP and he used to wake me up by playing Queen full bull on the stereo and dancing around till I came out of my room :D.

Yes I agree with I.B. I do think INTP's get sillier as we age. I can't speak for everyone else, but in my case, it's because age has somehow caused me not to care so much about my personal dignity.

Now, if this is the case with all maturing INTP's, that would mean that NoI (who is about 34 or something) is "maturing" at a faster rate then any of us. OH THE HUMANITIES!!!! Gasp!!

i'm 23.

i would have to say that INTP's get sillier with age, too. when i was younger, i was always very serious and cynical about everything. i had to question why anything was funny, and i had to always say the most pessimistic thing in any group.

thats still the same, but now i make it sound cheeky and fun.

I have experienced a similar "maturing" process to A.I. Perhaps this could be put into some kind of poll. Perhaps there is some sort of correlation between age and silliness in INTP's. I'm actually serious about this by the way. It would be interesting to see the results.

Same here, I'm usually the one to get critical and matter-of-fact about the topic at hand when talking to friends even though it's not supposed to be (like casual games). And then they go "Omg, can't you relax and have fun once in a while?"

I'm 17 btw. :)

I think many of us INTPs get sillier with age because after spending our adolescence and early udulthood seeking understanding and enlightenment or some such, many of us find the endevour to be ultimately futile. We either become jaded or we go batshit insane.

Man, I really have to avoid the temptation to be really really silly and turn this thread into a bullshit thread. Oh the things I am holding back right now.

I.b.I agree, I seem to have experienced some of this ultimate futility in the endeavor to find understanding and enlightenment in everything. I still look for it, that is unavoidable, just not in everything, and if I don't find it right away in the more limited things I am examining, I am more patient. For everything else I sort of go with the flow and make jokes about it. It is a great way to stay sane .......I think.

In regards to my earlier post, I don't think it's the content of what they're saying, just something about how they say it. Not very specific am I?...

Perhaps what you mean to say, Wisp, is that what they're actually saying isn't what tips you off, but their manner of saying it. It's like in real life how people actually pay more attention to tone of voice, body language, and turn of phrase than to what people actually say.

However, since there is no body language or tone of voice (save for the wonders of italics and bold) when people post in a forum, we rely mostly on their choice of words to understand them better. The speech patterns of teenagers are fairly similar across the board, plus the fact that we're teenagers ourselves probably helps us identify our peers by their speech patterns.

There are some here I guessed to be younger (teen) even though they are atypical teens as all INTPs are. I can basically tell by their interests and their knowledge of certain things. For instance, someone who likes Anime? Probably not over 35. At my age, Anime is just some fancy-ass word for cartoon.

If like people wrote like the way they like, spoke, then you know like, what age they group they like, might be from. Like, it's way easy to guess that like, they would like technology, but like, they kinda have to like, talk about it first, you know.

Of course I could be wrong about this, I don't know how many INTP teens over use the words like and you know. Those words are space fillers, they are used to fill in time so the brain can catch up. It has been said, but is unsubstantiated, that thinking types are more likely to pause without a word to fill in that time space. From what I have read and seen on t.v. the over use of the words "like" and "you know" is more common in the young. They tell people to not use them at work or in job interviews because it may make you appear immature.

I like Anime and I'm 17. D:
I choose to go for anime with more plot and character development than eye candy and what's popular though.
