Now this is I think a grate subject regarding everyone's life. The models we choose to guide us. The reason I opened this thread is to tell me some persoanlities, or fictional characters that you think " he/she has it all done" Please don't give me answers like " my acquaitance" and don't even bother to give examples like einstein or darwin or who knows what because these guys, they theach us how to thimk, how to see the world rather than how to live.

The first guy that comes to my mind is definetly Tyler Durden ( Fight Club). Now " he has it all done"... he is a bit exagerate and yet one of the most accurate example on how a modern man should see the world. Away from consumersim, from advertising, from the fear of insecurity or the fear of what others may think. TYler durden is almost a cult. If you haven't see the movie, DO IT and even if you'll have already understood the important quotes, still google the explanation for them.

Now tell who is you main model in life and why "he/she has it all done"

Hi Gusteru1
Please don't give me answers like " my acquaitance" and don't even bother to give examples like einstein or darwin or who knows what because these guys, they theach us how to thimk, how to see the world rather than how to live.
When I was of age where I sought role models, what did I know about living? Answer: zero. I admired Einstein because I thought thinking as he did, physics-wise WAS about how I would have liked to live. So does that make me outside of your request?

In any case, welcome to this forum.

I... never really had one. Still don't, really. I always disagreed with everyone. This isn't to say I never respected or appreciated anyone, just that I never really had one of those "I wanna be just like ______" moments.
welcome to this forum.
Ditto.

I never had one either, and don't really get it. It was always awkward coming up with something to talk about when it was required in formal capacity (i.e. school assignments)

I constantly idolize people. It's one of my more childish traits and a bad habit that most likely stems from low self-esteem. Kurt Cobain, Captain Jack Sparrow, Simone de Beauvoirs, Jean Paul Sartre, Leonardo DaVinci, Emily Dickinson, Emma Peel, Yolandi Visser, Oscar Wilde...At least I grew out of trying to emulate them all when I was about 14...I generally start idolizing people because I identify with a trait they have.

I've never had a role model. I'm pretty sure I once had to write a paper about one. I don't remember how that turned out.

Although I've always thought Snake Plissken was pretty cool.

I don't have a model but many. With many older relatives I studied the things they did right and wrong so as to learn from them. For examples ...

From my Dad I learned not to get too wrapped up in your job. If it gets gut wrenching then move on.

From my sister I learned to take care of my health for when I get older.

From my brother I learned many things having to do with engineering, career and the like.

From an Uncle I learned the danger of 'just having a career'

From many retiring relatives I learned to save for retirement first, before anything else other than necessary bills.

etc ...

I dislike the idea of holding a single person to be a role model. Everybody should learn from everyone, whether it's from their mistakes or their triumphs. To place a single person on a pedestal is to not only consider their experiences as more significant than anybody else's, but it also tends to discount their flaws as irrelevant or less significant than they actually are.

Vodka. It's something some people hate, some people love, smart people fear, with more than most loving it than hating it. When you're around it, it makes everything better. It makes you do things you otherwise wouldn't, mostly with great results, but occasionally leaves you embarrassed or in a court of law. It's more famous than any living person, has helped more people get laid than Hitch, is one of the only things that truly got inside a womans head, and will inspire and affect the entire world for many more thousands of years.

Yeah. :p

Nope, I didn't have any role-models either. I just observed the stuff around me and made my conclusions based on how situations were handled by people or how they simply transpired by laws of nature. I don't have heroes and I don't see myself as one either. I'm simply an observer.

Hannibal Lector, because he's cultured.

Batou from GitS, because he's a philosopher but he's not the sort to sit around talking about it, for him philosophy is right here, right now, he's a practicing philosopher.

Megatron, say what you will about his ethics, he's an inspirational leader who doesn't order anybody to do what he himself would not, nor does he discourage ruthless ambition in his subordinates, he leads by shamelessly ruthless/ambitious example and expects people to try and backstab him, I admire the integrity of that.

Am I allowed to pick a role model of the opposite gender?

If so I'd go for Becky Bloomwood of the Shopaholic series. She screws up everything but still ends up lucky at the end of it all.

That was a particularly cultured statement. Understanding, and accepting of role models form separate, disparate sources.

But I cant take a guy who looks up at Megatron seriously. I mean, really. Megatron. Fake cartoon character created to fail, created to be a loser, created to be the embodiment of everything bad for a young 1980s audience, complete with gutteral voice, in multiple recent movies no less...and thats where you go for inspiration? Because he expects people to be crap? Plus the shlipshlipshlip guy in the mask?

Wow, man. Bigtime prescription for crazy pills being swallowed by this one :storks:

Never had to think about it for a long time. By around 18 I invented my own alter ego which I strived towards. called Sorlaize. Oh yeah.

Whereas now I look up at certain people more than wanting to admire general achievement or something.. I like George Carlin, Bukowski, Nietzsche.. it's hard to say though. But by no means do even *all* of those people fill the space where I look up to and want to explore in life. Ultimately I have myself for that, I am responsible for that. Nobody writes good sci fi or horror anymore.

Although I've always thought Snake Plissken was pretty cool.
Snake from Metal Gear Solid, maybe, for me (who was named after that snake)

Cloud from FF7

but I never read/watched much, it's more like I identified.

It's been important to prioritize who exactly I look up to. To be very selective. Can't stress that enough. People who aspire to be CEOs aren't getting everything out of life, period, and I was careful I wasn't going to make that mistake with my life, which is all I have.

Yeah. :p

I nearly choked on my peanutbutter sandwich. I love you.:applause:

If there were any vice I would afford myself to have, vodka it would be. Doesn't leave a girl looking sloppy drunk, looks festive, sleek, & sophisticated in a martini glass, doesn't create a hangover like brown liquors. Unfortunately, I am too responsible.

As to the OP, my grandmother, who was anything but grandmotherly. She ran a male dominated business, was a motor head, fabulous historian, and very random. And she knew how everything worked, very mechanical. She was 'know the rule so it can be avoided' kind of person. And her sister, who flew.

I also experienced a great impact when a lit teacher gave me B+. I knew my work surpassed my classmates so I asked why I hadn't gotten A, for A work. She responded by asking me "Yes, but was that A work for you?". It really drove in the point. Her son, my classmate, is now nationally known coach. His point is always excellence - doing the best possible. After his mom had passed he was at our class reunion with people swarming all over him. He and I have always gotten along quite well, when he broke away to come talk to me I shared the story about his mom. He enjoyed it as it was so her.

And the childrens book 'I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can', big impact on my outlook/personal belief systems I think.

I hate negative thinkers. I think they should be beaten to death. :D

I'd like to add that good quality vodka offers the ability to tip the balance of a 'No' to a 'Why not?'. It goes nicely with high heels, blue jeans, or flip flops.

Really, it's the just ultimate neutral.
