Yes, the huge wave of stereotypes portray an absolute lack of time discipline, the stereotypes make us out to be 'night owls'. I've also read that the majority of us prefer evenings / nighttimes to persue our intellectual challenges.
But what isn't clear, is how many of you suffer from being unable to get to sleep without any kind of medication?
It's just, I can lay in bed for HOURS after settling in, I can be very comfortable and content, yet I'm just completely unable to switch my mind off. It's almost like I spend the first 12 hours of the day with this foggy layer over my periphery, without the assistance of stimulants I am an incredibly lazy and under-performing colleague, fortunately I don't really have official 'working hours', I essentially come as I pllease most of the time, which helps regarding my sleeping problems.
I've done extensive reading on the subject. Apart from being surprised at how little we still know about sleep. it was amazing how many 'techniques' and 'advice articles' I came accross but even then, not of them work. Things like:
- Focusing on your breath. Clearing ideas out of your mind to the best of your abilities.
- Choosing a huge number, like 648, then detracting 3 from that number over and over in my min; 648, 645, 642 etc etc. This actually worked, a little.
- Tried using no electronics for at least an hour before bed.
- Properly dehydrated, no tea/coffe consumed for the hours prior to bed.
- No high energy foods consumed before bed.
The only thing that gets me to sleep is either Diazepam or Zopiclone. I just worry that this will be a long term issue for me and drugs like these aren't meant to be taken long term.
I'm hoping that I'm not alone here, and if you have found methods of switching Ti off whilst in bed then I am MORE than happy to listen and try.
