I'm relatively new here, but have found this forum to be most entertaining and interesting.

I have particularly enjoyed playing the arcade and competing for high scores. However, after visiting INTP Central's arcade, I suddenly realized that, in comparison, ours has very few games to choose from and the ones we do have are far less contemporary.

So I was wondering if it would be possible to integrate some additional fun games into our arcade. I would be willing to help in the process, if the need be.

My personal favorites are the breakout-style games. INTP central has a very cool one (except that it fails to lock the mouse in the screen, so you lose control of the paddle as soon as the mouse leaves the playing area - which seems to be a common programming error among free breakout games).

Additionally, our arcade seems to randomly erase people's high scores sometimes. Maybe it's time based or something, I'm not sure. But I do know that it can be rather disappointing when one has spent time and effort to achieve the number one score in a game, only to have it erased with no record.

I admit that it's a little low on the list of priorities just now... but if you can hold out till after we do a software upgrade, that would be a better time to look at it.

Yes, I can understand that it would be low on the priority list. But I'm willing to take care of it myself, then you wouldn't have to worry about a thing. What do you say?

I was trying to beat Sapphire Harps score on astroids but it got deleted and I am pretty sure she just left one astroid and kept shooting the Flying Saucers.

I usally play http://www.isc.ro/ scrabble online, or Chess, and my SUPER FUNPACKED VIDEO GAMES ON STEAM!

LOL. I tried that strategy with Asteroids but the smaller flying saucers kept shooting me down.

*FAIL*

Wow, I've totally been slandered! :p

Any sufficiently advanced skill is indistinguishable from cheating.
-Arthur C. Clarke

You're pretty sure that's my strategy, you say? I invite you to try it... Personally, I think one lil' flying saucer is more dangerous than a score of asteroids...

Really, I find it's just a matter of getting into the zen spot and then you can play forever... imagining you had the time for it. ;)

I noticed that it's not just high scores disappearing... all kinds of scores are vanishing. Except for the best scores of all time on the main page of the arcade. That's where my score's legacy remains...

Asteroids - 127,050

But, really... I agree with LoR... There has hardly been any interest shown in the arcade by the majority of the forum - so there's really no reason to for the staff to spend their time on it... Granted, the arcade may be neglected because it's old and has problems, but I'm not inclined to think that's the cause...

Yes, I loath the little flying saucers. Little bastards!

Now, go take a look at the arcade on INTP central. It has lots of games to choose from and stays reasonably busy.

If the staff doesn't want to spend time on it, I volunteer my own time and expertise to update it. Even if a select few benefit from my efforts, it's still totally worth it and the staff loses nothing. Come on, staff!!

Why do they forum administrators ignore this? My request is perfectly logical, will be beneficial to the forum, and will only take a moment of their time.

ah.. yes... nobody is right. Takes more than a moment of time...

We are planning a complete upgrade. It seems rather pointless to tinker now with something that will hopefully be replaced entirely in the coming weeks...

It would only take a moment of your time to give me the capability to do the upgrade and I would get it done now, not in an indeterminate amount of weeks.

Oh god.

Listen, if you honestly think you're getting staff priorities simply because you want to change a largely unimportant part of the forum - to satisfy yourself, then you must be on some good crack.

As we would say in Belfast

'WIND YER' NECK IN!'

How one does this is beyond me...

How irresponsible would it be to give someone who has 60 posts and joined sometime last month admin status just because they insisted on it?

Well, I must say, the response I finally got on this is rather amusing. If I was a sensitive person, I might be offended by the open hostility. But I'm not. Hostility makes my life interesting. Especially when it is entirely unwarranted and unnecessary :)

It is also ironic that many, many people have PAID me to work on their sites over the years, not having known me in the least, much less having possibly read 60 or so of my inner most thoughts (and sarcastic jokes).

And the best part of this whole thing is that the paranoia with which some of you seem to guard this site is, in a certain sense, unfounded in this case, since I possess the skills to hack the site and, if I had wanted to, I would already have done so.

Though I personally am remaining neutral on the subject, one could also argue that this is not the greatest welcome one could give to a new member. Especially one who has generously offered up their professional services at no charge and for no other reason than to improve the site, even if that improvement would be insignificant to some users. On the other hand, any given member may just have masochistic tendencies, in which case this may be closer to the ideal welcome that member could be given.

Of course, in my case, whether or not I have masochistic tendencies is debatable and I don't particularly care whether I get a nice welcome or not. I'm just saying, one could make the arguement...

I think the majority had reasonable arguments.

It's a huge difference between paying someone who can be held accountable when things don't work out and a random stranger with a very low posting count whose only commendation is his own word.

And the best part of this whole thing is that the paranoia with which some of you seem to guard this site is, in a certain sense, unfounded in this case, since I possess the skills to hack the site and, if I had wanted to, I would already have done so.

Impressive, that is probably the worst argument to build up trust I've ever heard in my entire life.

You never mentioned before that you are a professional.
It is simply a matter of common sense that you don't give strangers the key to your house. I am not sure in what kind of cloud-cuckoo-land you reside.

Of course, in my case, whether or not I have masochistic tendencies is debatable and I don't particularly care whether I get a nice welcome or not. I'm just saying, one could make the arguement...

The arcade has a very low priority on our list for improvements and other updates are far more important at the moment. When we are done with those we will look for an extension of the arcade section for which we do not need external help.

If you want to play arcade games so desperately I recommend you the search engine Google which can be found under www.google.com where you can actively look for them and you will find dozens and dozens of sites dedicated to arcade games, far superior to our own humble selection.

I was going to do a large response to this, as well... but Anthile covered most things.

Arcus, I know you mean well - but your approach... you presented yourself very, very poorly and recklessly... From what you had said previously, it would have been incredibly unwise and irresponsible for the admins to give you staff access, however temporary...

Your last post (specifically intention and credentials) can only be viewed in light of the earlier impression that was received...

* * * * *

(There I go, speaking on behalf of the staff without even asking 'em... I hope I read your minds fairly well... Or at least the situations.)
