Anyone who thinks Moffat, the writer of Dr Who, is racist should examine themselves for potential 'misandry'.

Wow, there are a few here!

...looking for more voting poles....

Is this common? Sure are a lot who agree on the internet that he is sexist? Seems his only crime here is being man.

Opinions?

*************

Why am I bringing this up...? Well I was reading reviews before attempting to buy an episode in Season 8 and some reviews were talking about his improvement from his misogynistic writing... I was dumbfounded as to what anti-female writng they were talking about. Most of the females were strong women and men support characters were pathetic idiots except the hero of the show but how can that be helped?

According to the most dogmatic of leftist thought, all depictions of old-fashioned or present life are wrong by definition, unless it is the life of people of color, in which case it is by definition Christlike.

Guess im not watching it anyways. The first episode is being sold for 5.99 on amazon instant video and the episodes after that are 1.99. Their genius sales department successfully deterred me before I watched it. Had it been the last episode I may have grudgingly paid the 6 dollars since I already watched the rest. Maybe they'll get smart and drop the price eventually or do a promotion to get more sales but until then I don't plan to reward 'stupid business' even if the episode is a 'little longer'.

Our society is by definition racist because of its inequalities. All white people, and some people of color, are inevitably agents of white supremacy, and only those offering unflinching criticism of society are authentic voices against racism. If all white people are inevitably racist, then it is inevitably racist for them to criticize irrationality on the part of certain social critics. People of color who oppose the vanguard of criticism are also inevitably opposing the vanguard for fear of losing their status in the structure of white supremacy. It sounds crazy when I type it out, but it is really what underpins the most extreme of progressive thought. They will not give up until Western Civilization is vitiated of all of its accomplishments.

his doctor who scripts contain male chauvinism of a sort that's neither faithful to human spirit nor entertaining nor anchored in the specifics of its male hero narrative (which is about masculinity in a way more abstract sense). sex sells though, and clearly some allusions to sex can be inserted into that show without spoiling the overall mood entirely.

doctor says claire's butt is "ok", implying it bothers him, evoking both pure innocent boyishness of the doctor and female otherness of claire. the male viewer is compelled to correct the doctor's bizarre alien preferences thus fortifying his own curve appetite, fetishizing femininity as other. objectification is both derogatory and the opposite: reverent.

i'm not sure if it's sex-ism but it's about sex in a tangible sense when it doesn't have to be. it can feel cheap but it's too odd to be a calculated move or an instance of any known self-regulation of the market. in other words, it reflects some weird shit going on in moffat himself. but again it's not clear-cut sexism as in "discrimination".

so my verdict is: steven moffat _is_ something, but it's not quite sexist that he is. not decidedly. might be.

now i'll read the link

I really don't see any sexist writing in modern Doctor Who seasons. Moffat may have thrown his own interpretation of the Doctor's (and everyone's) sexuality into the episodes, but there's little that could offend the general population.

The only moment in the show that (I think) could ruffle feathers could be the one about the angels back in time in New York when River explains that the Doctor can't be confronted for hurting her with his carelessness. I can see that upsetting more sensitive people in a condoning-abusive-behavior-toward-women way. But I think you were supposed to question the Doctor in that moment, not praise him.

Next we must criticize Moffat for making habitual gay jokes about Sherlock and Watson in his other series. Because of course it can't be amusing.

It's okay, nothing bad at all, plenty of good female characters, slight sexualisation but it's not like the characters are entirely built around it either, and the male characters are sometimes sexualised too so whatever. People like romance and tension. I can see how irene Adler's downfall due to a shit pun about her crush would piss some people off but she's also a pretty good character, none of them are weak or entirely objectivised, they have definite individual strong traits besides being hot. I don't mind sexiness :D

It's normal for all female characters to be less powerful than the doctor, just as all other male characters are less powerful than the doctor. Same kind of thing for sherlock.

I confess that I would really enjoy a female regeneration of the doctor, but it might seem a bit odd after 13 white male regenerations :o

To be honest this season was shit and Moffat should be shot or at least sacked from doctor who, it's a waste of capaldi as the doctor because of terrible story construction. He can keep doing sherlock.( I advise you not to buy season 8.)
