Should we be concerned about the nuclear disaster in Japan?

Are we all going to die? What is going to happen? Please give your opinions.

I have so little information about this, and my father just keeps telling me we're all going to die of cancer in a few years now... Which seems rather dramatic, but who knows? I have no clue of how bad this is going to be to the whole world in the coming years. I suppose Japan will be declared inhabitable in a while...
I find it very foolish that instead of just finding a way to stop the radiation from spreading, they started freaking spraying water on it, which basically made everything worse because now the radiation will go into the soil of that area and it'll probably flow all into the sea easier...

We didn't all die of cancer after Chernobyl, which was an order of magnitude or two worse.

If they didn't spray water onto them, there would have been the risk of nuclear material being released directly into the environment. This sort of contamination would be long lasting and affect a wide area.
The water is only slightly contaminated. If any contaminated water is released, it will either remain in the locality of the reactor, or be dispersed to negligible levels.
