As a child, I could see myself as an INTP. That's why on every test I've taken it's shown up as that, because I think about who I was - not who I am now.

I'm in College and I've thrived. I've only been there a week but I can see change. I'm becoming an ENTP, which is clearly possible. I can relate to a lot of the stuff here, but the long-windedness of everything is boring and not like me at all. I'm more brief and to the point.

INTP -> ENTP. Wow, one letter makes a difference.

Then that means you never were an INTP. ENTPs are close cousins so its easy to make that mistake. What makes it more difficult is that they have the same functions, just with different strength. So ... you Ne primarily and Ti secondarily?

Getting bored with our long winded analysis is a good indicator.

Could be. To be honest I see it in your writing a lot, way more than me. Would also explain my forever enjoyment of watching teachers lose an arguement to me :)

But I've always been very introvert up until now? I've always been a daydreamer since I was young. I was a textbook ITP as a kid?

Sorry, what exactly do you see in my writing?

Everybody is an introvert, as is everybody is an extrovert. The difference is whether they are in your dominant, secondary or inferior (where it is in your stack). The danger in looking at the isolated letters (a crime that Please Understand Me started) is that you get these confusions. If you understand it from the functional view there aren't these problems.

Yes and no. In this case the functions are the same but the second and first functions flip and the third and fourth functions flip going from ENTP to INTP or vice versa. That's not really a sea change compared to INTJ and INTP in terms of cognitive functions. Anyway, you were always an ENTP temperament. In the sense that you've cleared some impediments, perhaps, you have changed.

In what way are you becoming ENTP? If it's just a matter of becoming more outgoing, you may want to be careful. Many INTPs seem to become more confident around college age, which directly impacts their willingness to interact with others.

Remember that your type is just your "base stats". Life will cause you to change, and that might include becoming more extroverted. Behavioral modifications happen naturally, and people of the same type don't always behave the same way. That would be boring. :)

Completely true. You are a product of your environment.

Maybe you are just a very extroverted introvert?

I just took an online test and it said I was 40% extrovert and 60% introvert. Technically I'm still an introvert but it is close.

OK, I understand myself now. I'm not an INTP. Very close, but no go. I'm an ENTP, yes, most likely have been my entire life. The MBTI has uncovered a behemoth amount of other things about me though. I score 28 on this ADD/ADHD test. Something XNTPs often do. The explanation to my superior knowledge in Computing (if you didn't know I have) lies with twice exceptionality, or 2e. To be certain, I'll make sure I see my Doctor. But for now, this is what I am settled on.

The funny thing with these types is that if you are using it to understand yourself than it helps to know what you believe or think or define or have decided that introversion and extroversion is. Then someone can give you an adequate answer that reflects your understanding so that you may improve knowledge about yourself, rather than have someone contradict it, which won't augment or further your search of knowledge or search to understand, but block it.

Then that means you never were an INTP.

And please ignore Architect. He has some of the most narrow-minded views on Jungian typology. This is simply not an absolute truth. And even if it was, no one has proved such an idea absolutely.
It's just a belief about 16 types happening to be archetypal for all people, which many who have a greater knowledge of types than Architect has evinced based on his posts can attest to as false.

When one has difficulty determining type, what is behind the difficulty? It's been said, "energizing over draining." But this is not so simple. Over what time? A draining thing can be energizing short-term. Enjoyment? Reluctance? Time seems to be a big factor. It's like saying what is your favorite movie? There are things to be said for this and that. What could help determine?
