On the flip side there is a report of two (possibly false) suicides, and pleas from some cases where the infidelity was approved by the partner (supposedly one person has a terminally ill spouse who supports the other in having an affair).

While it's delicious hackery, why the fuck should we feel good about giving in to telling others how to conduct their love lives?

I do admit to laughing about how millions of men were basically paying a lot of money to get fucked... just not in the way they expected. The data shows only about 1000-10,000 actual women participating at some level.

But yes, there are various scenarios resulting in tar-and-feathering members who weren't necessarily there for cheating (such as what Architect mentions) -- and since there was no e-mail validation on the accounts, anyone could sign up anyone else just as a joke, etc.

Sinny, seeing how much research you've invested in 9/11 and British molesters and other topics, you shouldn't have any difficulty spending three minutes to Google "Ashley Madison" and figuring out what it is. It's all pretty basic and a dominant story in the last two weeks in the US media.

I don't care if people are cheating on each other. I assume most marriages are miserable, and people will go on acting like people.

I just think it's funny that after all this drama, and all this supposed infidelity, the site was largely an expensive man-on-bot sausage fest.

Edit: At this point, statistically speaking, the vast majority of users couldn't be accused of anything more than sexting by themsleves.

I've read that some gays from places where they're persecuted used it to hook up because the site advertised itself as secure. It sucks for them, but people really shouldn't put their head on the line for the sake of online hookups. All those people who used their official email to register...never heard of hotmail? Seriously people.

The asshole company charged people to remove their data and then it didn't. I hope people will sue the pants off of them.

Ashley Madison degrades our society, and then it doesn't even have the decency to keep their mess confined. Sue them for all they have.

Well, I guess you're looking at either total abstinence or online hookup in the middle-east countries... but that's a hell of a game to run.

All those people who used their official email to register...never heard of hotmail? Seriously people.

I was just reading about an ongoing case in Pennsylvania (USA), where the court has now officially released a lot of the coarse pornographic e-mails sent by male staff working on the Sandusky child abuse case a few years ago (involving Penn state). These are the INVESTIGATORS.... and they're sending each other graphic/sexist/porn crap in their e-mails.

Vying for a new level of Stupid, I guess.

yeah, regardless of someone's moral view of adultery, the company was actually ripping people off -- charging them for a service they weren't actually providing ($20 a pop, at least).

The whole company seems to be more a "prey on the desperate" crowd than a legitimate business, when you look at the actual demographics, what was and wasn't being provided, what was lied about, etc.

Where's Cog? I think I just found my new start-up idea.

The Ashley Madison hack is funny because it just confirms most people don't know what they want. They marry people they don't like yet settle for and have jobs they can't quit because they are stuck.

It hurts so bad you have to laugh. And the whole world is laughing at America, as usual.
