Yes, Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) is a bonafide genius.

It would be hard to say which of his works are my favorite, as it largely depends on my mood at any given time, but...

Some of my favorite tracks:

1. "We Are The Music Makers" (for the Willy Wonka reference, of course. :D ) from Selected Ambient Works 85-92

2. "Track #1" from Selected Ambient Works, Vol II. - so creepy, and yet so delightful! :D

3. "54 Cymru Beats" from Drukqs (plus "Lornaderek", the creepy Happy Birthday message from his weird, old parents, with the wraspy laughing and the thick British accents. Makes me think of a scene in some lost Stanley Kubrick film.)

4. Pretty much the whole Richard D. James Album, especially "Cornish Acid" and "Beetles".

5. pretty much the whole I Care Because You Do album, especially "Ventolin" and "Come on You Slags!"

6. Pretty much all of Classics

7. "Windowlicker", of course

8. "Come To Daddy", of course

9. "Polygon Window" from Surfing on Sine Waves.

10. "Donkey Rhubarb"

Plus, his videos are amazing - especially the ones directed by Chris Cunningham

I'd also highly recommend Venetian Snares for fans of Aphex Twin, BTW.

Venetian Snares is one of the few artists that somewhat resemble Aphex Twin, like Autechre, Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, Access to Arasaka, Clark, Senking, Boards of Canada and Richard Devine. Although AT is one of a kind and a pioneer shiz. The tracks he's named after viruses are all pure neatness. :ahh:

Come to Daddy is a good track and a decent EP but this was always my favourite track from it:

Green Calx is good, love that acid-like riff. Hell, most of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 is brilliant.

How about we settle with a medium eg, experimental Infected Mushroom or noise-ish progressive trance? Don't want to lose that pristine fucked up alien music feel, you see, cause this thread is so cult it hurts :smoker:

Btw, goa is good when under the influence of some kind of substance, but it is monotone when you're sober and fidgeting your fingers while alone on your computer.

lunacy calling pleiadians repetitive in comparison to aphex twin's overcooked spaghetti mush.

goa is overtly druggy. that means it's bold and honest, not that its appreciation requires inebriation. just open your ears to rhythm and melody and stop looking for associative cues. enter the void.

The poll seems conclusive.
I used to like him, but haven't listened forever.

Thank Christ for some AFX appreciation. Any of the early albums (Ambient works 1 and 2, Richard D James too) and Drukqs are my favourites. The piano pieces on Drukqs are brilliant: Avril 14 and Nanou 2.
