I like it. Has kind of a later years of Buckethead vibe. Also some Russian Circles.

You got more?

The bass should be more prominent, imho. It also sounds a little too granular, to the point where it starts to sound like white noise in some areas. Gets repetitive at the 2:45 mark on the first listen, which probably doesn't bode well.

That's really all I've got though. Sounds good.

What did you record this with?

I know you you're from that vocalist forum. Then we are 3 people from there now. No 4 actually counting BadassEverthing.

Edit: Okay the song was really good, what are the cord sequences? I like the way the guitars work together.. the little melodies they play all have personalities of their own, the result is quite vibrant.

Only thing I thought was "meh" was that heavily distorted guitar which came in at 0:33 or so, it felt like it was a little too much, coulda done something else for effect, like added a doubletrack to the guitar which was already playing the same thing but with that track tuned up a semitone. That and you coulda let go with the solo a bit more.. built up a grand climax at the peak of which the drums go silent except for the hi-hats for a few seconds and then on again.

In any case feel free not to care about that as it is just my opinion. The song was ace anyway.

Why should the bass be more prominent? It's pretty clear to me, also louder than you'd here in a lot of songs especially for this genre.

It still needs some work done on the mix, maybe just playing with the guitar tones. I'd personally try and incorporate a bit more clarity with the guitars; still with distortion though. But it also depends what type of sound you're going for, some people like it rough ;)

Good work overall though, keep it up man!

thanks, i agree i don't really know that much about mixing and mastering so the overall sound could be improved, imo the distortion is quite abrasive.
Also i have to say that it lacks the vocal track so some parts need to be repeated, for example at 2:25 that part is supposed to be the main chorus.
I used Cubase 5 and for the drums EZDrummer.

Difficult question cause it has so many parts, mainly Cm, Gm, D# then A7 to Dm - A# Gm F. I get what your saying about that part, i wasn't really secure of how finishing it but i think the problem there is the distortion and not the riff itself for me it blends amazingly well with the prechorus vocals. Thanks for the feedback. :p

A bit sterile,
but that has to do a lot with the mode of production.
(Also, i don't particularly appreciate being called a niche.)

oh, the bitches thing

It seems he is a closet ISTJ whose tertiary Fi and tradionalistic worldview means he's touchy and can't stand profanity. The only thing to do is keep on calling him a bitch til his Si adjusts, it may take forever but it must be done.

Pensive-land.....
that. was. pretty. fucking. good.
accurate comments have already been posted: gets a little repetitive, the distorted guitar doesn't fit well. The whole thing is too homogeneous, and the guitar isn't a good way of adding variety. Also, why is it ALL at one loudness level?

I'm not good at mastering and i'm still learning how to do it well so i guess i was just trying to make everything hearable for the average listener.

Nice. The distortion a little less maybe. Cubase 5? Man I long to make music. I play guitar, taught myself a little bit. But I can't record anything beside sit would not be good enough. I bought a BK-3 last Januari. I should really hook it up to my pc sometime.

What software to use...

Who am I kidding. All these softwares are so hard to use. The ads always make it look so easy. But you need a real study to even begin. I hate that.

I hate it that everything is so hard to learn.

Well at the begining the results were pretty awfull. I was so lazy to watch tutorials for every part of the process, recording, mixing, mastering blabla, so what i did was learn the very basics. You'll get used to it within a few weeks, it's really easy and then with time (years) by myself i kept adding little details like plugins, tricks on every track for enhanding the sound, vsts, etc. Pick anything, everything works fine, i just stick to Cubase cause it was easier to pirate.

The cheapest version is affordable. I just checked. I could get it, but might rarely use it. Maybe when I get meds.
