Re: Your Ideal Male Partner
Could you elaborate on how those things are "abstract?"
If I were setting you up on a blind date and you wanted to know something about the guy and I described them as cute, funny, confident, and intelligent, would that tell you much about the guy? Wouldn't you rather I told you something specific about how he looks, highlighting some of his noticeable features (as opposed to just
cute)? That he has a sarcastic or dark sense of humor (as opposed to just
funny)? That he's outgoing and isn't afraid to tell the truth or he's quiet/stoic (as opposed to just
confident)? That he's pre-med or that he enjoys reading/discussing philosophy or that he's interested in politics (as opposed to just
intelligent)?
I'm not picking on you, but as a writer, I know that describing a character with words like these doesn't give the reader much to go on (eg if I introduce a character and just say that they're cute, different readers will have wildly different ideas of what it means to be cute).
If you were trying to describe an ideal male partner, it seems like cute, funny, intelligent etc would go without saying (I can't think of too many people that would prefer someone ugly, dry, and stupid). However, your personal preference as to what constitutes cute, funny, intelligent etc are worthy of mention.
Apologies if I seem like I'm making a big deal out of something small, I'm just being unnecessarily nitpicky!
