You know you're an INTP when...

(bear with me on this one)
You put off your three week English essay until the night before, but realize that there's no chance in hell you'll be able to finish it, so you decide to just tell the teacher and turn it in late. Then when the teacher extends the due date two days, you again wait until the last minute and again decide to just turn it in late. Then, when the teacher extends the due date until next Monday after Thanksgiving, you put it off until the last minute and AGAIN decide to just turn it in late. Then, when your teacher forgets to collect it for three more days, then extends it two more days, you work for about an hour a night at midnight to finish it and turn it in nearly two weeks after the due date for full credit.

Coincidentally, that is also when you wonder who's gonna die to balance all that luck.

/my 12th grade English class

To this day I wonder how lucky I was to have graduated. We had a 7 page research paper (part of a senior project) that was due in early January but started in November. I didn't even have one page down and I tried to finish it all on the last day. Surprise, surprise, I underestimated the difficulty and didn't turn anything in. Extensions were given but not taken advantage of. Months later, near the end of 12th grade, I needed clearance for graduation since I never did the paper. My teacher gave me another extension and I tried my best to get it all done in the last week but realized it was pointless and how irresponsible I was. However I found out someone mysteriously cleared it for me on the day before the last day of school...

You know you're an INTP when your luck comes in at just the right moment.

1) you are simultaneously considered near genius and retarded. your iq surpasses your eq by more than 60 points.

2) you blithely launch into an abstruse topic without introduction and naively hope folks are on board.

3) laundry, dishes, and other menial chores are neglected until their odor and/or color is viewed as being unappealing to potentional guests.

4) you secretely enjoy when people deem you weird, although it would be a pejorative for most people.

5) while others turn away from the screen squeamishly, you hone in on the details of an eye surgery.

6) transfixed by a topic, you get genuinely upset when after six hours your bodymind demands food.

Eh, I don't get squeamish but some things I do not like to look at.

- you think about thinking, about thinking, about thinking, about thinking, until well you eventually realize you're thinking about thinking, then you can't get the idea of why thinking about thinking is going on in your mind, so you start to analyze what thinking is only to find yourself back in the loop.

[I've spent about 3 days in that loop, seriously sucks, don't think I ate or even slept well. Or is that just one for me?]

you put the jonas brothers in the same league as the rolling stones...

Ooo this offends me, because I don't know who the Jonas Brothers are and logically I don't care because "brothers" is part of their name, and the Rolling Stones have such a complex and meaningful name, well atleast according to how things operate in my mind, and I haven't heard anyother band thus far [I think that's the only logical usage of thus (other than using it while defining itself to point out what you're defining)] that has said something so simple and complex as "you can't always get what you want, etc".

You are not sure you are an INTP but the only other considerations are an ISTP which would be humiliating or an INTJ which is too horrible to contemplate.

Ha my brother is an ISTP.

People don't understand that you are looking at the stars to contemplate their physical/metaphysical dimensions, not to be romantic.

People fall in love with you, get fustrated, try to make you jealous, fail, get angry and announce that they are ready to move on before you have even realised that they liked you in the first place.

You have been on about 20 dates with the the same person without realising that they don't just want to hang out.

You long for a PA who will do all the boring things for you and leave you to create and think.

You withstand pain longer than necessary to understand and conquer it.

You wonder why people don't just become virtuous instead of being evil and trying to hide it.

A few hours without stimulation and you are ready to cut your wrists.

You have a headache but do not get off the computer.

A relationship consists of genuine friendship + sex. Anything else is too complicated.

You wish that all libraries were 24hr.

Captured, your thoughts before breakfast would be a philosophical masterpiece.

I have to do it in secret just because of this.

This happened only once, and I was actually aware of what was going on. It was kind of amusing to watch, but I dare not acknowledge her. I enjoyed the friendship too much.

Seriously.

When you are willing to admit to yourself that Deity seems like the only hope, and that he/she/it can pull it off because he/she/it is smarter than you, but you get hung up on the fact that it's smarter than you. Your thought process should sound something like this. "I spent so much time thinking about this and it CAN'T make sense no F#$%$%^ way."

I was thinking about posting this, but figured it would end up sounding far too cliché.

if you have those thoughts all the time.

Really, does it matter if it's cliche? It better than nuttin in my opinion. Still, emotion and dissonance really are pretty analogous.

- You hoard educational materials.

- You realize that the best way to indicate to another person which way you're passing while walking, is to lead with your shoulder.

- You spend 80% of your time walking, looking at the sky. (Trees and clouds are more interesting than most people).

- You secretly want to sneak into a college class you've not enrolled in.

- Your computer desktop is incredibly neat and organized while your room is in ruins.

- In group activities you work out the problem yourself then advise the group once you've solved it.

- You take personal offense when your teachers label Wikipedia as a tool for 6th graders.

- You try to find patterns in license plates or house numbers.

- You double numbers in your head when you're bored.

- You memorize objects in certain areas just to see if you'll recall that object when you walk by that area.

^ None of that goes for me, though I find #5 to apply to INTJs also. It's funny, back in 9th grade, in an English class my group was assigned the task of creating a fantasy world, visually and on paper. The INTJ basically took over and turned it into some LotR offshoot. Nobody else in the group even did anything, but he allowed us to get credit. :D

Wow I have wanted many times to go to a random class room and sit down and just learn what they have to say.

Don't think it would fit here but today I achieved not speaking out my mind in class today, and in my religious class I decided not to bring up arguments to ideas, because I realized, most people think I am trying to cause trouble... when will they ever learn? It is hard hold back when you can see all the errors and lapses reason. Why don't others just see this as useful information and be thankful that we where there to help in the error?

- when you realize you made a major step forward to self reward after you finally, somehow, and you still don't know how, broke the barrier and began talking the the girl[or person you are interested in] and found it quite easy and intriging. (or is this just me)

- when you finally realize that other people aren't all blindly following what people told them to believe, and they can actually think.... [learned I wasn't the only non-christain/almost atheist in my classes, I was just the boldest and only one (I know that sounds odd) that would speak up about things, basically showing I was different.]

- when you find pleasure others are going to join you on the journey to hell (as christains/or other religious say)

- when you are told by mutliple people in one week that you are the anti-christ for just asking basic questions, trying to make people think.

if you have those thoughts all the time.

Really, does it matter if it's cliche? It better than nuttin in my opinion. Still, emotion and dissonance really are pretty analogous.

Definition of DISSONANCE

1
a : lack of agreement; especially : inconsistency between the beliefs one holds or between one's actions and one's beliefs — compare cognitive dissonance b : an instance of such inconsistency or disagreement

2
: a mingling of discordant sounds; especially : a clashing or unresolved musical interval or chord

Emotion:

  1. A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes; a feeling: the emotions of joy, sorrow, reverence, hate, and love.
  2. A state of mental agitation or disturbance: spoke unsteadily in a voice that betrayed his emotion. See synonyms at feeling.
  3. The part of the consciousness that involves feeling; sensibility
Analogous:

1
: showing an analogy or a likeness that permits one to draw an analogy

2
: being or related to as an analogue

Also, emotional dissonance refers to the effort and taxation associated with feeling a particular emotion but having to project a different emotion simultaneously. I posted a definition of emotion so I don't need to explain that. So yes there is a line and nothing would have been better than what you had to say. Cognitive Dissonance is also included in here, you may wanna take a peek at that.

As for what I said, my interpretation stems from my uncertainty of whether I am actually feeling an emotion, happiness, or am I just displaying that emotion because I am driven by the ultimate fear of being misunderstood and wrongfully judged. I know in reality that I am sad but I try my best to display happiness and act normal(i.e., emotional dissonance). The visage is so intrinsic to me that the line drawn between the reality that I am sad and how I perceive that I am supposed to feel begins to dissipate leaving me to wonder what the difference between happiness and sadness is.

^ Yes I am although my current school has a very limited philosophy department [I think there is only one professor, I've only seen/meet/heard of one]. But next year I should be transfering to a bigger place, where I will make sure it has a really good philosophy department, if that is the correct name. [My current philosophy professor is really good though, even though he is my religious opposite, haha. He, in my opinion, is the most entertaining teacher and actually gives knowledge and challenges people to think, at this school atleast.]

I dont know if it has to do with INTPs but something weird happened to me tonite.

I went to the store with my dad and little bro around 8 and we parked and they went in while i stayed in the car. They were taking long and this car pulled up next to me and it had 2 nice lookin college girls and a guy in it. The guy goes in the store and the girl is staring at me. I look at her and smile because shes like staring at me and she did a little wave thing. Then i looked back at my ipod like i was doing something, and i could tell she was still staring at me. Then later, a few seconds before my dad and bro came back i made i contact with her for about 4 seconds, because i know alot about body language and attraction (NLP stuff) , the guy should keep eye conact to show confidence and all that shit. Well of course after about 4seconds i smile and look away, and shes smiling and still staring at me. talking to the girl in the back, and i think laughing, even as we pulled away from the store. I didnt know what to make of it. If i didnt have social anxiety, i would have stared right back at here and held up a sign that said "show boobs please" ahha..

What does this mean? Was she a sociology major and knew that eye contact was instinctiveley hard to keep? or was she high? or was she fuckin with me? i dont know, it will echo in my mind for many days to come im sure.

she reminds me of myself, though we probably have different motivations. I habitually stare at people for the fun of it. To play with my own anxiety and to play with the mind that follows a coherent perception of norms. I've angered a few, bothered most, but I usually withdraw by the time I reach a certain 'danger' point. Sometimes, I think it's a good way to make friends.

"Look, reality isn't always straightforward."

On the whole, it's probably nothing. just a "sleight of hand".

-When you can answer any question from a friend with a combination of a head nod, shoulder shrug and smile..;')

-When You hang out with a group of friends for 2 weeks, everyday. And say a word, and they point out thats the first time you've spoken in 2 weeks. So you look at them, shrug and smile:')

I think she was messing with your head, but probably at first she was just being friendly.

I look back at females in other cars when I'm really curious, making eye contact to kind of give them a glimpse of my world.

Everybody always thinks they are right, that's called having opinions. If people didn't think they where right they wouldn't think anything at all.

You know you're an INTP when you feel absolutely compelled to point out facts such as that one no matter how irrelevant they are to the given situation.

Also, I didn't read the bottom of your post so I just repeated what you said in a much lengthier way.

You know you're an INTP when you accidentally neglect to read/hear/see other peoples points out of pure eagerness to make your own.

When your mind's tendency to wander increases ten fold when you have an assignment due the next day.

When you don't understand half the looks people give you.

When you go into robot mode when someone is in your field of vision because you think they are watching you.

When you try to visualize how a day in the life is for a random person you see in the city.

When your sense of humor extends from slapstick to sarcastic wit.

When someone asks you for your stance on a situation and gives you a confused look when you argue the other side, but then shows signs of agreement when you pose the counterargument. (lol this can get you into trouble even though you basically said nothing.)

you think there's 'deep meaning' to it? A random person and a random place?

No. She just wanted to look at him because she saw him and I don't know how much randomness is involved what happened is just what happened. Maybe she thought he was cute, maybe she thought he was goofy, maybe she thought any number of other things but we won't ever know. So, when you remove speculation from the situation you just get that it happened and that's that.
