Anybody have any experience working with fellow introverts who are struggling with self-acceptance, and trying to figure out how to keep them from withdrawing and staying motivated? Looking for some ideas. Thanks.

So you think a good swift kick in the pants may be in order?

Well, I got softhearted and tried the sympathetic approach. We'll see how that works. Seems like the main thing is that we work better via email than we do face-to-face.

I assume it depends very heavily upon all kinds of contingent factors. What role the persons play in the business, whether the public is involved, what kind of work is entailed, etc., etc.

I don't know that there are decent generic answers to this kind of question because the details are the meat and potatoes of the issue.

Learn what motivates them and frame the group's goal in that direction. Based on my observations and personal experiences, a motivated introvert can move mountains.

Primarily make sure they understand themselves. Simply show the practical advantages of sticking your head out of the cave periodically. Really I don't know the situation so I can't give a straight answer.

Actually, I change my answer: What Dave said.

Learn what motivates them

I was able to do that on the first leg of the project, and we rocked it. Seems like he's back in a trough again, though. Not sure what to say this time except, "You can do this."

Let them know that if they fail to impress you, you will club them like a seal.

Right, the beatings will continue until morale improves.

Actually, I just said to him, "I'm here if you need anything," and then I backed off. I shut down my evil twin ESFJ, which wasn't doing anyone any good. It seemed to work. The guy had a burst of inspiration and came up with a bunch of new ideas.

Monday is show time, though. We'll see what happens. I think I'll be fine either way, actually.
