Oh, yeah, don't live in a dorm !

College is better, depending on where you go. It might be hell to take two years of general ed.

In France they don't have that, so I do major and minor in philosophy from the very start. Only class that is not philosophy is Latin.

im pretty much in the same boat as you, seducer. ive essentially decided to wait for college, rather than keep trying to make high school into something i can "enjoy" like the rest of my peers.

college for me means new freedoms in more ways than academia. my father is heavily "J" and strongly disapproves of my seemingly aimless lifestyle. unfortunately, his response to my lack of activity is to take things away from me until i "do stuff." things like having a drivers license, playing video games, watching age-appropriate shows and movies; those freedoms i will get back as well.

as for my academic interests, my ultimate career goal is to be a video game designer, and so i learn about everything i think is relevant to that goal while im in school. i try and do well in my english, math, physics, and computer graphics classes because those are what i feel are relevant to me. i am also taking computer science next year, to continue my trend of "relevant classes." this is all academic, and other things i want to do include buying game design books and also modding games. unfortunately my dad put heavy parental blocks on our computer (mainly because he thinks all i do on the internet is look at porn because of some stuff he found way back when), so modding is out of the question, and i also feel that the books will be useless because of i lack a medium to practice their methods on. im also scared to tell my dad my goals because its not something i want him to support me with, and also because i dont have a high opinion of him, to put it nicely.

in short, i guess what im trying to say is that i want my "victory" to be my own, and that involves doing things my own way, which i am hoping, will be a possibility for me once i leave home.

Yea I'm going to U of Rochester next year and I can't wait to get out of this god-forsaken institution. I think that we generally agree that high school is populated by and intended for idiots. I've met approximately 3 educated people in my life (I've led a small life) and expect this number to increase greatly as I attend college. Colleges have professors. Dudes walking around with Ph.Ds. Unlimited food. Something called a "course catalog".

The paradox of high school is that if you don't do any of the stupid work that they assign you, you will end up in a college doing potentially equally stupid work. But I imagine that most people on this forum can scrape a 90 something with relatively little effort. On a side note, it does bring some satisfaction watching the grade-grubbing demons cry after sucking on their third try on the SAT.

I was waiting for you to finish :D. I have been enjoying college thus far. I am currently 2 weeks into my thrid quarter of freshmen year. It seems that because I have chosen to major in biology most of my classes are predestined. I have been able to choose to take psychology, and will be able to take a philosophy course next year, but I mainly have to follow a fairly linear path if I want to graduate "on time".

This ment that I had to take biology, chemistry, spanish, and math durring my freshmen year. It is a little tiring taking 20 credit hours back to back, but its nothing I can not handle.

I like the fact that I am the only person responsible for rationing my time. Most of my classes begin at 10:30am and can go as late as 8:30pm. I enjoy that freedom. I would type more, but I have a biology lab here in a few minutes. (Ironically :p)

One final thought. I do not mind living in a dorm setting too much. I live in a suit of 10 people, but only share the same bedroom with 3 others. Since everyone has their own schedual we do not seem to bother each other much. I think I have just been catagorized as the "weird quite guy".

Oh, I have some advice here: abandon all hopes of graduating on time.

Universities are being hit hard in this recession, classes are being cut and consolidated all over the place, so even if you're one of those few people that doesn't change their mind and major in something slightly different than what you planned, it's projected that the cuts to classes alone is going to increase the time it takes to graduate by 1.3 years on average.

I am just about to leave college, and have some really strong advice for INTPs:

1) It's going to be fun. Lots of freedom and lots of opportunities. You might be initially attracted to everything. But remember that misusing your freedom will only lead you into stronger leashes in the future. Have clearly defined, feasible goals.

2) Remember that you have freedom of choice. DO NOT choose a subject you do not like, under whatever pressure (parental, peer, etc.) It can be VERY Harmful to your career.

3) Do not change interests in between. Stick to your dreams.

4) Enjoy what you're doing, and you'll have the time of your life. :D
