He joined under the premise that he was experimenting with his own personality, every two weeks becoming a different personality as a means of exploring the boundaries of personality. I don't know the exact details, but I'm guessing this is what spilled into multiple accounts. It caused a bit of paranoia at the time about who was and isn't XIII, etc.

Some of the XIII posts give the impression that this experiment was as much one on the community, that he was cognisant of from the start. He said in some posts that he saw a lot of squandered creative talent here, and by challenging the notion of INTP as a category he was trying to challenge what he saw as a comfortable, sleepy pattern that some had fallen into.

It always read like an interesting experiment to me, but it's easy to see why he was banned.

He sounds like a genius.

It shows a lot of artistic foresight in my opinion. He created something very specific to the medium and the form of communication (forum), what is a new medium and probably without much artistic precedence. And as a rule, form = content, is a sign of good art.

His project raises ethical questions in my opinion, as certainly manipulation was involved in it. But that doesn't stop it from being interesting or having value.

IMO taking on multiple personalities can be done from one registration. Just respond to whatever (whomever) is posting and be true to that persona. If one looks deeply enough one can find the same person underneath I would think.

Think of playwrights. They write different plays yet have a common style ... not that it doesn't change over time.

When I posted on another wild and freewheeling bulletin board, some posters were regularly banned. I recall one "buttsmoke." He was a great poster, eventually banned. He would reappear multiple times and the board had a great time uncovering who he was. He could hold a new persona for a while before discovered. He had many imitators.

This is an oversimplification, but structure, form, logic is the opposite of expression, content, meat. INTP's tend to be overly weighted in logic, myself included. This gives rise to a need for what is missing. Hence the fascination with content.

Note that the party/personas in question tend to be pure expression (I haven't checked these all out), lacking the reasonableness of reason. Lyra himself called reason an evil thing (I forget how he put it). In life's activities, pure content is an nefarious as pure logic.

Sounds too much like coincidental conjecture. XIII/ Lyra have complimented other people before (like the recently banned sig/ sparrow dupe, for example.)

If you're curious about that I'd maybe pm a mod like LoR or Fukyo rather than make public speculations, in honesty. I think Fukyo (or LoR) said in that recent thread that XIII was allowed to re-join as they felt his posts were interesting/ something invigorating for the forum:

Sounds too much like coincidental conjecture. XIII/ Lyra have complimented other people before (like the recently banned sig/ sparrow dupe, for example.)

If you're curious about that I'd maybe pm a mod like LoR or Fukyo rather than make public speculations, in honesty. I think Fukyo (or LoR) said in that recent thread that XIII was allowed to re-join as they felt his posts were interesting/ something invigorating for the forum:

Lyra isn't someone you can easily agree to disagree with (and woe to anyone who calls him out on any particular point), but I don't think that he is a troll. There are a number of themes that consistently run throughout his posts related to ideas that he was dedicated to exploring, including the plasticity of human identity and the extent to which it can be consciously altered in order to achieve something higher. That idea resonated with me tremendously because I was in a receptive position at the time and just needed someone to express it the right way, which Lyra did.

If you're looking for something rigorously systematic in Lyra's project you won't find it. His aim, as I understand it, was to plant seeds and expose loose threads that would cause curious individuals who happened upon them to explore the ideas further. I do think that BAP, in spite of his occasional obtuseness, is approaching as close a definition as possible for someone like Lyra who categorically resists and evades being defined (and he would probably resent me saying this).

His methods and his message(s) are clearly not for everyone or even every moment. I stumbled across his stuff several times before I was really in a position to try and appreciate what he was doing. I don't think it's fair to dismiss him altogether because of his subversive and manipulative tendencies or because of his venomous ad hominems. You're throwing out a number of babies out with that bathwater if you do.

To me Lyra came as close to embodying the Walt Whitman's idea of "containing multitudes" as anyone I've ever encountered, and for that achievement I admire him.

To what extent do you think such should be allowed then? Don't forget this is still a community of other individuals. Lyra is not the only person here, he's one person and one person should not receive special treatment to the detriment of others.


I agree it's a noble thing to excuse negative behavior for one's inspirational ideas, but that calls for a critical evaluation to determine justified tolerance from sycophantic indulgence.


I really would like to explore this as a thread topic to be honest.
