I don't even know who I am, but a few recent personality tests have labeled me as an INTP. After reading a few online descriptions, I realize that its a very close description of me, so I suppose that's partly who I am.

Hmmm... I do believe I am a INTP. I took 3 tests, and got the same results. So... tada :)

hey all. i'm GYX kid and im pretty set on the notion that my default core is INTP. this feels like an AA meeting. anyway im kind of new to using these jungian ranks as real social devices, but i think maybe ive stumbled into a good source on the internet for once.

some things about me:
-am usually too chill to care, and make control freaks look like desperate idiots
-can appear to have a changing outward personality depending on inner/external stimuli like a chameleon, but probably not to match surroundings
-bring out creative/entertaining sides in attachable contexts, particular types of absurdist humor
-snowball momentum into being really analytical like this
-disconnected existential/borderline-nihilist at times, versatile and could disprove everything here to varying degrees if i really felt like it
-love really heavy music, spicy food, adrenaline
-core being is rooted in 'own little world'

Hi everyone i am new as well. i usually just read posts and never join anyrhing but i feel now ready to talk and stop stalking the discussion boards.I have been trying to make sure that i am intp by reading the posts and i do have some similarities to others. I do live in my own world, i have a hard time speaking to others directly out of fear that i dont know the right things to say, i have a problem with trusting others (that may be just me ), i wish people know that i wish them well and wish i could relate to them-but i walk the tightrope of disenchantment with people and actually caring about interation(much like the goddess Kali is destructive yet compassionate). im considered a loner and thank the universe that i actually have friends that understand me ahahaha i hope i can find even more here because i seem extra different from most i meet on my campus.... a thought: could virgos be prone to be intp i dont want to make the test we all take to figure out our personalities as flimsy as a horoscope but could it be??? sry i think much too much but am glad to speak to anyone from this forum:)

There is a poll here somewhere for INTPs and Astrology, though I don't think many here take it seriously. I myself am Aquarius and I find the temperamental aspects to be fitting to my personality. There are other correlations, however most will argue coincidence. All in all, welcome. :)

I've been recently introduced to whole personality type ordeal. I must I'm very interested, but also very confused. The majority of the tests sorted me as an INTP, but I also got ISTP once ENTP, and surprisingly ENFP. I think INTP is closest but in some areas I think I'm more of an ISTP. I enjoy adventures, plus I'm not very socially awkward. Either way, hello I'm new here :)

I just read mine. Some of it was true, but as I was reading, I realized I was trying to warp some of it to 'make' it true. I then read it with no bias. Enough was false that I call it BS.

You're also probably not even an Aquarius. I mean, when did that stuff start? 2000 years ago? I know for fact the stars have moved since then. You're about a month shy. If that nonsense is to be believed, anyway. Which it isn't, by sane and rational folk.

I do not have any beliefs. I am not satisfied with what I know or know I do not know. I get along quite well with most people, and can fake it to alarming degrees with anyone, but only for limited time periods. I do enjoy basking in my prowess at making new "friends", but rarely ever attach to them. If I meet you at the bar, and we spend 3 hours talking about this or that, and exchange numbers and leave, it's likely we'll never see one another again. There are simply too many of you for me to have feelings for.

I do have a weakness for women and, knowing that, am very resistant to their charms. I do give in to the drink often, although I have mastered (recently) the art of not driving obviously intoxicated. Switching to vodka helps, as it has no noticeable odor. Just saying.

I try my best to remain unbiased and fair in all dealings, and will only lie to the police. Sorry, officer, but if I'm not being murdered, I don't want to talk to you. Go play somewhere else. I have many opinions. I vocalize them, but usually only with people whom I trust. Or with people whose respect I do not care for. Let's face it - some people must be designated as extras in our lives.

I do love my family and friends, if that word means "wish them the freedom to do as they please and the knowledge to do it correctly, as long as what they please to do is acceptable". I have done stupid and dangerous things to protect complete strangers from harm, not fully understanding why. The rewards were stories, and those are always useful I suppose.

There are so many things I want to create and manage and build and I do not have the energy to even quantify them. I have no idea what the future holds, but it looks bleak. My best hope is to make the best of what I have and take whatever opportunities come along. Maybe.

There was more, but I'm

Since I found out about MBTI I've been circling warily around INFJ, INTJ and INTP.

On shorter tests, I tend to test INFJ, because I have problems with the T/F questions. They pit "mercy" against "justice" and "clarity" against "compassion," as if justice itself was not a form of mercy (and vice-versa), and as if clarity opposed compassion rather than enhancing it.

On longer tests, I tend to get INTJ. The larger number of questions allows my analytical nature to stand out a bit more. But then we run into trouble with the P/J questions. Deadlines for me are sacrosanct and I like to get started early on assignments so I at least have the shape of the project in my head. Yet I'm messy, absent-minded, etc etc.

Looking at descriptions of how INTJs and INTPs function, it seems to be a crapshoot which one will describe me better. For example, this INTP description--

http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/myers-briggs/intp.htm

--fits me better than the INTJ description on the same site. (In particular, the description of how INTPs function on a team:

  • using analytical and critical skills to solve problems
  • focusing attention on the central issue
  • providing intellectual insight
  • suggesting ideas that achieve long and short term aims
  • viewing information objectively)
That's all moi. Yet, that is only very subtly different from what the INTJ is described as doing:

http://www.teamtechnology.co.uk/myers-briggs/intj.htm

  • challenging the status quo
  • leading the team to a greater understanding of the concepts and principles involved
  • finding ways to overcome apparently insurmountable difficulties
  • developing and maintaining a sense of direction in the team's work
  • observing and understanding the way the organisation works, and leading the team to take appropriate action
  • producing work to a high level of quality
  • ensuring that ideas and vision are translated into action
In the above cases, there's a lot of overlap, and it might just be an accident of wording that I find the INTP list more congenial than the INTJ list.

I've tried coming at it by function order: Ni-Te for INTJ, Ti-Ne for INTP. But the more I read and think about it, the harder it is for me to be sure I can meaningfully distinguish between which of those functions I introvert and which I extravert.

I used to think a gut feeling would do it--sign up for a forum or a mailing list and see which group you feel most comfortable in. But I wasn't taking into account that different fora dedicated to the same MBTI types can differ wildly in culture and tone. I've found that out now, so I'm back at square one.

I do know that the most popular sub-forums on this site are MY FAVORITE TOPICS, and that these are NOT popular over at Another Forum I Post On. So....hell, maybe I am INTP. But I'm cautious about saying so just yet. For right now, INTJ is still my best guess.

Hi all,

I'm really glad to have found this forum. I'm looking forward to chatting with people that understand my point of view.

A few things about me:

--My entire life i've felt alone, misunderstood. Everyone around me seems to have a limited scope. Obsessed with their emotions and always trying to conform and fit in.

--I've always found it very easy to make people laugh. I attribute this to being able to think outside the box, where I'm most comfortable. My humor is spontaneous and illogical. If it's obvious and expected, it's not funny.

--I have a very strong connection to nature. I moved out of my parents home at the age of 18. All of my apartments/homes since then have been surrounded by nature, either by the sea, lush gardens or forests. Every single day I am awed by the beauty and deep wisdom embedded within nature.

--I'm obsessed with finding logical truths, especially in nature. I see the universe as a massive machine and I'm always trying to fill in the blanks, trying to make sense of it's function and growth. I feel deeply connected to the universe. This has always made it very difficult to interact with people. They would rather talk about their feelings or what they recently watched on TV.

Thanks for reading.

Heya. I am George. I did the test by chance and the result was INTP. Now what? Can somebody explain to me why do we have to categorize ourselves with acronyms? What exactly is the usage of this forum? Thanks :p

Hi, I trying to figure out whether I am really an INTJ or INTP, I scored almost 50/50 J/P on test, J came out slightly on top. Upon reading several different profiles of an INTP though, INTP fits me almost perfectly. So, here I am.

Sorry, put post in wrong place /faceplam

There are a lot of new people on this site, coincidentally, because it's the post I'm introducing myself in.

What I don't understand is how INTP describes me perfectly, except for it describes us as being ridiculously organized and loving structure and schedules. This is partly true for me, as I love the idea of structure and schedules and organization, but when I am in it its a nightmare. The only exception is organization. I do like organization, but I can't ever achieve it. When I try to apply to myself structure and schedules I get stressed about deadlines and procrastinate things I love to do simply because there's a deadline to it. If I just have hours with no sort of deadlines or requirements I become very productive. Does that mean I'm still an INTP?

Welcome new members. :)

@Geo Because that's the way it is, get used to it.
@Unsure INTJs are usually more self-critical than INTPs, for what it is worth.
@wilsonwatson An INTP's nemesis is a deadline, but that also means it gives us a reason to actually try.

I have reasons to try if there's no deadline. For example. I had to read different chapters in a very large history book, and I couldn't make myself do it even though the book seemed interesting, because there was a deadline on when we had to read it. The exams have come and gone and I failed the test because I didn't read the book. Now that the semester is over and it doesn't matter whether I read it, I've started to take it up as pleasure reading.

It is this backward and counter-intuitive logic that really plagues INTPs.

yep. it almost feels painful to do something "pointlessly" after the failed deadline. it can be like learning the hard way for everything sometimes. having to eat beaten dead horse as food can provide whatever it does supply though

Evening all, my names Hamster but you can all call me Lord. I'll allow it ;)

I'm an INTP all out. I took a MBTI test by myself 5 years ago and came out INTP, took one 10 minutes ago and still came out INTP. I read the definition of INTP after taking the test and got chills and really excited and my personality being picked apart so accurately. It also helped me logically rationalise some things that have happened in my life recently but oh well, at least now I know why.

How's everyone doing?

EDIT: Also, love the Redshirt ranking

My favourites are actually the klingon females so far.

I might like the vulcans, but I haven't really seen much of them. I'm in season 4 TNG now. Those Borgs are just annoying. There have been some intriguing alien designs, but I can't remember what they were. A planet with constant night on one side and day on the other was kinda neat!

Hi! I've taken several tests, and usually I'm an INTP, though occasionally I stray into INTJ territory. INTP seems to fit me better, given that as soon as I saw this forum I thought "Ooh! This will be a great place to suck up random knowledge!"

RANDOM KNOWLEDGE?!?! *squeals of delight*

Sorry, haven't introduced myself. I'm new too.

I took the Jung/MBTI-style test on NerdTests.com (there is probably a reason I always end up on those sites while on the Internet, but I don't really know what it is...) and--the first time--came out ISTJ or something really weird, and the description didn't fit me at all. I tried again a few days later, still confused, and came out INTP. I was so amazed at how detailed the description was and how well it fit. I don't really buy into fortunetelling and junk, so that was a surprise.

Systems! This explained a lot. I run a web site and write novels, and plan to take at least two (if not three) languages and a programming language class in high school, in which I am now enrolled at thirteen years old. (I skipped 8th grade.)

About Me:
-Hatred of deadlines (apparently shared)
-Dislike of math, which most people don't get because I'm pretty accurate at it. They don't seem to get that just because you're halfway decent at something doesn't mean you like it.
-Can be a dreamer at times of emotion or fascination, even though that's really more of an INFP-ish thing, but not a touchy-feely person
-Default setting: nose in book. You will not get my attention easily if this is the case.
-Can spend over four hours straight writing a novel without getting up to eat, leaving for the bathroom, getting a drink, or any other distractions, without noticing. Unfortunately, this utter concentration does not extend to my homework.
-Does rely quite a bit on approval from others, because I'm not as sure of myself as I'd like to be
-Determined (or stubborn), sometimes to the point of being really annoying
-Not talkative, but put me on a keyboard and an email system and I become eloquent, but won't shut up. (As you're probably finding out now.)
-Yes, I'm actually thirteen.

I love random knowledge. I read somewhere that in Japan, it's socially unacceptable to blow your nose but acceptable to pick it. (I have no idea if this is true.) I also once memorized the Greek alphabet, just for the heck of it. I wish I could speak the language, but it looks really hard. :slashnew:

Hi, I'm new; I don't really like reading things that people post about themselves because not only does it seem very biased but they always seem to be saying the same things (eg. their misunderstood and alone or their brilliant and lovable). So in order to refrain from being too hypocritical I'd rather just skip all that.
What I will say is that I was tested twice (5years between each test) and both times I was shown to be an INTP and If there are any interesting viewpoints and arguments on threads in this forum I'll be more than happy to consider them and put in my own two cents. ;)

There are always some interesting topics, but I would say 50% of all that the topics contain is humor in a usually very subtle way. So it's a joy reading here as it may tricker a little laugh now and then

That is a good way to read threads, assume we are all comedians, sharing 'private' jokes that only fellow INTPians could appreciate...;)

Hello, I'm feeling uninspired today, having a hard time focusing on the writing I need to do. Came here for a break and to say hello. Had a networking event to attend this morning but didn't do as well as I wanted to. It takes a lot of practice to make a habit of schmoozing.

Writing a paper is like teaching a class. People should leave your paper changed by the process of reading it, as they should leave a class changed by taking it. So:

Ask yourself how someone will be changed reading your paper? What do they need to know? Can you explain it in one sentence? There's your thesis. Good luck.

Funny how one thing could function as a unique 'symbol' that could mean anything to anybody.

I rather enjoy ambiguity of interpretation.

Hello. For awhile I thought I was an INTJ as the tests said, but I realized the questions were too vague, and didn't exactly cover true scenarios. After doing thorough research, by reading descriptions of both types and comparing it to myself, I think I am an INTP. At first I joined an INTJ forum thinking that I was one of them but it still didn't feel completely right. There are a lot of similarities between INTJ and INTP, and I think I view myself more as the latter.
