I find subjects or people I am interested in an pursue them. I move on when I get bored. Ergo, I am a pretty simple guy.

My simplified purpose that I created is to not be::confused:

The other part is to expand in the areas that fascinate me.

You speak as if we have purposes, do we?

Are we supposed to have one?

I guess I'd say something similar to what Proxy said. Although, one could probably say that what he said is how most everyone operates, on a very simplistic level.

If you mean "what's your purpose?" as in what drives me and gives me a reason to keep living then I guess my motivation for almost anything is boredom. I get out of bed in the morning (afternoon, actually, I guess) because I get bored lying (laying?) there doing nothing. I jump around from activity to activity (games, reading, etc.) dropping each one as it becomes dull to me and then I'll eventually go to bed because I've exhausted the day's entertainment. I wouldn't say I really have a long term purpose -- I've got no mission or higher calling. I think at some point I'd like to live in the California Bay Area and work at a record store and/or record press but it'd hardly be the first time I had an "I'd like to do that" thought that I'll abandon months or weeks later, so I wouldn't qualify it as a purpose.

My purposes is to eliminate distractions from finding my purpose.

Just kidding, I already know it. Generally speaking I've found that it's important not to have a purpose too loosely defined, and conversely not one too specific. The problem with a too specific purpose is that eventually you'll probably achieve it, and then where are you left? The too vague purpose is useless, you'll hardly know what to do to achieve it. I've also found it really important to have a purpose.

So I've run through a number of purposes to arrive at the real reason I'm here which is to study and develop computers. I have many more specific goals, doing with artificial intelligence and the Singularity, but that encapsulates it.

do you mean purpose as in reason for existence or purpose as intent?

if reason for existence then i think the question is a waste of time to ponder.

if intent is what was intended, then my purpose is to do chemistry that interests me. there are sub purposes and sub sub purposes also. those are always changing.

Anyway, purpose? To enjoy life fundamentally. And maybe something to do with love? Being a nihilist, I don't beleive in a sort of inherent purpose, and don't have any particular reason to choose one over another, so enjoying life seems a natural conclusion. Also, something to do with living a satisfactory/satisfying life (a little complicated)

Who are we to think we can decide our purpose when it's completely up to nature? Do you think you could actually know your purpose? How absurd!

I used to have goals but I change my mind so often that I never achieve them. Plus, I am a total perfectionist and set high goals that inspire procrastination.

My ultimate goal in life is to achieve omniscience; total understanding and knowledge of the entire universe. In order to achieve this goal, a sub-goal of mine is to achieve technological immortality as a cybernetic consciousness, with the capability to upgrade my cognitive processing capacity.

In other words, what lightlazer said.

My purpose is to create enough monetary wealth for myself to be able to help retire both my parents, help my brother and sister financially through life, have the financial capability to keep my future boyfriend with me at home (if he so chooses), and, once I am dead and gone, have the honor of giving my wealth away to charitable organizations that would help however many people possible with the wealth I created.

Right on.
I like to say: to help our species to evolve.
So far, the Universe has been throwing everything against the wall, whatever sticks moves on. The Universe finally became self aware and intelligent (us) and now things can also evolve by design.

I'm leaving behind delusions of grandeur and impractical dreams to focus on a mission I can feel invested in.

Actually, I still want to be the One and change the world, but I realize I'm not the only One, and I cannot function nor actually accomplish anything without other Ones. Relying only on myself left me pretty badly hurt. So I will be a One in a world of Ones.

I shall be one of the drops that make the sea.

... well, I'll probably be a physician.

Ideally, I want to be a proponent of justice, truth, freedom and higher ideals. I want to right the wrongs of injustice, to make people aware of the lies they have been forced to accept as the truth and to make people see that there is a better way to live.

I am still figuring out how I am going to do this.

To take my subjective reasoning, and somehow actualize it to confirm it's validity to objective reality.

In essence, to synthesize original and accurate facts.
