There's already a thread for genres. This one is for specific songs.

A friend of mine (one of the two with whom I discuss philosophy and other stuff on the bus) is too cheap to pay for songs and too morally scrupulous to pirate music, so he just listens to stuff he can find for free legitimately. This has the interesting result that many of the songs on his portable music player (a cheap iPod nano mimic) are video game songs.

Most of them I still haven't listened to, but here's one that I have:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64gdHNELMB0
That one is just the sound and a picture. The lyrics don't make much sense until you know something of the story, so here:
YouTube- Silver and Blaze Dreams of an Absolution
You could also look it up on Wikipedia.

Apparently, Still Alive by GLaDOS from Portal is good, but I haven't listened to that yet. Anyway, what songs do you people listen to?

Re: What music do you listen to?

I listen to anything that evokes nostalgic or emotional feelings. I like 80s pop/ rock.

But I mainly listen to Japanese music at the moment. There are some really great singers from Japan - I listen to Enka (country music), 70s-90s ballads, pop etc.

Also listen to 50s-60s Chinese/ Taiwanese songs.

I love video game and movie soundtracks. Hisaishi Jo and Sakamoto Ryuichi are awesome. Like bjork, David Bowie, Sade and heaps more that I can't think of at the moment.

Basically I don't get love songs. I like songs that are more about internal struggle , nostalgia etc.

Re: What music do you listen to?

Yes. Dreams of an Absolution is not really a love song (although parts of it probably are); it's the theme song for Silver the Hedgehog.

This one is more about internal conflict (but the lyrics make even less sense, and you may not like this type of music):

Re: What music do you listen to?

Monkey and Bear, by Joanna Newsom: A song about being yourself and shrugging off the impositions of others. She's fairly obscure (for the reasons that she plays a harp and sings in a high-pitched voice, most likely).

I also love this Chinese folk song I stumbled upon; and I think this is a nice cover of Wuthering Heights.

Re: What songs are you listening too?

My favorite album is "Blood on Ice" by Bathory. Concept albums can be pretty dodgy but this really works. My favorite song off it is either "The Woodwoman" or "Gods of Thunder,of Wind and of Rain", depending on the mood I'm in.

I mostly listen to my playlist of game music, occasionally some anime stuff, though I like 80s music as well as Rage Against the Machine, Pink Floyd, and what have you.

I'm a nerd, I know.

Been listening to the soundtrack to Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain. La Valse d'Amélie and Comptine d'Un Autre Eté - L'Après Midi are my favourites, so beautiful.

La Parade

I have been listening to this song on repeat for several days now. It caught my attention about a week ago while listening to some Yann Tiersen. The beginning piano line is an exact replica of a song I started writing when I was 12, which I have never been able to finish.

I'm all over the map here but here are some I have been really into lately:

Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones
A Wolf at the Door - Radiohead
The Beginning or the End of the Beginning.... - Smashing Pumpkins
Knockin' of Heaven's Door - Bob Dylan
One Too Many Mornings - The Chemical Brothers
Dirge - Death in Vegas
My Immortal - Evanescence
Hotel California - The Eagles
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Under Pressure - Queen

Maybe I am in a dark place?

Seventh Symphony, second movement, Allegretto, Beethoven. Best song ever. It is what it means to be me, and I listen to it all the time. I also like some songs that I hacked from my computer games (not very complicated hacking, mind you, but it's all I can manage). Currently, that happens to include the music from Civilization I, Civilization III.

Also, this strange, repeating song that I listen to when doing homework. It goes on, and on, and on, making me go insane, just like homework!!!.

Thanks for introducing me to Tim Minchin! I'd never heard of him but he is funny as hell.

Anybody else like AC/DC? I've been on an AC/DC kick. They rock (for Australians that is :D).

What about classic rock in general? I love classic rock. Is that abnormal for an INTP?

Nope, I've always been a big classic rock fan. Its not my favorite genre, but its my standby. Fortunately most cities have access to a classic rock station so I can get away from the pop garbage.

I need to find an all funk station... you think there might be one on XM?

i like the song Hells Bells by AC/DC. and i really like classic rock when i'm working (its usually what we have on the radio while we work) but for some reason i can't just sit down and listen to it on my own.

YouTube- Joshua Radin - Winter

found this in an episode of Scrubs last night. I'm not sure if it's really that awesome, or if it's just bringing up memories of the episode (which was awesome), but I thought it was pretty sweet.

That has a nice sound to it. I may have to download it.

I love music of all kinds (except country for some reason).

A while back Dissident posted a thing about Radiohead and now I am hooked. I love the song "Let Down" but I couldn't understand the lyrics so I looked them up. Wow! It really speaks to me for some reason. I love the part where he says "One day, I am gonna to grow wings". If only I could.

Ok this is the right thread for this post :D.

Alright, here are some of the songs I listen to depending on the mood. I almost never like all the music of any one artist so I've listed individual song titles with links to youtube.

Casual Music

Can't Stop (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Scar Tissue (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Snow (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Welcome to My Life (3 Doors Down)
How to Save a Life (The Fray)

Adrenaline Music

Headstrong (Trapt)
Diary of Jane (Breaking Benjamin)
The Sound of Truth (As I Lay Dying)
Only One (Yellowcard)
Ichirin no Hana (HIGH and MIGHTY COLORS)

Soothing Music

Kiss the Rain (Yiruma)
Rivers Flow In You (Yiruma)
Love Me (Yiruma)
Dearest (Ayumi Hamazaki)
Every Heart (BoA)
Gomenasai (Tatu)

I particularly like this music video to Diary of Jane ^. Dang, now every time I see "L" I think of Cryptonia!

(hmmm... am I the only one who listens to this kind of music?)

***

I really enjoy nature sounds also. I can listen to a CD with nothing but a an oriental flute playing and a waterfall in the background all day.

I think you have to get an account to listen to it, but Imeem is a good music site. I promise.
The playlist took me almost an hour to put together, 'cause I tried to keep a sort of...flowing sense through the different songs. No jumping from angsty to happy. (And yes, it starts angst-ish, but there are only a few songs like that.) I'm so nice.
...I'm also too lazy to list out everything that's on there. Deal.

NoiD;;
Radiohead used to be my favorite band of all time. My sister and I would sit for hours just listening to them when I was younger. I still like them, but I listened to the songs too much. ):
My favorites by them are still Pyramid Song, Bulletproof...I Wish I Was, and Wolf At The Door.

Auburn;;
I like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yellowcard is okay, and I think I've heard of The Fray (I can't remember if I like them or not), but I've never heard of the others. I'll have to listen to them. (:

I listen to a lot of Reggae, such as: Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Dekkar, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, and the Maytals.

I also listen to a lot of punk, such as: The Misfits, Bad Brains, Rancid, Operation Ivy, The Casualties, The Clash, Leftover Crack and Choking victim.
And I listen to the last two when I am mad at the world. Anyone else?
