I love that song, but it was even better live on the Time Machine Tour with the Polka intro.

Yeah it was pretty awesome. Only got to see them once last year, sadly it was outdoors at the MN state fair so that meant less fans and more dumb asses. Still was a great show since we were center stage like row 8 or 9 and it was Alex's b-day.

I've never heard Katatonia, but I'm seeing them live with Opeth next month. What's a good album to start with?
Me too, in October.

Katatonia IMO has only gotten progressively better with time, so I recommend the newest one, Night is the New Day. It's addictive as shit. Or the one before it, The Great Cold Distance, is a good one too, a lil heavier.

I saw them live last year and they played alot from both those albums, so that's your best bet.

I am excited for new Opeth though, Wasnt sure about this song at first but it is pretty groovy, and I am a big sucker for 70's sound(love organs).

I think Friedrich Nietzsche would like it. :twisteddevil: ‪Opeth - The Devil's Orchard‬‏ - YouTube

OMG KATATONIA IS MY FAVORITE BAND EVER :storks:
They are in my top 3 for sure. They are the best songwriters in metal IMO.It takes a really high level of talent to consistently write amazing songs in verse/chorus/verse/chorus structures, especially in metal.

I found them by accident in 06. It was my Death Metal stage, and I MEANT to pick up a Kataklysm cd, but came home with Katatonia's Last Fair Deal album. Best mistake I ever made, that album blew me away.

Here are some songs with Jonas Renkse singing if you havent heard them yet.

He's in Ayreon so he must be awesome. Ayreon opened me up to Devin Townsend and Pain of Salvation so I fucking love Arjen for that.
The Devil's Orchard is amazing. It took several listens before it was really good to me.

Arjen is amazing. If I recall I think he selected Jonas for that album because "TGCD was definitely my album of the year when it was released."

Must be doing something right if Arjen loves you.

Peeps youre going to see them live? :0 TAKE ME WITH YOU

Panopticon, Jonas Renkse has an amazing voice. I actually like Katatonia's old stuff as well, but yes I totally agree they have so much talent writing. I found them back in 06 too I think, and I have been addicted since. I still remember the first song I listened to of their's was "July"..

Amazing song. The song-writing/music-fusion of everything they write is just pure genius.

I just bought Night is the New Day. Some of the vocals remind me of Mikael Akerfeldt's clean voice. I'm really liking this Cd. Yet another band has been added to my list of bands that I obsess over and annoy my friends by talking about constantly.

Peeps youre going to see them live? :0 TAKE ME WITH YOU
If you really want to hang out with a bunch of nerdy high school kids than be my guest. It would be wise to reconsider what you just volunteered for lmao.

^Awesome, glad you liked it. Mikael and Jonas have been best pals for years, so the similarities are bound to be there.

Mikael did growls on Katatonia's 2nd album Brave Murder Day and a follow up EP Sounds of Decay(After Jonas decided screaming vocals werent his thing), after that Katatonia went from doom metal to the more "gothic" approach we have today. I agree with xbox that all their stuff new and old are great.

I think alot of people are going to this tour with their fingers crossed hoping to hear some old Katatonia material with Akerfeldt....well see. OR maybe even a Bloodbath song? Either one would be epic.

Yeah, it's just too bad they never play live ever. I think they have done 5 shows all together.

Another band I regret never seeing live is ISIS(RIP supposedly). This song is responsible for me using Panopticon as an SN. ‪Isis - Panopticon - 1 - So Did We‬‏ - YouTube Isis is good thinking music....just listen to 3:40 on....it makes the mind drift into space. Love it.

Wow. This is some grade A material. Cheers!
Cheers! :) I picked out a few more for ya.

I dub thee one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. EVER.
‪Agalloch - In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion‬‏ - YouTube

Through vast valleys I wonder
To the highest peaks
On pathways through a wild forgotten landscape
In search of God, in spite of man
'til the lost forsaken endless. . .
This is where I choose to tread

Fall. . .so shall we fall into the nihil?
The nothingness that we feel in the arms of the pale
In the shadow of the grim companion who walks with us

Here is the landscape
Here is the sun
Here in the balance of the earth
Where is the god?
Has he fallen and abandoned us?

As I'm stalked by the shadow of death's hand
The fire in my heart is forged across the land

Here at the edge of this world
Here I gaze at a pantheon of oak, a citadel of stone
If this grand panorama before me is what you call God. . .
Then God is not dead

I walked down to a river and sat in reflection of what had to be done
An offering of crimson flowed into the water below
A wound of spirit from which it floated and faded away

. . .like every hope I've ever had. . .
. . .like every dream I've ever known. . .
It washed away in a tide of longing, a longing for a better world
From my will, my throat, to the river, and into the sea. . .
. . .wash away. . .
. . .fade away. . .

Here is the landscape
Here is the sun
Here at the edge of the earth
Where is the god?
Has he fallen to ruin?

As I'm stalked by the shadow of death's hand
My heathen pride is scarred across the land

WALK WITH ME! There are worlds to see!

Listen to me now – you
Listen to me now – you
Do my words mean more to hear
When I am standing here?
On a stage like all your silly idols do
Open up your eyes – all
Let your walls and grins fall
Would you reach for something new?
If the crowds were reaching too?
Are you close enough to taste their tears at all?

Your hate is but a worn-out lover, sick and sear
“RAPE ME AGAIN!” you beg in pain, dear friend
“but hey – just don’t stop! The stillness makes me scared”

Listen to my plain words
That’s all you’ll get from me: Words
The rest is up to you
Would you dare to let me through?
Are you brave enough to leave me in control?

…you’re all afraid…

I’m not afraid, I’m not afraid of you
I’m not afraid, I’m not afraid anymore
I am a shipwrecked swept ashore

Life won’t wash away your sins
Life can’t wash away your guilt
Life will only make your conscience… wilt

Somewhere a child just died
Yet another victim for man’s endless strife
World could be better than this
There are so many ways to live (leave) a life
Would you claim you live yours…right?
Right?!
NO!

TAKE A STAND! World is in your hand!

I’m not afraid, I’m not afraid of you!
I’m not afraid, I’m not afraid of you!
We’re just the same me and you
The same me and you
(Walk with me!)

…I see myself in you…

Stoner, Grunge and Surf lately.

The Beggars Banquet stuff is cool but does it compare to Jagger's later work?
Not sure, that was pretty...eccentric.
