What about when referring to an infant or quoting natural speech, as opposed to addressing some supposed sweetheart?

Singer/songwriters, other indie artists (or ones that were previously unknown, like sufjan) and a cappella stuff are such a huge chunk of mine... but none of them are even in the poll.

Then a song entitled "Baby Birch" with the line "Be at peace, baby, and begone" repeated four times is acceptable, while a song that begins with the line "Babeh, babeh, babeh" is not? :p

But what if it's a song about babies? (There have been some, such as Devin Townsend's 'Babysong'. Which is surprisingly pretty good, though the rest of the album is, IMO, better.)

Um musical tastes!

I like different genres of music all over, and more specifically, I like technical music of most types. I didn't like rap music at first before I heard Outkast and Cex who actually do it pretty well, and now I have a respect for many of those people, especially since it pulled me over to Drum 'n Bass which has some sweet harmonic tunes with underlying bass beats. All sorts of electronic music have I come to appreciate. Rock, Metal, Punk, Classical, Funk, Jazz, generally with exception to most Pop music, there's always something good to listen to in a genre. Recently I've been diving into chiptunes, and monotonik and 8bitpeoples have been flooding my playlist.

I am quite obsessive/fanatical with my favourite music. My favourites are:

Héroes del Silencio
Enrique Bunbury
Siouxsie & the Banshees
Dead can dance
Epica
Elis
Lacrimosa
Tristania
Macbeth

I wanted to post this in the other thread about favourite music but it disappeared after being posted @__@ So I'm coming to here instead @_@

So what do people think of Brian Eno's ambient music?

http://fora.tv/2006/06/26/Will_Wright_and_Brian_Eno

I listen to the song "An Ending (Ascent)" over and over along with a few others. There is something about it that almost makes me feel like I am out of my body. I really like ambient music but I never know which ones are best.

Along with "An Ending (Ascent)" I also have these in a playlist together that I listen to over and over again (among others):

Deep Blue Day - Brian Eno
23 Lies - Death in Vegas
Dirge - Death in Vegas
La Mer - NIN
God Moving over the Face of the Waters - Moby
My Weakness - Moby

Also, I really dislike country music, but it is the only genre I strongly dislike. I noticed it is the lowest on the poll. Is it typically objectionable to INTP ears, and if so why? Maybe it just doesn't get much play outside of the US.

hip hop doesn't seem to be too big among INTP's either. its my music of choice, i wonder if thats more of a culture thing, though. i don't much like country music, but i'd say i have respect for it as an art moreso then mainstream hip hop (aka R&B) or pop music.

hip hop and country are similar in a lot ways. they both use a relatively simple rythm/ rhyme scheme (although i'm into more complex sounding hip hop then most people here have probably heard) and they both talk about where they're from a lot.

I tend to like post-punk and punk fusions. I really like the energy and attitude of punk, but as a genre by itself, it's way too simplistic. Post-punk, though-- Gang of Four, The Slits, The Pop Group, Talking Heads, Joy Division (if I'm feeling depressed)-- is really interesting. So are fusions: Gogol Bordello (gypsy punk), James Chance and the Contortions (jazz punk), Mano Negra, Manu Chao, Balkan Beat Box, DJ Shantel...

And yeah... Also not a fan of country or mainstream hip hop, but am okay with more complex hip hop (I have a friend who really likes it, and I do too, although not to the same extent). People tell me I'm a snob because I actually kind of detest country, but I can hardly help it...

I have a very hard time finding music I enjoy. For this reason, I tend to listen to a lot of the same songs over and over. I recently purged my entire ipod and loaded it with every Yann Tiersen song I could get my hands on. http://www.last.fm/music/Yann+Tiersen

I cannot say I have a specific genre that I enjoy. I could probably find something to listen to in most genres, but I tend to stick with instrumental... anything without lyrics, preferably piano and violin combinations.

I'm back going to see them now... Are you from Argentina Dissident? I also know from there the band Rata Blanca, but by them I've heard only two songs. And I also really like the song Mariposa Technicolor by Fito Páez but after hearing some more (it was one of the newer albums I think) I didn't enjoy them so much.

Big Punk Rock Fan (have been since age 5)
Metal(Particularly extreme forms, but must have some melody)
Prog rock/Metal and experimental stuff
Some Classical/soundtrack work

overall relativly typical of most INTP's (judging by this forum and that INTP's have interesting and eclectic tastes anyway)

Only folk music is behind hip-hop?
**** pop music and trance or tecno and all of that simple ****. But why is hip-hop here almost the last? Hip-hop is not 50 cent of eminem only. There is a difference between hip-pop and hip-hop, and much do not know about it.

It's bigger than religion...hip-hop (Erykah Badu - The Healer)

Meh, same for me. But I also dislike most of the "popular" music in slovenia. The dread.

Just realised that Dream Theaters Systematic Chaos is not only the best DM album, but the second best prog metal album. behind Opeth Ghost Reveries and just ahead of Symphony x Divine Wings Of Tragedy

Really? I'm still more a fan of the older Dream Theater albums. Don't get me wrong, I really like some of the songs on Systematic Chaos, but as a whole, it seems kind of unorganized. My favorite DT albums are

Awake
Images and Words
Scenes From a Memory
Systematic Chaos
Train of Thought
Octavarium
6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Falling into infinity

Mind you, these are all closely tied and this is only studio albums.

I never really 'got' Awake for some reason. Sure it's good but it's not...

I'd place Images & Words and Scenes From a Memory on top of my list. And also, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence if I could exclude the second disc, which sucks.
The best recent DT effort is Octavarium, in my opinion.

I would say that Octavarium is one of DT's worst efforts (apart from the title song). Awake is one of the hardest DT albums to get into, but one of the most rewarding I find. What on earth do you find wrong with Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (the song)?

What do you mean by 'DM album'? And check out SFAM and Awake...

A band I've recently discovered is Elend, a neoclassical / dark ambient band. I've been liking their first album, Leçons de Ténèbres, quite a lot, although I've only heard their first three albums so far.
