Commonly, INTPs have few and/or similarly fashioned clothing that they wear on repeat. What did you pick and why?

For a few years I wore another school's uniform to a school that didn't have any uniforms requirements. Black skirt and white blouse. Professional, simple, clean.

Then I started traveling and I made three dresses out of merino wool. One to wash, one to wear and one to be ready type of deal. Merino is the shit too because it dries incredibly quickly, doesn't wrinkle, doesn't hold smell, etc etc... Plus the dresses could go for hiking/camping to a slightly dressy affair very very easily.

Now I'm in a new phase of life and I wear jean shorts pretty much every day and swim suit. It's not fancy but I never go to fancy things. I live at the beach but with the suit/shorts combo I can pretty much wear it where ever and always be up for a swim even if I just thought of it on my way home from the library.

What about you guys? have you found any piece of clothing to be suited to your life?

Currently wearing black leather slip on shoes, brown chino pants and a navy blue short sleeved collared shirt, this is my typical attire. In hot weather I'll wear thongs (what Americans call flip-flops), shorts that go past the knee and a microfibre shirt, sometimes collared, sometimes a t-shirt, never sleeveles, I may wear long sleeves if I expect to be in the sun for a while.

I also have a pair of long cotton-canvas work pants with inserts for foam knee pads, steel cap boots and long sleeved work shirts made of some sort of rip-stop fire retardant fabric, this is my safety gear. I want to get some forge boots, welding gloves, elbow length rubber insulating gloves and a lexan face shield because I doubt my cheapshit safety goggles are really that safe.

I like to tinker.

Commonly, INTPs have few and/or similarly fashioned clothing that they wear on repeat. What did you pick and why?

5 pairs of Wrangler carpenter pants, bought at Walmart. They were inexpensive, maybe $18 each. That's not the cheapest you can go for jeans, but the $10 jeans only last so long. Wrangler was making claims about having stronger seams and cloth. I think I've had 'em a year and they haven't torn up yet, so far so good. Chose the relaxed fit in case I need to kick someone upside the head.

1 pair sandals with those stretchy strings you pull to tighten them. They were $6 on a closeout rack at Kohl's. I would have paid the $18 the sticker said on them, didn't realize they were 1/3 of that. Those are my "warm weather" shoes. You can get quite far into Fall with only a pair of socks added. Unfortunately these things don't tend to last. 4 months later, the soles are already developing the holes that suck up rain water as you walk. Definitely have gotten my $6 worth though. I was literally in pain with my previous pair, I'd let them go pretty long. Kept looking for a killer deal on shoes and not finding one.

1 pair boots from Walmart. Winter was in progress and those sandals were getting desperately cold. Not sure if the foot cushioning will hold up over time, but when I spent that $30, I was definitely happy to have warm feet!

I went looking again today for a "Fall weight" shoe, something less heavy than my boots. However, stores still don't want to give that stuff away. Maybe an Easter sale?

1 colorful sweater that more than 1 person has wanted to buy off my back. "Tundra" by Norm Thompson. Hand-me-down from my Dad. Looks like they are findable online, I'll have to tell the next person who wants mine.

b48-vintage-norm-thompson-tundra-l-large-mercerized-cotton-textured-sweater-a2e6154f3a8d6197ac7d02bacada72d2.jpg

1 black hat, 100% polyester, material like a fleece, bought at Steinmart for $7. Had previously gotten $1 hats from Goodwill, but they proved inadequate. Too many holes from hand stitching. Brand new black hats can be had for $2 various places, but I slightly upscaled the genre a bit. It is still merely a black hat and it was a matter of convenience / fulfilling a winter need that drove the purchase. I don't have the cash for the $30..$40 hats that appear at Mast General Store and the like.

A stupendous quantity of black cotton socks, all the same, that my Mom gave me. I had other socks, especially warmer ones of either wool or acrylic. I didn't think much of cotton; however, these do a much better job of keeping me from getting athlete's foot. So now it has to be really cold before I go to the warm socks.

1 black wool coat, bought at the local Dillard's Outlet store. Retail $150 paid $50. Looks more like something people would wear "up north". I'm done with REI / camping / puffy style gear. Ok there's some non-puffy gear but it's helluh expensive. Basically I'm not believing in synthetics for warmth lately, I'm going wool. Had it a year now and it has proven its worth. Was much warmer than the ancient black leather jacket it replaced. That one was falling apart and smelled bad, couldn't cure it with borax wash....

i like to be creative with my appearance, and fit it to my aesthetics more than to cultural expectations. i dress in kind of a hipster/emo style, sometimes with an Asian flair. black leggings or striped knee-highs with shorts or skirts, black boots or my converse tennies, flowy tunic tops, long cardigans, etc. lots of black, stripes or moon/star art on everything. one of my favorite things to wear is a long-sleeved shirt that covers my hands. there's just something that feels so safe/concealed about that :)

I cast aluminum, it's possible to melt metal with nothing more than a crucible and blowtorch but it's inefficient and laborious. Still it's cheaper to do lost wax casting than to hire a machinist to make my parts for me.

black turtlenecks, black skinny jeans, and doc martens... black hair dye, and a gold chain over it all. I might put on a baggy black sweatshirt or oversized bomber jacket if it's chilly.

I like to look intense.

Usually quite casual - all black.

I do have a crapload of "silly" t-shirts though.... from my mother. I think she wants me to be more, "lively" I guess the word is? I will wear them on occasion, but leave them covered with a jacket or hoodie.

Outside of work, I usually wear tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt and a jacket if it's spring/autumn or hoodie if it's winter and trainers (that's British for sneakers) - usually in black/blue/white, and some items have hints of red logos. That's pretty much me. I do own some jeans, but can't fit my thighs in them anymore so I have one fairly baggy pair I can wear but would rather the combats for special occasions.

People have occasionally tried to buy me smarter clothes for Christmas or birthdays in an attempt to smarten me up. It doesn't work and I just leave them at the back of the wardrobe to decompose.

You broke my brain. Jesus H.

Slob mode: shitty old jeans or jogging pants with an old jumper or hoodie.

Casual: jeans and a decent shirt or jumper; usually couple with 'dress' shoes but on rare occasions will allow myself to slide and wear casual shoes.

Smart/Professional (preferred) shirt and trousers. Nice shoes. Usually do not bother with a tie and have two buttons undone, because I'm secretly a rebel.

On Sundays: the skin of my flayed enemies.

Monday - Friday: boots, jeans, t-shirt, hoodie, cap, glasses.

On Saturday I'm nekkid, flaying my enemies and preparing their skin to be worn on Sunday.

No! Not un-matching socks! I may not have ironed my shirt and have no tie simply because I didn't wash the one that matches this shirt, but I will be late before I wear none matched socks.

(Well, I'll probably be late anyway TBH)

Black jeans, chinos(I have many different colors), fleece vests(I have an assortment of colors) when it's warmer, and a hoodie when it's colder. Underneath I just wear a bunch of different t shirts I have. Sometimes I mix it up, but it's usually just that.

I've heard a fellow intp say that black leads people into assumptions... (?) but if you wear dark blue all the time people still think you are normal but you don't have to think about what you wear.

It made me laugh anyways.

This is exactly the logic I used when getting dressed this morning. Dark blue trackies and dark blue t-shirt.

(If Auburn is reading this - see, not a slothenly overweight cat )

In answer to your original question - this way fits my life well. Since it's almost impossible to find jeans with 25inch thighs and 32 inch waste - they're just not an option. I don't have to change to hit the gym later or run around the park with the kids. Plus, it's comfortable. And there's a discount sports store nearby where i can periodically refill my wardrobe for next to nothing. Serves all my needs except for the half dozen special occasions a year where i need to dress a little smarter. In which case - I keep maybe 2 outfits that suffice.

but unmatching socks can be cute :3

Lol. Would be entertaining. It's actually somewhat a cross between Ioan Gruffudd and Anthony Head (i think).

My metal image is something akin to a dark haired Alyson Hannigan (definitely the same voice).

Until I was given a pile of new socks, I had a lot of old unmatched socks. However, they were all either black or very dark blue, with no patterns on them. That was deliberate on my part. It would take a fair amount of studiousness for someone to notice my socks, strictly speaking, did not match. Eventually they all got holes and went through attrition. They were all sort of thin dress socks, and I never put them to thin dress use.

This is only because you live in Asheville; you know this right?

No I don't. The guy who wanted to buy it was at a Walmart in Pensacola FL. The sweater is UNIVERSAL. :-)

Mom recalls buying the sweater for my Dad in the early 90s, making it ~25 years old. It has held up well, especially with a lot of recent real world "field use".

I have a limited wardrobe consisting of:
2 pairs of trousers; half a dozen long sleeve, button down shirts; a couple of black T-Shirts; a pair of shorts; 1 pair of brown leather boots with matching belt, 1 pair of joggers; one pair of thongs/flip-flops; lots of underwear/socks; a peacoat; a goose down vest; gym clothes; a scarf; a beanie; lounge pants; a hoodie; and an automatic watch.

Also, one well-fitting, navy-coloured Super 130s wool suit, a French cuffed shirt (with cufflinks), and no tie.

The key though, is that all colours and patterns have been carefully chosen in a way that everything is colourful and slightly eccentric (unusual colours, unusual colllars, etc), but everything matches with everything else. The reason for this is that I'm NOT a morning person, and I just want to be able to blindly pull on anything and have it work without fail.

The foolproof-ness is very liberating. I'm never faced with any decisions.

Anything that is no longer serving a purpose is given to charity. That's if I don't wear it until the end of ts life first.

Jeans jeans and more jeans; also sweatpants and sports shorts for when it gets really hot out. Also a T-shirt with some kind of logo about something I like, but I am impartial to a plain black T as well. I think I own like a single plain white T. I have lots of hoodies - enough to last me a month if I can get away with wearing them more than once before wash (that should put me in the 10-12 hoodies category right?). I wear different shoes depending on the day. Sometimes its boots like dr. martins or merrells, sometimes nikes.

I typically keep the same clothing for a fucking long time. I haven't bought new clothes in quite a while (prolly been years since I bought a pair of jeans).

I dress to be comfortable. I don't at all keep up with the latest trends or anything like that.

Colors I will NEVER wear are:

pink
yellow
fuchsia
orange
baby poo colors (yellow-green/puke green)

I own the most black out of anything, with grey as a somewhat distant second. Prolly half my jeans are black. The other half is made up of different shades of blue and grey.

At work: everyday is casual friday

At first it wasn't deliberate. Now it very much is. When I wear pop-culture items to work I accrue nicknames like "superman" and "masterchief". Feelsgood.

I mostly wear solid black sweatpants and whatever random shirts I have. Since I'm exercising a lot lately and wear motorcycle over pants it's the easiest option. I would kinda like those sweatpants that are designed to look like suit pants though. That would be nice.

Obviously suit pants and stuff for work.

I wear robes to bed and would love to wear them more in public but I can't find many that are designed for that.

Or you know dresses would be cool. Pun intended.

In Portland, Oregon, you would look like an anarchist who is intent on smashing up corporate store windows, such as The Gap or Bank of America.

XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD OMG
i mean, to be honest, it's funny cuz you don't usually see people dressing like that and you have to get used to people looking at you like wtf
your clothes can pass for a custome of a dark souls game, each piece gives u a certain adventage, like more resistance, more flexibility, etc as if you were ready to war, but my first impression is that you are about dexterity, perhaps a sorcerer and high persuasive skills, you hang out with rats, steal stuff, lie to people to get what u want from them, maybe you can camouflage, you can also run fast and walk on walls
this is all objective stuff
but i like it, and you should keep dressing the way you like
fuck them

I wear leather boat shoes or running shoes, sweatpants or jeans, and a random color t-shirt with a hawaiian shirt (i always need the hawaiian shirt) and a hoodie over that in the winter.
I go mainly for comfort, but i add the hawaiian shirt because it's cool and has pretty colors.

Its always been Lands End because I like the super soft pima cotton, OR Tencil the most.

My shoes are usually sandals, the brand is Ecco (Danish comfort shoes), or Olukai comfort thongs.
I have a closet full of Lands End clothes and Ecco shoes and sandals and I have every color of every kind of top, pant, skirt, shorts, capri, dresses, sweaters, cardigans, polo, t shirt, swimsuits, pjs, nightgowns, I am a lands end freak shopper.
