2001 Chrysler Grand Caravan. I chose it because:

A) I like its flexibility. It can comfortably transport 7 people, or with the removable rear seats removed it can carry a lot of cargo.

B) I have two kids that need to be ferried around, and I prefer their noisy, smelly selves to be as far away from me as possible when in an enclosed space.

My first car was an Alfa Romeo 147 - 1.6L Petrol, 120bhp. It sounded incredible for a 1.6L. Easily my favourite car.

My second car was a huge Mazda 6 (the new shape). 2L petrol @ ~ 150bhp. Fairly nippy, but a little 'too' precise in the corners, if you get me.

My third (and current) car is a new shape 1.6 Turbo Diesel Fiesta (90bhp, woo!) because I got sick of forking out literally hundreds of pounds a month on fuel in the Mazda. It's actually a very fun little car to drive - I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap runaround.

I *nearly* had an Alfa Romeo Brera (2.4L Turbo Diesel @ 210bhp) for my second car. Alas, the UK was out to shaft me again - the best quote I got on insurance was £3,500

To be fair, I was only 25 at the time. But yeah; in the UK, you're EXTREMELY limited as a younger driver. Anything remotely 'sporty' will cost you an arm and a leg. Unless you have an extremely good income, you have to ride it out until you get into your mid thirties.

How much does a liter of fuel cost in the UK? Right now in Mexico it's at 9 pesos (about .70 cents USD, or $3.40 a gallon).

1993 Cutlass Ciera w/3.3 V6/auto

Pros
-Able to buy cheap even while massively overpaying ($2500 with 53k miles)
-Arguably the most reliable power train that GM ever put in a car on top of the low grandma miles; has been proven with my 27k+ miles I've driven in the past 1.3 years to be extraordinarily reliable
-Comfort+AC+moderately decent MPG for my what was then large amount of driving
-Cheap insurance
-Cheap repairs
-Most rubber stuff looked new
-Looks good from a distance

Cons-
-Interior is extremely outdated (designed in the very early 80s), along with absolutely pathetic quality
-Handling is a complete joke, though it would be downright dangerous if it was like my dad's with shot struts
-Stereo system is completely laughable
-Smells funky thanks to pizza delivery
-Water spots on paint that I don't know how to get out
-exhaust leak

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied in spite of overpaying by at least $700. I desperately needed a comfortable and reliable car, and it still fills that need.

If money wasn't that big of an issue, I'd probably like an older Lexus IS or GS series car if I could have just one vehicle. I've also been wanting a Miata for a long time, but almost all of my driving is now highway miles, which would defeat the purpose of the car.

@PmjPmj Mazda6s are good cars. I think we get them with engines ranging from 2.3-3.0 in the states (depending on year and which chosen); I think I can safely say that all of those engines are considered to be on the smaller side for here, well, definitely the 2.3 anyways.

Mine's a bit more beat up from doing field work though, so add some scratches to the sides and a big dent on the left rear bumper from my undergrad professor's neighbor's mailbox, less shiny rims and I think that about covers it.

Decent gas mileage, I can transport a lot of junk, and I can navigate the snow.

Rangers are probably the best American small trucks (although they do range significantly in size and power). There's nothing difficult about them.

edit: just saw the Mustang pic. They're great if you want to just drive in a straight line They're not hard to drive; they're just an average size car here. We've got big open spaces and relatively cheap gas.

I actually don't really have a color preference, but my dad's a mechanic and has auction connections to buy stuff at prices paid by used car dealers, e.g. that Mustang cost me $1500, $600 of which was for new air bags . I just take what I can get.

£1.40 at the moment, which is $2.26 (apparently).

The Mazda had a 64 litre tank, so it was costing roughly £80 - £90 ($129 - $145) each fuel up. Typically, I had to fuel up every week or so. Sometimes twice a week if I had to drive further afield. If I got 250 miles out of a full tank, I was doing very bloody well!

So yeah - it had to go


In contrast, I stick £45 into the Fiesta every 2½ - 3 weeks

It was long ago, at least no one tried to steal it. Once I left it with the keys in the door in full view on quite busy street for approx. 2 hours, and I found it where I left it. Nobody attempted a joyride.

Perhaps I would mind less the conspicuousness of red with Mustang.

In fact i quite like red (red &black) on sports bikes. Once for a short spell I wanted to ride a bike. But it was only a brief interest. I know interest in motorcycles is closer to ISTP, but I'm curious if there are any bikers among INTP's and their preferences. I have the mild sort of enthusiasm for sports bikes.

I had a 2002 Honda Civic, but an irresponsible young lady decided that even though a traffic light had turned red, she would ignore that and go even faster. I had a green turn signal, as inched out into traffic, she took off the front end of my civic, a couple of paramedics said had she been 1 or 2 seconds later, she would have likely killed me. So I will forever drive something more substantial, plus I love having all the room and ability to move things around, and I hate the environment so it covers all my bases.
