What comforts, leisurely things would you like to ideally acquire/maintain? If you want to just list material possessions that's fine, but I'm emphasizing general living conditions.

Me:

A smallish house in one of the drier and rockier parts of Texas surrounded by orange plateaus and 1 foot tall golden grass. It'd be in the country but a comfortable driving distance from a small town and equidistant to a larger city. The house would have optimal internet connection and have a small library room filled with interesting books. I'd open an experimental pastry/sandwich shop in the small town and I'd hang around at the library in the larger city with people who like to participate in whispering debates and generally interesting conversation. The house wouldn't be 2 story, but one room (I think this will be where the library would be) kind of rises a foot with tiny cliche wooden steps. 3/5 of the walls would be thick glass giving a nice view of the aforementioned view (I guess the other 5ths would be covered with bookshelves). Friends would occasionally come over and play mario kart/party(one of the older ones) or whatever on my smallish TV (It's smallish and lowish res so I don't fall into the habit of watching TV instead of doing something more fulfilling).

*sigh*

Anyways, what about y'all (TX joke ha)?

It doesn't have to be physical conditions per se, but something that is ideal.

OH! It'd also have a good sized shed with tools for inventing and what-not (like the mythbusters warehouse, but it wouldn't be the size of a small city like that one is).

Cool thread. Got me thinking which is good because I'm still young. I would love to live somewhere with a lot of natural beauty and biking trails... Might have to get back to you later for the rest sorry for leaving you hanging.

Small dwelling with a view, a hearth, an Eames lounge chair and a nice kitchen. Plenty of books. Oh, and my work. That is all I want in life. A partner would be nice too.

I like your user name btw; I love minimalism in usernames. I wish I had chosen something with less than 4 syllables, something concise.

Anyhoo, that sounds lovely.

Either in/as modular quantum field calculation device(s) somewhere around a relatively young middle sized star

OR

if/when possible some similar type of habitat in the higher dimensions- I hate the idea of being undone by entropy.

Are the lower dimensions not posh enough for you? I'll have you know people of ziggledink-2C are quite pleasant, although you can never really tell where to look when they speak.

Now mine sounds SO boring. Look what you did.

Steampunk themed castle on my own private island with steampunk everything. It'll be so hardcore steampunk that every appliance will be literally running on steam. Toilet will be made of 24ct gold. My marijuana garden will have little gnomes in circles passing bongs. I'll also own a friggin Lion to eat anyone who comes to visit. My bathtub tap will be connected to a water tank filled with the tears of virgins. My toilet paper will be rolls of money. I would have a dungeon filled with fake corpses made to look exactly like real ones. I would have a goddamn imax movie room for watching porn.

And whatever the hell else I can think of. Basically I want my habitat to be full of interesting things, and as many of them as possible.

I want to go there :D

Personally I've got several ideas.

Akihabara Penthouse
Think of the Stark building from Avengers, in Tokyo Akihabara, the lower floors are a robotics department store, above is a machine shop and other prototyping equipment, beneath ground floor there's a dingy bar, the highest floors are a mansion I live in along with whoever I deem welcome to stay as guests.

Medieval Farmstead
I could be happy working the fields, tending to animals, forging my own tools and generally living the simple life, doing the whole wife and kids thing, then die in battle to keep my homeland safe or just wither away with age. I recognize that everything I love about technology is based in a kind of mental illness, essentially I aspire to be an immortal transhuman because I'm a failure of a human being, wealth and power are more important to me than happiness because my mind has lost touch with my body, it's a sour grapes thing.

Virtual Reality
Far enough down the tech track and I'll have enough electrodes in my brain to reconfigure how its mechanisms work, after that my desired lifestyle will be whatever I deem most practical, I'll probably end up working in some administrative role and utterly consumed by it, living as infrastructure, it would be paradise even though it sounds like hell.

It would be a glorious land free from the tyranny of SJs.

All joking aside, I'd like to live in a Chinese city, maybe 西安 (Xi'an) or 上海 (Shanghai). I'd choose a Chinese city for two reasons. The first reason is because I'm learning Chinese and would really love to learn more of the language. The second reason is because living in Chinese cities is incredibly inexpensive, probably half the price of living in an average American city. I'd live in a nice apartment, nothing luxury, but not trashy either. I'd have a bed, a small bookcase, decent Internet, and would live right near a lot of restaurants. As most things in China are, dining out is pretty inexpensive. I could eat out nearly every day of the weak with no financial concerns. It may seem unusual for an introvert to want to live in a city, with so many people, but I enjoy the anonyminity of not knowing anybody. I'd love to have enough time to pursue my interests and hobbies, but not so much that I just waste time and decompose in front of my computer. I'd also like to have enough money to pursue my interests comfortably, but I'm not interested in material possessions or just having money to be rich. I might start a business, maybe a small restaurant or coffee shop. Also, I'd soundproof my room probably. That way I could escape the noise of the city and read/sleep/think comfortably. More generally, I'd like a life with very little involuntary structure. I don't mind structure that I impose upon myself to acheive goals and whatnot, but when others start imposing structure upon me, taking away my independence, or telling me how to live, I become unhappy and even depressed sometimes.

Beach house preferably on a hill in C. America, S.E Asia, or anywhere tropical but not so developed. Runaway with jet to go wherever. Clean and elegant furnished rooms, something to connect to internet, and huge library with books, maps, and music collections that would take around two lifetimes to consume. Pretty much that and I would be good.

All 3 sound nice, I'd like those as well.

All of these are making mine sound so unambitious :)

Sounds nice too. I've thought about China. I'd have to do a ton of research before I considered it though.

Noice.

If I had precisely one life time worth of entertainment/reading I'd get nervous when I started running out of things. More than that is optimal.

Really? I lived in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Kunming for 3 years. Also visited Xian, Chengdu, Tianjin, Urumqi, Lhasa, Suzhou, HK, Hainan, and many others. It is inexpensive...in the 2nd and 3rd tier cities. Shanghai is like NYC. It's also incredibly polluted. Living in Beijing requires heavy duty indoor air purifiers. Having a career there is difficult. Doubly so for an INTP. You need to be very entrepreneurial and social. Better start greasing the wheels with the government bureau-bums. I have an ENTJ friend in Kunming. He's doing well. I could never pull off what he does.:twisteddevil: You'll never be Chinese as long as you live. You'll never be one of them...and never, ever trust a Chinese national with your money. For that matter, you have to look long and hard to find pure, unpolluted food/ingredients. Eating out is not a good idea long term because everyone's cutting corners. The oil is shitty. At least here you have Whole Foods and farmer's markets. Don't get me wrong...I lived the life you just described...and it is nice...for a while.

I want to live in a lush, green area in small mountains (2500-6000 ft. elevation) with less than 2 hours to drive to the ocean or less than a half hour from a large, placid river or lake.

I'd want my home to be a cluster of small buildings (each <750 sq ft.) 50-500 ft. apart, depending on the function, with plenty of vegetation growing between. Each building would have simple purposes. One a sleeping space, one a workshop, one a library, one kitchen & pantry, etc. Outside, I'd like a natural pool, a separate stock-pond; a few small orchards and some gardens; chickens, ducks, pigs, and goats; and a few beehives.

Also, I'd want two roads out: one well-known for travel and deliveries, and one that's secret.

That's sounds absolutely lovely.

I didn't think about secret things.

Now I'd add a secret cave in the side of one of the plateaus for secret operations and whatnot.

Right. If you're going to be in Texas, then it would be a sin not to have a secret cave stockpiled with firearms and canned goods.

Right. I'd have more canned refried beans than I would realistically be able to eat. I miss tex-mex food so much. I'd own explosives for sure.

mediterranean island coast house and lush tight garden, good living spaces, little places to end up in. weed and other psychoactive crops, as well as plenty of edibles of many kinds. nitrous oxide tanks allover. access to all drugs known. big speaker system. accomodation for many guests nearby, with organic infrastructure facilitating meeting, exhange and discussion. every luxury imaginable except for personnel.

Well I can go into details:
-the ideal temperature for me is 16-18 degrees celsius
-a slightly humid cool breeze with a speed of no more than 5.5 m/s,
-misty and fuzzy surroundings that don't reveal the landscape in its entirety.
-moderate elevation changes, much like in southern Scotland/Newcastle area,
-coniferous forests,
-eternal spring,
-a quiet but noticeable sound of a brook flowing in the distance,
-occasional ambient sounds of birds and small mammals,
-lack of insects and big vertebrate (including humans)
-lots of time to think
-completely optional connection with the external world

That picture comprises the idea pretty well.

No, I just wanted to add some more detail that accumulated over the years, it was unrelated to your response.

Though I have probably missed the joke anyway:confused: :).

Haha. I knew somebody who knew about China more than the average person would respond to this in a way similar to this. While I get what you're saying, I suppose I was just ignoring all the bad parts because this is a "dream living conditions" thread. I'm more just going there out of interest in the culture and language. I've heard some pretty bad things about the food as well, especially street food. I hear it's not uncommon for street vendors to use rats in their dumplings, as it's much cheaper and few people notice. ENTJs are probably 200x more capable than INTPs when it comes to succeeding in this society (or Chinese society).

Yeah, I would too. I'm not entirely sure it's the best fit for me, it's just the first place that came to mind. Chinese cities have most of the benefits of American cities without such high expenses.

Living in Kunming was like getting malaria. It just gets into your blood somehow, and you don't want to leave. The food tastes great, the cost of living is low, the women are beautiful, the cities are incredibly busy, and you see things everyday you would never observe in America, it's never boring, there are lots of cool places to travel, the language and culture are incredible, the weather is warm and balmy...In many ways, I find myself pining for it :( . Unfortunately though, I think it's a dead end for an INTP. Chinese people in China are not at all like ABCs. Most care only about money, will do anything to get it. The population is largely homogeneous and brain-washed. I've had the exact same damn conversation with hundreds of Chinese people. Very little diversity of opinion. The big cities are the exception...so are the super-rich. Americans practice quiet wealth in comparison to Chinese people...conspicuous consumption is a sine qua non for wealthy Chinese. Maybe the old geezers are not that way...but everyone else wants the next gold-encrusted iphone X. Who do you think is going to be lining up to buy that new gold Apple watch? Yup.

Taiwan might be nicer in some ways though...less corruption and dishonesty. Less pollution too. Never been so just speculating.

Basically, take out the environmental pollution in China, change people's values, and inject political freedom and you have an amazing place to live.

Well-insulated Japanese style house with a rock garden in the middle and an inner and outer wrap-around verandah. The house would be elevated off the ground to allow for ventilation and prevent mould development. Minimalistic furnishings; tatami mats everywhere and a fireplace in the middle of the kitchen which would have attached a built-in network of copper cables leading hot water throughout the house under the floorboards. This system would be co-powered by solar panels and a back-up aggregate which would be running on biofuel generated by my assembly of different types of pigs :D

red-river-piglets.jpg

pinselohrschwein.jpg

Some of these pigs would be supplying the occasional need for bacon, although I have a mostly vegetarian preference, mainly for the reason that I simply don't enjoy much meat, and cooking it is a messy and stinky affair.

The house would be situated in an undulating coastal landscape; just far enough inland to spot the sea in the far horizon. There would be an option to connect to the rest of the world at my convenience, but I would have a well-stocked library and a greenhouse attached to the kitchen with edible and non-edible species from all over the world. I've realised that gardening work is highly therapeutic and rewarding for me personally, although I used to think it was the most boring thing ever when I was younger. There would be minimal gardening work required outside as I would keep as much natural bushland as possible, and the inner rock garden would be another place I could potter around, rearranging rocks and sand at random intervals.

Something like....this?

ATDW_Landscape__BN27_Blue_Johanna_House.jpg

Alternatively, this is also appealing :D:

A lovely suggestive word play, now that I'm impressed I get the picture you were trying to paint.

I enjoy the thing Norway has going for it with fjords and mountains, so I'd like to live in a secluded forest in a small house near those things.

I need good internet. And a car which I drive to my job 10 minutes away in the local town. It would be nice growing some vegetables there. Maybe I'd have a small greenhouse.

Contrary to a lot of people here I would like to live in the middle of everywhere. Right in the middle of where everything is happening. (with enough income to survive) It's surprising how much of what goes on is missed where everything is happening.

I have a suspicion that if I read C&H when I was much younger, I'd be a slightly better person now.

I could see myself enjoying that, too.

Well-insulated Japanese style house

True Japanese style houses are uncomfortable. Impossible to keep warm, and if in a climate like Japan they get odd (bad, musty) smells from the varying humidity. No thanks.

Mostly what I pulled together for myself, other than I don't live in a forest, but next to one. Hard to get everything. But I agree that's a good way to go.

I'd live in Longyearbyen, Norway.

Forever frozen and isolated like my heart.
In winter, dark and edgy like my soul.
The roar of lonely bears echo my anguish.
Landscape is desolate like my chakra.

In a nutshell, Asterix & Obelix village as the astronomer of the village, which is lacking.

More realistically, I would like to live in a small town with a nice social atmosphere, where I would know some trusted people very well.I would own a small house with a backyard where I can watch the stars every night.A big room (in which the kitchen is included)+ a bedroom would be sufficient, but a basement is also nice.

Guess I'm screwed as I live in the middle of a huge city, with no backyard and no balcony to watch the stars at night.

I would live on the penthouse of the largest tower in the largest city on the most mineral-rich planet available. And every now and then, I would look out on the city from my fortified vantage-point, carefully disguised with holograms and back-door dealings with satellite operators to look like it is the middle of an ocean, and sneer while swirling the 1000 year old wine in my glass. And I would think... "You're mine. All of you, you little bastards. Alllll mine." Occasionally, I will cackle and stroke my lap-cheetah as I do this staring out at the horizon thing.

My team of chefs would prepare bags of tofu that taste exactly like potato chips, which would be the staple of my diet, and they would also know how to make spinach have the exact taste and texture of both cheesecake and ice cream but with the nutrients and low calorie count of spinach.

Every week, my team of florists will present a new plant that they have genetically engineered, and I will either approve or disapprove passing these along to marketing, manufacturing and sales. I'll make the most off of the results the biomedical engineering department comes up with though.

When I get bored, I'll check the stocks to see how much my wealth's acceleration has further accelerated. Then I shall nap and dream of myself doing an interpretive modern dance done in digital money.

After innovating some sort of brand new technology that makes everyone's lives better when I've woken up, I shall check with security to see how many robbery/assassination/hacking/other attempts have been made to sponge off of my empire while I was away. If I am in a good mood, I shall be merciful and kind to the perpetrators (who have already been identified and quarantined).

Perhaps I shall then stroll through my hydroponic forest, or go downstairs to the lobby to hear whatever singer or orchestra is currently booked! I shall be in my invisible protective bubble, which prevents all human contact and filters the germs and pollution in the air automatically, and I shall set its skin to "formal" such that I shall already be looking like exactly what the other zillionaires want to see (I will have secretly hacked the protective bubble suits such that they can read their wearers' minds and I can project whatever this image may be). Anyone who is not wearing a bubble suit shall see me as either a dangerous looking beggar or a small child, depending on my mood at the time.

If I decide to go out amongst "the people" in said protective suit, my suit shall automatically give me the interest levels and industrial natures of each person I pass by, and I shall set the filter to block or mute all but the most relevant to my current projects.

In my late 40's, I will probably jump off the tower due to some sort of midlife crisis/insanity, and at auction, Neckbeard shall win the bid on my room-sized aquarium filled with the tears of virgins (the perfect salinity to house the sharks I've engineered for when I am not feeling benevolent), and Rook shall take pity on the mermaid midget team that maintained said sharks (and always with a smile on their faces and a song in their hearts... bless them). Jennywocky will win the auction on my 200 spitting cobras that have evolved a sense of community and have begun to develop a basic syntax to whatever language they were speaking during their long captivity (I never will have been able to figure that out).

I shall reincarnate as a sort of cloud-based entity that only (secretly) exists within certain wavelengths of energy, and continue my exploration of the universe in a more englightened, spiritual manner than I was able to during my past lives.

A small high tech apartment with good ventilation and sound proof walls built in a way so that light doesn't shine through the window, preferably somewhere where it rains a lot, it should generally be dark, also it must not be close to a major road. (I dislike sound, sunlight, bad ventilation, to much heat and dry weather).

What you've described is an architectural nightmare.

*shrug* I don't like direct sunlight, I do want a few windows to look out of, to the opposite side of the sun though. Also it would be nice if the appartment is windy as well.

Less than 500 sq. ft house (I don't clean things) on a secluded beach in Maui. Internet, food and shower are only necessities for sustaining.

who needs cleaning when you can have excess ceiling height, a mobile garbage compressor and mortar?

mediterranean island coast house and lush tight garden, good living spaces, little places to end up in. weed and other psychoactive crops, as well as plenty of edibles of many kinds. nitrous oxide tanks allover. access to all drugs known. big speaker system. accomodation for many guests nearby, with organic infrastructure facilitating meeting, exhange and discussion. every luxury imaginable except for personnel.

this but I also want to have this one quiet person who will keep things clean so that I don't have to. Plus I want the house to be located outside of LA so that visits to the city are possible.
