It would seem like I am waiting, but that is not the case. People need to stop burden themselves with the illusion of being passive. If people are not doing, they are thinking.

All I do is wait. Wait for this girl, wait for this storm to pass, wait 'til I can jump back on a plane and escape this shit hole. Wait all week at work for the weekend and then wait all weekend to go back to work. I've been imprisoned in time rather than space and the confinement is solitary despite the presence of others.

Estragon: Nothing to be done.
Vladimir: I'm beginning to come round to that opinion.

I'm waiting for the rest of my life, chugging on in my tugboat but we're taking on water we'll never reach the shore until I realize good god man this is my life this is all there is and I bail out the water frantically but it is futile. Sisyphus reels in horror under his stoic composure.

I wait to write something worthwhile but as I tap my pen on the desk waiting for inspiration nothing is ever written.

Estragon: Well, shall we go?
Vladimir: Yes, let's go. (They do not move.)

Currently;

Waiting for my work visa to be approved.

Waiting for my vehicle's transmission to fail.

Waiting for my eldest son to begin his descent down the slippery slope of puberty.

I'm finding it difficult to inject creativity into such a passive process.

I do not wait so much as I whittle away the time before I either succumb to the inevitability of entropy or succeed in escaping the banality of my existence, that is to say I have hope, an utterly foolish hope, that resisting entropy might be somehow worth it.

I'm waiting for the day I wake up and don't immediately want to put a gun in my mouth.

I'm waiting on finding that one thing I love doing and am more than mediocre at.

I'm waiting on the day I can tell people, "I don't give a shit what you think of me," and really, really mean it.

And I'm waiting on that new Hobbit movie because it looks pretty good.

Perhaps your desire to overcome entropy is rooted in something tangible. Life is all about resisting entropy. All other systems become simpler over time, but living systems build complexity. Every system from the cell up is optimized in order to reduce entropy within itself and maintain order.. and not just that, but chaos is utilized by the overall system to enhance evolution.

Everything and nothing.

Continuously, faraway and unlikely events slip into the background and close and probable events push into the foreground.

I'm particularly interested in Dec 21 2012, though it is probably nothing.

I am waiting, everyday, to see how the universe will unfold.
I wait to see what marvel my youngest grandson will discover today.
I wait to see what the neighbor will come up with to try and talk me into cutting down the pine trees in my yard.

The first two seem intimately connected. Not sure about the third.

I'm procrastinating and came across this thread because this is some weird thing I do unless I jump-start my morning with some intellectual stuff. It takes a while for my brain to kick itself into gear and start a process of deep thinking

edit: no, I call it procrastinating maybe but it's new information and thinking prompts I'm finding. Scanning for.

Have you considered purchasing some lollipops, yanking down your trousers in a congested mall and asking the Auntie Anne's Pretzel lady if she'd like to earn some extra cash?

Another bloke addicted to the hunt. :D

The hunt's usually prolonged by not stipulating a goal or making the goal impossibly vague, high, or otherwise unattainable. Look at the War on Terror - what the fuck is that? :phear:

I've waited because it wasn't good enough. I have high standards. I was utterly depressed in HS because I was told 'everything has already been said.'

My parents thought my "artistic pursuits" were an interesting "hobby" but what did I plan to do for a living (unless I marry a wealthy man - 'you're welcome' to all men who hate being used thus)

So I'm held back by my expectations of greatness. Not so much as I get older.

Deep insight.

Depends, I think I could be quite happy with a woman that openly admits only loving me for my money, better her prostituting herself for my pleasure than I all but literally prostrating myself before her to gain her fickle attentions, and if I take it upon myself to be kind to her even though I don't have to, and she accepts my kindness with gratitude even though she doesn't have to, then we could have a very healthy and apparently "normal" relationship.

But of course I'm not rich :slashnew:

It's a war against a highly-abstract, vaguely-defined noun, silly! :)

Yeah, by all means keep discretionary spending sky high and invade half the planet but (gosh) let's not operationally define terror because that might crimp the fun by creating an end point. Fuckers. This is exactly like the perennial war in 1984. The Cold War...isn't it funny how both the USSR and US appeared to be benefiting from that number while the populace was subjugated to abject fear? And here's another shocker - 1984 was published in 1949. Perhaps the fledgling Cold War was on Orwell's mind? Anyway, the pretexts for these conflicts are increasingly zany - Iraq (surprise) wasn't brimming with WMDs and the 9/11 bombers (~15/19) were supposedly from Saudi Arabia. That makes the Gulf of Tonkin business and Pearl Harbor (both scripted) look like kid's stuff in comparison. :D
