I think they're best represented as a small cat, maybe a housecat. Here's a bunch of INTP-esque cat characteristics.
content to take "catnaps" most of the day
sometimes affectionate with those they are closest to
friendly one minute, standoffish the next
independent
intelligent
and those aye-aye pictures are oddly endearing.
The description of aye-aye's in wikipedia sounds an awful lot like INTPs, but I don't care for the "Harbinger of Death" mythos and general scariness about them.
Holy shit thats ugly as hell !
Here is a decent picture of the poor animal:

Still ugly tho![]()
I would consider a wolf into this. Entps aren't completely heartless. Wolves group together as a family. Small groups. They are only affectionate with their small family and only the members of the family know about them. (Ignoring the scenting thing) Entps are observant right? Well a wolf is too. Patient animals on hunting their prey. They are smart and they are quiet secluded animals. Sure they are seen as mean but seriously, they are only wild.
Oh and wolves can be pretty laid back animals whenever they aren't trying to survive.
I think it's adorable! lol and I want one...The description of aye-aye's in wikipedia sounds an awful lot like INTPs, but I don't care for the "Harbinger of Death" mythos and general scariness about them.

Hey, I think I might be able to fill that job description.
Tell me about the perks!
Edit: Not that gratuitous insanity is no reward in and of itself.
i've always wanted to flyHmm, I'm not sure on what specific animal would have the most INTP-like characteristics, but I've always known that if I could be reborn as an animal other than a human it would be an eagle. To be almost completely independent, effortlessly soaring above and observing, doing as I pleased with no fear of any natural predators (except humans I guess) is bliss as I see it.
RESPECT. A little annoyance, but mostly love. We need more characters around here!
no no no...The definitive guide to MBTI totems:
ESTJ: Human
ISTJ: Skunk
ESFJ: Hippo
ISFJ: Bear
ESTP: Toad
ISTP: Wolf
ESFP: Squirrel
ISFP: Swan
ENFJ: Lion
INFJ: Raven
ENFP: Dolphin
INFP: Giraffe
ENTJ: Tiger
INTJ: Octopus
ENTP: Monkey
INTP: Bat
turtle, man. like INTPs they are kind of slow when out of their element, but excellent at that to which they are naturally suited. the ability of the turtle to retract into it's shell mirrors the INTP ability to retreat into their own thoughts. they are both also few in number.

a flying liger..When I read that I read the INT_ and saw the octopus and said "cool, I wanna be an octopus" and then I saw the J and was like "darn, well we're going to be way cooler", guess not:/
Also, I want to be a Liger, it is a very magical creature, not like bats
a flying turtle then. a bat's blind personality is good. but its too socially active. its too scheduled(nightflyers). and most of all, too aggressively scary.Nah, mix between a lion and tiger.
And I find a bat eerily accurate, it's always been one of my favourite animals. Plus, we get echolocation and flight.![]()
:smiley_emoticons_mri wouldn't be smiling if i were you.Aggressively scary? Really? Really?They're adorable...
but not purely night. they have a "J" feel to that. But night-flyers is applicable to most of us.
a good amnimal to ENFJAnd I still think echolocation is a good metaphor for intuition.
i agree with those lone wolves/cats. flying liger.Turtles work i suppose, but i think turtles are slow and methodical, which doesn't quite fit... Turtles seem to fit ISTJ's better than INTP's.
IMO owls match better than turtles.
Ravens seem to work better, they are extremely intelligent, very adaptable, not especially social, have a slightly negative connotation, and are creators.

(I also don't think it is a coincidence that there are 4 Raven smileys)
A couple more candidates:
Snow leopards
Independent, Rare, Intelligent, predatory, quiet, contained, (and they are devastatingly beautiful)aside from Lions, i think Cats in general seem to fit rather well.![]()
Arctic Foxes (or other foxes)
Independent, adaptable, wary, insulated, sly. However whether or not we want to call INTP's "sly" is debatable, because of our general abhorrence of lies, but still, i think it pertains.
