So I'm watching this batman cartoon movie thing http://videogrounds.blogspot.com/2008/06/batman-gotham-knight-2008.html

and this kid saves batman my hitting a good with his skateboard

and I like, well up and almost burst.

Sad stuff doesn't really make me cry, but sad things happening to heroic people does, and moment of extreme courage always do.

You know the first season of Digimon? With Tai and Matt and stuff? Well Tai is pretty much who I made an idol of when I was young, or he was at least one of them.

I rewatched the whole 50 episodes about a year back and I must have cried a good 20 times.

The skullgreymon episode is just too much.

Anyway, I wonder what makes me so emotional about this kind of thing, but not other things.

Seems kinda fucked up.

I will watch the batman thing later (Im at work now). I hardly ever cry but if something can do it is music. There are certain songs that if I let myself be carried away I would easily cry, I always stop myself before it happens tho.
Other than that, rarely some movie can do it and I have to kind of "allow" it first.

Music is one of the only things that can make me cry, other than like personal tragedy and I don't think I've had a serious enough one of those. Sometimes I almost cry at movies, but then I sort of start laughing at myself, but not in a mean way, in a sort of "Aww, you were almost crying at fiction!" way.

Oh, and endings. If I finish a series of books I really love, or a TV series, or something like that, I cry. Last episode of Friends, for example.

Yeah, that's the weird thing!

I never cry when things happen in my actual life, only fiction gets me.

Music never does.

Things like the ending of The Shawshank Redemption make me cry. When Red finds the note in the box, or when they finally meet at the beach.
And music does that to me sometimes. Almost every night, when it's not raining, I take a walk in the park. Lovely park here, I'll add some pics in a bit. I play music on my mp3 player, this music for example (I know, posted it in another thread too, but it's just so good, IMHO). It's really amazing how two different personalities can get to together on an emotional level like that. Note that the clip is a jam session and they've only just met eachother that same day.

The park pictures (click for larger image):

This is one of the songs that can make me cry. It has a great deal of sentimental value to me, since it was what convinced me to come out - listen to the lyrics.

The others on the album that can make me cry are perhaps too long to go on YouTube, 17 minutes and 12 minutes (Only Skin and Emily). But if you like Monkey and Bear, then the rest of Ys is definitely worth checking out. Colleen, on the Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band EP, is also excellent.

Oh, and seeing those pictures of that beautiful park reminded me of another thing that makes me cry: great beauty. Beauty can reduce me to tears.

Weird stuff can make me go all teary eyed and stuff, but it's not a common occurence. I've been actually checking Digimon Adventures out online. It's so incredibly childish since it's audience is children, but it was something I also liked a lot as a child. Some sentimental stuff there, too. Hmm.

Maybe we are in the same boat. Sometimes, if I hear a song that is so well put together, it will make me "well up". Or, if I hear a stereo system that sounds perfect, I get the same feeling. Other times, I will watch someone with such extreme skill that I am amazed, I "well up", sometimes it makes me shake a little bit too. Anyway, not that weird from what I've seen.

Sometimes I notice that certain musicians have a following with devotion approaching religious in its intensity. Indeed, the artist whose songs I linked to earlier is one such musician, and it's really very odd. Almost all of her fans fall into the category of immediately loving (and probably crying at) her music, or having one song, initially disliking it until it grew on them, downloading more and loving (and probably crying at) them. Then, when they first go to see her live, many people report floods of strong emotion, some of them feeling faint, others crying, etc.; and we quote her lyrics like rabbis quoting the Talmud.

I wonder, could I take an MBTI poll on that forum to find out if there's a correlation between Joanna fans, who almost universally exhibit the above, and certain types?

I think my brother listens to her.

He doesn't really display any of the feelings you're talking about, however he tends to hide his emotions from me out of an unfounded idea that I'm heartless.

Frankly I find it a little annoying sounding, but maybe the lyrics are good.

i used to cry a lot but now any emotional reaction to life seems to come out in my photography (or music). i've somewhat cut myself off from any influences though (news, television, media in general). it helped.

That's what most people (me included) think at first: a little annoying. It grows on you if it plays at random, though.

I'm talking about fans when I say all that stuff, the kind of fans who read articles about her and always know when she's touring and where and join the forum about her.

I HATE crying in front of people so I try to avoid things that I know will provoke me like: Certain songs that make me hysterical , some movies (especially E.T. cause it had a huge impact on me as a lil kid), or drinking too much WINE. It's weird, wine is the only drink that makes me need to cry lol I've had 3 meltdowns since winter and all were after one glass too many.

OMG! I cry like a baby every time I watch ET! I went to see it with my mum when it was re-released in 2000, and we just sobbed into eachother's arms the whole time!

ET?

The whole thing or specific parts?

Is your crying in anticipation of what's to come or does each moment get you?

Don't feel bad. I'm that way, too. I cried through two full episodes of God, The Devil and Bob. And that show only had like six episodes.

I think I was overwhelmed by the creation of one of the very few watchable shows in American TV history.

I know I sound sarcastic but I'm not trying to.

Specific parts, obviously. I'm pretty emotionally sensitive when it comes to things like that, one of the few times my steely thinking exterior is broken.

Thank "god" im not the only one lol Everyone laughs at me! The first time I saw E.T. I was about 6 years old. I CRIED hard then, and ever since. Usually the last scene, when he finally goes home...it's the combination of the acting, E.T. himself was very believable and the FX in that movie were brilliant, and of course the music. A movie has never gotten to me like that one, and probably never will. I feel very nostalgic watching that movie too...so I'm sure that helps.

I always cry at the scene when all the NASA/FBI people are at the house trying to take ET away, as well.

Here are some of the songs that take me there:

Blue by Yoko Kanno (The Seatbelts)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8THRgdtUnTE

Street spirit by Radiohead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrZTNhW44-o
Speaking of Yoko Kanno, there's this amazing song that I always play in moments of depression to get me back cheerio again:

YouTube- Arai Akino - Bara no Shigemi

Sung by Arai Akino.

Ontopic: I haven't cried for ages but whenever I review my old scrapbooks my eyes get abit watery. Maybe I'm too self-obsessed. And yeah, that ET scene was sad too. I remember that when I was leik around 8 years old I used to watch 'The land before time', and I used to try and hold back any tears when Littlefoot was looking and calling for his mother. And then quite naively I would go out and get any three-pointed leaf I could find and stare at it for a long time.

A video game actually got me crying sort of recently. It was a quite touching part of the plot, and the background music was also effective.

I also cry when I'm drunk...which is why I won't be doing it for a while. It makes people uncomfortable, and I'm not about to start drinking alone cause that would be sad lol Crying does feel good though, every once and a while.

The end of Dreamfall got to me, and it was the music that pushed me over the edge I think.

Weird things get to me as well. Some songs, some books, some lectures in college, some smiles..

Things that made me cry recently:
*numerous* parts in Neil Gaiman's A Game of You.
A documentary called Southern Comfort. Saddest thing I've ever seen; a man dies of uterine cancer because doctors refuse to treat him. The documentary captures the remaining months of his life. God, it's making me cry just thinking about it. If god exists ze's a real dick, by the way.
My grandma when she visited and played my piano.

Crying is amazing. I've only been able to allow myself to cry the past few months though.

This makes me weep every time I watch it: http://www.happyproduct.com/more1.html

THANK YOU FOR THIS LINK! I saw this years ago when the sci-fi channel used to have a show that featured interesting short films and that one has stuck with me like no other. It has a very powerful impact on me. Now I can watch it as often as I want.

Since the thread topic is "weird shit makes me cry" I'll tell you something really weird: My eyes tear up everytime I yawn. It's not an emotional thing but rather physiological but no one I've met (including doctors) believe me when I tell them about it. There just doesn't seem to be any logical link between yawning and the tear ducts. Anyone else have that problem?

Not understanding even our own emotional response to something is really part of the INTP thing for many of us, isn't it? :-) People get annoyed with us when we react differently to situations that apparently draw out a shared emotional response from everybody else. What if they knew we don't even understand the emotions we do have? We'd really be pariahs. Oh, wait.... :-)

I don't like crying. It makes me feel...unproductive.
Because when I'm sitting there leaking out of my eyes, I'm usually not thinking about solving whatever problem made me cry. And yes, I usually only ever cry because of extreme frustration. I only cried from getting hurt physically when I was little.
Feeling helpless or trapped could make me cry, but that's probably because it makes me frustrated.
Tears are useful tools of manipulation, especially with Fe types. >.>
Oh. And seeing old people cry (I'm talking white-haired, wrinkled geezers) makes my breath catch. Something about it just...I don't know. It's so sad.

As I was driving today I saw a few "Yes on prop 8" (anti gay marriage) signs in front of people's houses. And then a commercial when I got back home. It made me cry for about an hour.

Crying is like vomiting. You're afraid to do it, but then it feels so much better afterwards.
