Wealth or Fame

I want fame. Not like popularity fame, that would be nice too, but more like acknowledgment for who I am.

Before I die I want to leave behind some kind of work so that people can remember me. A book, a work of art, or maybe a building.

Money I feel is useless. Of course we need money, but I think I would be happy with just enough to support my life style, which isn't extravagant or anything. When I die, I can't take money with me.

So what would you guys choose?

That's always been my attitude. I'm not interested in celebrity fame either, that is, where everyone knows who you are and people are drawn to you purely because of your fame. I think that is bullshit. But, and this is important, I want people to know how awesome and brilliant I am. So I don't want to be famous, but I do want to be admired.

Wealth, then, by process of elimination. Anything more than what I needed I'd use to take care of stray dogs or give to a charity or something. I don't know. I highly doubt I'll achieve either, to be honest.

Pretty much this. Money is a means to survival and a means to general comfort. Nothing more, nothing less. Indulgence beyond a comfortable lifestyle does not interest me at all.

I would hate to be "famous", though being recognized for achievements a, b, and c would be awesome.

Hmm. Difficult question. Enough money to get a good education for myself and anyone else I may need to support in future. I guess I would want enough money to continue living the same lifestyle as I do now, but not much.

I would like fame, but the kind of fame that people get after they die. An unappreciated scholar during my lifetime; my works slowly to be appreciated by the academic community after I die.

Having the approval of the general populace doesn't really matter to me; though I wouldn't mind being infamous. I could really use wealth, though not for typical 'aristocratic' things. I'd get the most high-tech computer systems possible. I'd probably indulge a few whims too; a ride on the vomit comet, my own helicopter, and a g-force simulator(those are fun). I imagine I would invest in the R&D of new technologies as well.

It depends on how I obtained the wealth though. If I earned it I'd have no qualms about using it. However if it was just dumb luck, I'd probably give away most of it to charities or in the form of scholarships.

I honestly want neither. Fame seems like a horrible bother.. the idea of people knowing me that I don't know doesn't seem like fun. My dislike of wealth is a bit more complicated.. I feel like if I was wealthy I would be a lesser person, have less fun, appreciate what I have less, and generally forget how to live. Right now I'm barely getting by financially, but the the last 2-3 months have been some of the best of my life. Wealth and fame would F everything up for me I think.

edit: Also, if I was wealthy.. drugs would probably kill me pretty quick. I have a nasty addictive streak, and there have been many times that my life was saved by running out of money.

I believe the correct word to be recognition, rather than fame.

Anyways, wealth would be fabulous. No more chained to a lame job, a shitty boss, or worrying about paying utilities. No more being unable to pursue hobbies because of their expense. No more being forced to buy the cheapest quality products, freedom from financial dependence! And you can decide to invest your money in worthwhile things, make your own high risk businesses

I am the exact same way. That is why I don't play the lottery. If all of a sudden I came into a great amount of cash, I think I would blow it all on cocaine.

anyways, if I had fame, sure it would be great. everyone knows who you are. hooray (/sarcasm). actually it really depends on what I would be famous for. just becoming instantly famous out of the blue for no apparent reason? no thank you. that would be completely pointless and not at all appealing.

now if I became instantly wealthy, I would most likely have a nice completely-fucking-overblown house constructed somewhere remote, and I would just spend my days in it doing whatever I felt like.
