Dear Forum,

If Spongebob Squarepants is Pop, Teen Titans is Soft Rock, and Redwall is Rock, then I do believe that I've found the Metal of children's television programs, a movie called "Watership Down," and not the namby-pamby modern version, either. I'm talking about the full-on, rock-and-roll, flying-monkeys-eat-your-hearts-out 1978 version. Needless to say, watching Watership Down on your work computer is ill-advised, but if you read stories or show movies to your kids, then this is what your little rascals would refer to as "THE GOOD STUFF".

Watership Down.

Great movie...it was rather scary when I was 11.

Also see: The Plague Dogs, for more Richard Adams movie adaptationess.

And you all know it was a book first, right? Quite a good book.

I didn't know that Watership Down had been a book until I researched the movie.

I remember this movie from a short scene in the film Donnie Darko. I have never heard its name or seen any more than 5 seconds of it until now. O.O

Yes. Fuck yes.

The book is one of the best written pieces of fiction ever in my opinion, and this film is not a bad adaptation at all.

Oh man.....Watership Down...

Fortunately, I did not see this one as a kid. It definitely would have traumatized me.

My wife saw it as a kid and it simultaneously thrilled and traumatized her. She's still really fascinated by it and its themes/imagery come up a lot in her writing/art.

On a related note, when I saw Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as a kid it simultaneously thrilled and traumatized me, and (obviously) I'm still fairly obsessed with it. :D

Watership Down is an excellent movie.

But if you want an animation that will soil your childhood forever, I'd recommend Fritz the Cat, or basically anything by Robert Crumb. ;)

Fritz the Cat? I've heard that from somewhere. Is it some sort of a lurid adult show?

From google? ;) I guess you could say that, though most of his stuff is satire of contemporary culture in one way or another.

No, TV Tropes, actually. :) But I'm not much for satire; I'll pass.

Watched this as a kid and never completely forgot it. I think I was traumatized seeing bunnies getting killed every which way. The spiritual aspect of the story was something that always haunted me too, it seemed sad and poetic.
