Urge to use 'creative' words

I often find myself using alternative words in common sentences, I don't exactly know why I do it, I think to cause some sort of change or slight surprise in people or so... But I just do. I've noticed I do it really often. Especially to make offensive or mean stuff a little more goofy.

Is this part of the INTP character traits? Or am I just some sort of trying-too-hard-to-stand-out ass? I haven't really thought about it that way, but hey, it could be.

It's hard for me to give an example really... I guess the spoiler is an example. It's just fun to use synonyms so the whole atmosphere of a sentence kind of changes. If that makes any sense.

I tend to do the same thing, it's not uncommon. What's the point of having a good vocabulary if you never use it? If I had bigger arms I'd probably wear wife beaters more.

Actually my vocab is about average, but it's something I consciously work on by *gasp* using unusual words.

Yeah, that's just it basically.
It's not exactly 'showing off' or something, as I have a pretty average vocabulary as well, it's just... fun. For whatever reason.

I wouldn't look into it too far (you wouldn't, would you?), a strong J might assume you're showing off your long words, but mundane language is... mundane? The only advantage I can see to having such a ridiculously over complex language is that it doesn't get old in our lifetimes. Creative use of language is an art to be appreciated.

Hmm...I thought creative words would be neologisms, portmanteau words etc.

Like, maybe fricthought (when you feel your brain is stuck), turbing (as the opposite of disturbing), intpish (shouldn't need to explain that).

E.g. He makes for rather turbing company, but he doesn't comfort me either.

Have you ever been tested for aspergers? I only ask because i was doing some reading on the subject and one of the symptoms is using more formal vocabulary.

For sure. Its like using different colours or whatever. Why not use something rare or uncommon from the corner of the lexicon if you can? Usually I can't, but I try. Sometimes, its just a matter of looking for the 'more right' word, or the perfect shade of meaning.

There are quite a few words that disgust me, so I'm liable to replace them with less common synonyms.

Perhaps = Perchance
Soon = Anon
Sure = Certain
Very = Grossly, Absurdly, Excruciatingly, etc.
Seeing = Witnessing
Stupid = Foolish

Usually, I construct all of my sentences with a qualifying word and a comma at the very beginning, and sometimes the end, too. It's starting to make me a little anxious. I only ever speak in anything near absolutes in order to emphasize something. I don't think anyone has noticed.

Yeah, I tend to do the same. I think it is just the sense of openness and neutrality we try to radiate. I don't like to speak in absolutes.

I haven't been tested, but honestly, I don't think I have Aspergers. My interests are really broad, and compared to some of the other INTPs I've met/seen on this forum, I'm relatively empathic.

I think it's just creative use of language. The English language has such a rich lexicon -- arguably richer than any other -- it would be a shame not to try and use as much of it as possible.

I bought a book the other day called 600 words to make you sound clever. I think there is probably some general correlation between intelligence and vocabulary, but the good thing is that no-one can call you on it. As long as you use the word correctly, you will appear smarter, and no-one can say anything to the contrary.

ha I use that one.

I have 2 diff groups of friends who use 2 diff types of creative language.

first group: we use words to communicate things like good job, or im smart:tactical, or impressive:Tyyy, usually words are used in exclamation

second group: actually shortens words to the most efficent form of intelligble understanding, usually dropping the last one or two vowels

money:mun
casino:casine
hungry: Hung
etc

For myself tho, I dont use creative words as much as I use creative expressions and multi facial expressions; I put ESF's to shame with my multiple millisecond facical expressions, allowing me having to talk less and evoke emotions in others. Its like being consciously charming
