Well today something really angered me. I have a friend who never really does her math homework (I'm not saying I'm a saint on it, I usually do mine in homeroom) but most of the time in homeroom she's just talking to friends and such, while the rest of the class is working to finish their work. I know a lot of people who try as much as they can to finish not stopping to even talk until it's through. Anyways, so my math teacher has some song to teach us a formula but she said she wouldn't sing it and wanted someone else to do it. So automatically everyone points to my friend as she's in chorus and she agrees. Yet here's the thing... all of the zeros she has on her homework grades are taken off. Yes, and she has a good amount of them I do believe. So, she didn't try while others worked, and just because she will sing a stupid song probably to a little tune like row row row your boat for 10 seconds she gets all the points she needs? I don't know, this just doesn't seem just to me... maybe I'm just being too severe on it, I'm not going to talk to the teacher about it or anything (I'm not that kind of person) but I still view it as being completely unfair to everyone else. Your opinions? I apologize if this doesn't seem that important, but it just got me angry enough to realize just how screwed the school system is.

That is absolutely not fair, especially to the people who work their asses off to do the best they can and still recieve less than perfect grades. If she doesn't do her work that's fine as long as she isn't distracting anyone that is trying to be productive, but she should have to live with the consequences of having a low grade. That makes me a little angry with the teacher.

I'm not telling you, stalker! :P
The girl you are describing actually reminds me of me. :o

What math class are you in? If you are in a easy math class, then I really don't see a reason to be mad. If you are in a harder one though (Adv.Algebra II), then I see your reason of being jealous.

I think that it's perfectly ok for that girl to talk as long as she isn't making too much of a racket. I usually just read books during homeroom so I don't get bashed at much, but I'm not usually bothered by talking people since they always talk in moderation.

Also, it could be that the "points" the teacher gave her was not for the song, or the homework, or extra credit, but because she did well on the tests. And it doesn't mean that she is not studying in school means she isn't studying in school. You might never know, since like her, I goof off at school, and probably study last minute, but I do do my homework.

Of course, I may be biased on this, because you seem to be describing me more than other INTPs...

:(

I'm in honors/algebra she is most certainly not INTP. I don't think it's the talking that really agitates me (I do it as well) it's just how apathetic she is and that everything I say or do she just blows away. I'm not angry or anything at her, and I'm probably making more of a big deal out of this than it is...maybe I'm just stressed and this sort of triggered something that gave me something to take it out on . I'm not some serious hardworking person in school I'm quite slacked and goofy as you described yourself (though I do get things done... whether it be on time or not :p) I honestly don't know why I even gave a crap at all. Perhaps it's just from past experiances I've had with her...though I probably just need to take a chill pill and relax (now to work on that 2.5 week late book report....
Of course... if I look at the class as a whole as a neutral observer I still don't think it seems right to give her these homework grades. I mentioned my book report. I deserve a low grade on it for it being late, I accept it, it wouldn't be right to give me a 100 when others worked to finish theirs on time... did I just go against myself?

Procrastination makes perfect!

No seriously, I did three months of chemistry homework in one day XD. B.Sing homework was probably one of the most useful things that I learned in school.

I am in the presence of a true procrastination master... I bow in your presence.
The thing I've procrastinated most in was probably this huge project we had in language arts about Japanese culture (this relates to english as we read a book with it, in case you were wondering) so everyone took like 2 or so weeks to do theirs and I did mine the night before. Might I add that the teacher adored mine?
WHOA!!! I'm a major hypocrit. I just realized that the same friend got a lower score than me on that and she worked harder and longer on hers! (Of course I did turn mine in on time...it was a miracle in the making!)

10 page research paper on the Cold War in 4 hours, here! Ended up gettin' an A, too. :D
I don't usually work well (or at all) on homework/projects if I'm not under pressure.

Lulz, you think that's screwed.

I do think it's unfair, but hey, who ever said school / life / whatever was fair?

Now, can someone tell me wtf is homeroom?

Homeroom is like a class in which you can basically do your homework in or (if you have a cool teacher) you can do whatever you want. It's dumb and a complete waste of time imo.

Anyways I agree that it is totally unfair. I myself have numerous calc assignments missing and would love to sing a little jingle to get rid of those zero's. Crap like this happens all the time in my school and depending on the personality of the teacher I would complain. Hell, if I disliked the teacher I would probably take it too the principal or superintendent...Yea...I dislike the school system.:beatyou:

To be fair, what you learn in school isn't really that important. It's what you do after school that counts.

One of my friends at college constantly brings this kind of stuff up when I talk about work. He's annoyed that he spent weeks and weeks writing a massive dissertation; handing it in on time whilst I pretty much wrote mine the day before the deadline. I handed mine in a day late. He got a Pass and I got a Distinction. For some reason I work better under super high pressure levels.

I have assignments missing from last year and when I told my collegues how much work I have to complete they nearly fainted and couldn't believe how calm I was xD

My next trick is to do the entire years work (aswell as last years missing assignments) in a month. :D

It must take a certain level of skill to rack up the amount of work I have without getting caught. Several other members on the course were booted off last year because they failed to hand in assignments. Either that or I am incredibly lucky.

I do things last minuete as well, but this girl just didn't even turn them in at all. Also she would brag about how awesome it is she got this treatment afterwards. About your college work, I envy your skills! I suppose I'll have to wait and see for me, until college starts. I never usually get caught doing work really late, and this one teacher assumed I would spend weeks perfecting a project and that's why I did so well. Then the same friend I was talking of actually told her how I procrastinate and still do great, and now she's onto me :phear: oh well, I'm still getting things done and fairly well, if I do say so. :D

No, it's not fair, but it's an indication of the kinds of things life throws at you sometimes. Windfalls and catastrophes happen all the time. If they're not happening to you, don't worry about it too much.

Heck, think about all the lottery winners who never did anything more than spend two bucks on a ticket. Or all the people who just happened to be in the right place at the right time to get a job, promotion, career boost, tickets to their favorite gig, or whatever.

I've had teams of co-workers win substantial lottery prizes (five figures per person) more than once. Did they deserve it? Who knows? Does it change what I do every day? Hardly.

Then there's always the chance that there's additional information you haven't been privy to. Her math zeroes might have been taken off for other reasons. They might have been reinstated later on and you weren't told. They might have been changed from zero to 1/100. There might be some politics going on at a higher level where teachers are suddenly being penalised or having to do extra paperwork when their students get zeroes. Anything's possible.

Heh. I remember one competition at work that a new boss no-one really liked had set up. No-one wanted the prize or the shame of winning such a lame competition. So a bunch of people in the office got together (without my knowledge) and rigged it so that I won. The new boss and I did not like each other from the start - she was a fluffy bunny and I was a cynical naysayer. I'd actually said out loud in her hearing that if I won, I would put the prize through the office paper shredder. After the points had been counted, and she realised who was at the top of the chart, she retroactively changed the rules of the competition so I couldn't win.

Fair?

But of course, the real challenge hadn't been to win a stupid prize. It had been to make the new boss publically break her own self-proclaimed moral code of fairness and suffer a massive blow to her self-image so that she would stop being self-importantly chipper and fluffy when we were trying to work.

I left the office soon afterward, but I can't imagine that her remaining time there was any more pleasant if she kept trying to force her own way of doing things on the employees. In that office, the squeaky wheel tended to get thrown into the car crusher.

I couldn't help but laugh a little at this, I can just imagine her face. Yeah, I see why you left the office... so what was the prize anyway?:) but I see what you mean, that life is full of random occurrences that happen to people who may or may not deserve it.

so what was the prize anyway?

I think it was a little fluffy teddy bear wearing a t-shirt which said "WELL DONE!" or some such. Cute, saccharine, utterly condescending. The idea was that if you could get enough other people around the office to 'vote' for you saying how wonderful and helpful you were, you got to have the bear sit on your desk for a week.

My job at the time was the office tech support guy, so it was very easy for a handful of people to say that I'd helped them many many times, thus racking up the votes. If I recall correctly, the retroactive change to the rules was that each person in the office could only vote for you once per voting period, probably because there was one other person (I forget who) who had accumulated fewer total votes than me but had received them from more people.

And, y'know, because they hadn't said they were going to put the bear through the shredder if it came anywhere near their desk.
