Truly, truly INTP

Hmm... A factor that make is starting to question if I am actually an INTP:
Did not act like an INTP as a kid, but somehow managed to be one as I grew up. e.g.- As a "fledgling", I did not find how arguing against the teacher was mandatory, though personally I didn't agree with most things they said.

I still find it amazing how all the different personalities in the world can be categorized into 16 "parts". But, really, how can one define oneself? And most of all, why do people want to know more about himself/herself? Where does the curiosity come from? (Yes, I know the questions above are rather irrelevant, comparing it to the previous idea...)

What am I? Will we really understand ouselves?

I've actually had the some conundrum. Everyone likes to reference the idea that you can really figure out your type by thinking by to your childhood. The problem for me is that I am so very different than I was as a kid. I was extremely outgoing, played every sport imaginable, thrived in many organized environments like boy scouts, choir, and plays, was very religious, and generally kept a wide variety of friends. I never thought much of science, math, philosophy, etc.

Now, in my case, a lot of this might be attributed to a lot of dramatic events that unfolded after elementary school, leading to a move out of the state and a complete change of my lifestyle. I can point to this event as the defining point where my personality completely changed. It's interesting to think about, but I feel that it's a bit out of my reach to understand exactly what the cause of the change was.

I moved when I was 11, and I guess you could say I never truly adjusted :P.

It is not uncommon for INTPs to not have been INTPs as children. The official exam is supposed to be inaccurate if given to anyone under the age of 16 or so. Not being an INTP as a kid does not mean you are not an INTP now.

Ok. According to many development theory's its approximately in that age we are getting the last development. For exampel, Piaget thought that the Formal operational stage starts about 11/12 years of age.

Neurologically (Boyd, Bee, 2008) this is also an important time, between 10-12 years of age there are a spurt of brain growth, the frontal lobes of the cerebral cortex become the focus of developmental processes. Predictably the area of the brain that governs logic and planning.

This means that our personalities are not fully developed at a younger age. Its also important to emphasize the interplay between genes and environment (fenotype) which create who we become and who we are.

It might be accurate for you now (big might - I hate the tests), but I guess the idea is that you might take it a few years from now and get a much different result.

^Exactly. Though I have to admit I first took the test when I was 14 and several times since. I've always tested INTP.

When I was a child I was out-going, extroverted, judging (I've "programmed" my future and how to creat an utopia), I hated philosophy, psychology, science.
