Human society = Follow accepted daily protocol, giving a fuck is completely optional

Just one of those videos that make you

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqVYUzHc5L8

Unfortunately those kind of videos/news don't impress me any more as I think it should

Damn, that's kind of hard to watch.

I know cultures vary and all, but it's crazy how that happens. What is the guy talking about during the second half?

Because of the circle, I would've assumed it was monitored (which it was)

Bystander effect

There are, in fact, many reasons why bystanders in groups fail to act in emergency situations, but social psychologists have focused most of their attention on two major factors. According to a basic principle of social influence, bystanders monitor the reactions of other people in an emergency situation to see if others think that it is necessary to intervene. Since everyone is doing exactly the same thing (nothing), they all conclude from the inaction of others that help is not needed. This is an example of pluralistic ignorance or social proof.

We are trained to blend in. We often hear of violence, which we are reluctant to get involved in. We don't have the necessary knowledge to help people in need. We are afraid of death, of blood. There are a lot of reasons one would hesitate jumping in. Even thinking it is in some way a hoax and you don't want to be fooled.
