I sort of noticed that there are many threads that exist multiple times and the numerous newbies seem to have problems with finding those so it just gets worse with that. Merging threads is rarely a solution because it just makes things messy, especially with the bigger threads.
To avoid all of this and to prevent that discussions are scattered all over the forum I thought about making a list of threads which are about popular INTP-related topics like imsonia, depression, career or whatever.
This list will then be sticky here in the forum and will be send to all new members.


Any thoughts on that?

Well I guess when you lurk long enough to see the same topics pop up again and again you might find the waste of brain power these recurring topics are.

I would actually suggest composing an FAQ for each major topic that anyone can edit like a wiki, because if you left it to any one person it would never get done. Besides, it would suck to trawl through all the posts to get a good answer to your question. Is this doable in the forum's framework?

Maybe another way to describe what Anthile's suggesting is a grand index of the forum? Sorted by topic (tags), with links to all the threads...?

But, I think Oblivious is right... a lot of people should be able to work on it otherwise it'll take much too long for a small number of people...

Suggestion: create a forum devoted to the threads that are essential to the INTP experience and have it somewhat up towards the top of the forum list. Then comb the forum and stick all the best and most helpful threads in there.

Second thought - honestly, the problem of duplicate threads isn't coming from these threads being hard to find... Most of them are readily apparent with the search function...

The problem is the search function isn't being used in the first place...

I guess I'm saying - if it needs to stop, a carrot approach seems unlikely to work.

Perhaps it's just me, but I find that the search function throws up all sorts of random stuff seemingly unrelated to what I'm looking for or if it's considered 'common' words, it won't even look.

The search function isn't terribly useful I've found in most situations... I was curious if anyone had brought up any astrology comparison to mbti, I did end up finding the threads on it, but since it's mentioned so often there was a lot of other junk I had to sift through... And now, this thread will be included in any search for 'astrology' as well...

Oddly enough, I know there was a guide for IRC somewhere, so I just searched IRC and nothing came up, at all, whatsoever, which really seems weird.

I know I under-use the search function; but then, I rarely make new topics unless it's actually something directly personal about me that I have desire input on.
