i also tend to fall in love with older objects with vintage look but we dont do ourselves a favor if we walk around like a bum.
i once bought heavy boots (handwag bergler) because i was impressed that another guy used those boots of 16+ years. but then i lost weight, became capable of running and didn't feel like being bogged down anymore.
i wear lem's primal 2 right now. they are similar to whats in the attached video, but have 3mm sole and 3mm insole, so slightly thicker than whats in the video. lem's won't last forever but are not really fragile either. xero shoes are also a brand that is know for using lasting sole material in minimal shoes like their xcursion model (they also have sandals) and their soles are even a bit thicker then lem's, about 8mm total stack height i think.
super thin shoes are not ideal for some tasks, but are good training for your feet. you can sense which part of your bones you rest most weight on, which allows you to become aware of silly motions with excessive pronation or supination.
for long distance running (40min) a foamy stack height of 15mm > would be better. for lazy walking, foam on the heel of a zero drop shoe is comfortable. for running, you should never go over the heel so it doesn't matter.
i can't get my head around why anyone would want arch support. perhaps this is related to how people always wear shoes that are way too narrow, and break your outermost toe, preventing you from resting your weight on the outermost toe, were it belongs, forcing you to pronate your foot and rest much of your weight more on the inside of your foot, which can only be done if you have arch support, because the arch is not designed to carry weight, its hanging way up in the air, duh.
once your cartilage is broken from permanent supination tho, you may be unable to put your foot into a stable, upright position. however, if you always have had arch support, then your cartilage should not be too broken, even tho you are used to pronating and resting your weight on your arch. hence you should still be able to put your foot upright, without support, if you only get a shoe, that is wide enough to support weight on the outermost toe. do you ever get pain in the middle of your foot? its a pretty sure sign of too narrow shoes. when the toes are twisted, their joints don't align well with the walking motion.
in regards to your action movie, i have two philosophical suggestions.
you should not enact the cultural script of the lonesome cowboy who sacrifices himself to protect others. this is out of date and is illegal. you should demand loyalty and protection from others, who you protect. mutual protection. no chance this guy is insane enough to attack all of you at once. you only go there with witnesses, all of whom have smartpones and if youre gonna protect anyone with a gun, dont just protect yourself, meaning dont be alone with a gun, only use it to protect others, who are going to be witnesses of your motive. use the presence of others to protect yourself in this way. if you're ever alone with a lunatic, run.
also it sounds like this guy is not a killer in cold blood, but a paranoid who feels threatened by a dog abusing family and wants to intimidate you into more conscientiousness, with empty threads, to protect himself from legal threads you may have plotted upon him, for stealing/saving your dog.
