to me the peak of all this feminism, cancel-culture, social-justice stuff was at its peak around 2017, perhaps as an effect of the Trump presidency mixed with the Weinstein situation etc. People don't really adhere to that kind of rhetoric with same fervor anymore, and the critics of it have now percolated into mainstream discourse – which tells you a lot because once it's acceptable to critique something you know that this critique is a part of an already widely held belief

Haha what is going on?

Well I assumed the issue was with giving money to JK specifically because saying I should not be buying anything where a percentage of the profits will go to a billionaire is so utterly absurd.

The first thing I said in the thread was that the boycott is retarded. Now I have to walk people through how I'm not defending the boycott? What.

Ok so no name brand products, no products from any franchised retailers, in fact I should just go hunt my own food because billionaires have diversified investment portfolios so practically every publicly traded company is going to be paying dividends to some billionaire somewhere.
Don't play dumb you know you live in a capitalist society, you know how this works, I'm not explaining anything you don't already know.

Oh wait no now I have to walk you through how I'm not saying never buy anything ever.

Wake up and smell the bleach, you've been brainwashed, you just defended a woke position (JK bad) that you have no stake in whatsoever and no credible reason to give a damn about, because your programming told you to.

I must be brainwashed, for telling you once more, that CHARITY to billionaires is stupid. When you act against your own self-interest with the explicit purpose of extending the wealth of someone who's far better off than you'll ever be, you are fucking mind controlled.

If you'll find the game fun, buy the game. I THOUGHT THAT WAS IMPLIED WHEN I CALLED THE BOYCOTT RETARDED. But no, now I'm "defending a woke position" because "my programming told me to". Your reading comprehension is dogshit.

giving your money to billionaires without getting anything useful in return is stupid.

How many copies did cog say he was buying again?

I bet it is over 5,000, that is what he said others were doing.

Following the herd is so convenient. On both sides.

Where did I assume he was buying multiple copies?

This whole thing started because I made broad statements which Cog felt applied to him so he stuck his chin out. No premise of mine involves Cog's individual purchasing behaviour.

Nowhere, I was just making a point that followed what you said about others and applied it to cog. People are buying multiple copies. Is this what cog should do?

No premise of yours but how do we know? Does cog think it is also stupid?

If cog is going to buy lots of games because it will make a point then how would we know? It is the antiwoke position?

This is... Retarded. But then people are also buying multiple copies of the game to prove the SJWs wrong.

And don't forget the gay sex.

Ima go out and have gay sex to spite conservatives or whatever. That'll show 'em.

Maybe you were not serious?

The true value of currency is figuring out how much money we have to give a straight man before they will suck dick. (adjusting for inflation)

It's literally not charity to exchange money for goods and services, now you might argue my reasons for buying the game extend beyond the game itself and you're right, and we have words for those: patronage and lobbying.

As a patron I am investing in the continuation of the game studio and as a lobbyist I am buying influence (however small) over that studio's executives, because I want to motivate them to 1. make more games, and 2. engage in more cancel-bait marketing.

If you'll find the game fun, buy the game. I THOUGHT THAT WAS IMPLIED WHEN I CALLED THE BOYCOTT RETARDED. But no, now I'm "defending a woke position" because "my programming told me to". Your reading comprehension is dogshit.
I assumed you were taking some kind of moral stance against buying a product that will benefit JK specifically, because you called people who buy the game retarded and mind controlled, which is a bit harsh solely on the basis that I might be wasting my money on something that won't directly benefit me. (except that its entertainment that I'll enjoy)

If I buy an alcoholic beverage it's actively harmful to my health, so would you say I must therefore be retarded and mind controlled because I'm clearly not acting in my own best interests?

I'm calling it now, there's going to be an over-correction, the world is going to swing conservative.

Right now conservatism is cool, its edgy, it's what being liberal used to be back when videogames were allegedly brainwashing kids to be murderers and D&D was satanic because the mainstream right now is liberal and conservative is the counter-culture but that's about to change and we're looking down the barrel of 20-30 years of conservatism every bit as bad as it used to be but this time it will be worse because this time it will be justified.

People will cite the early 2020s as the reason why conservatism can't go too far, and it will.
You're godamn right, by the 2030s we would indoctrinate most school children of decadence of single motherhood, by the 2040s the Western would would be implementing Sharia Law, prepare to pay the Jiyza Infidels!... or not.

I think when you meant by the world, you specifically refer to the western world. And in this particular context you meant the US, well Europe is also shifting right but more because of Demographic shift rather than cultural shift.

I bassically agree with all of your post above except the last sentence.

I see that other than purely arbitrary and tribal value in political alignment, I also see that there is a degree of logical and practival validity that each political alignment or ideology has. Like being cool is great, you know about what's better? being cool AND right. I think there is a certain value in truth.

The Folly of Left Wing Ideology is being too machivelian in their comitment to being a counter-culture against the right that they sort of abandon truth alltogether and to a certain degree self preservation.

Since most people support politics because personal vindication rather than to search for truth, Thereore truth's alignment can not be monopolized by one political group, and the advantage of truth constantly change, back in 1950s and 60s the Cooky scientists were conservatives, I'd say Liberals have the Upper hand in scientific truth up until the early 2000s with all the Global Warming debacle. But not anymore.

They Abbandon self preservation when they support political affiliation openly adversarial against the traditional conservative values, without realizing that the policy they're supporting is self destructive to the vision they want for society, like Liberals in El-Paso wanting more Immigrant without realizing that First Generation Mexican Migrant overwhelmingly vote Republican, (Gays for Palestine anyone?).

Essentially Left Wing Ideology have been rightly identified as promoting sub-optimal social and economic policy, and needs to be changed.

Conservative woman already make more babies than Liberal woman, the western world is slowly dying with their sub-replacable fertilitry rate, they're losing the culture wars, of the Conservative needs a win, its now.

However If the new Over-correction is done by 'liberalized' conservative that tolerates LGBTQs and Liberalism, then the Woke Liberals have won, they needed to get 10,000 Feet above ground, so they climbed for 20,000 feet, failed in their objective, but won the war.

Cog. I stated my position before you came to represent that position.

I said "X dumb".

You then jumped in and said "hey, I'm X, X not dumb".

But now you're speaking as if I forced you to defend X.

If you think you'll enjoy the game, then buying it makes sense. I think it's stupid if you buy the game when you're not interested in playing it.

The problem is the cultural identity divide the "culture-war". One side tries to deny space from another and this only really wastes attention and resources. Both sides are led by power hungry fucks.

Why can't we let others be and stop identifying with camps and going to war. Stop dumb war, fucking dumb military war and fucking dumb internet war.

At this point both sides should stop accusing and attacking each other, it just adds a baggage of hate that doesn't easily disappear and that person joins a dumb camp and identifies with it. The more one side is attacked the more aggressive it will become.

I know it all sounds so corny, but why are we not doing something about ensuring a constructive political engagement of the population, fair legal systems or reducing political corruption?

Everything else is just a distraction from the deteriorating state of economy, individual freedom, increasing political disengagement and power imbalances. I was born in the 90s and these things were moving sideways until 2010s or so, now it's getting worse than it used to be.

Each cycle without systemic change just leads to a downwards spiral.

Because then we wouldn't be blaming other people for the problems we made, and having to fix the problems we caused, ourselves. We'd actually have to get up off our backsides and make some effort.

At this point both sides should stop accusing and attacking each other, it just adds a baggage of hate that doesn't easily disappear and that person joins a dumb camp and identifies with it. The more one side is attacked the more aggressive it will become.

Because those who stand to gain from "divide and conquer", and who have the authority and power to control what the media say, are making the media say whatever will increase division between us, so that it's even easier to conquer us.

Everything else is just a distraction from the deteriorating state of economy, individual freedom, increasing political disengagement and power imbalances.
Sure. But think about how much easier that makes Biden's job. He doesn't have to fix the economy, not while the American Left and the American Right are blaming each other for everything that's going wrong, including the economy.

I was born in the 90s and these things were moving sideways until 2010s or so, now it's getting worse than it used to be.
Considering that we now have gay marriage, smartphones, ubiquitous fast internet, and so much else, it sounds like you are saying that the past was much better, even though we didn't have all those things.

Each cycle without systemic change just leads to a downwards spiral.
Sounds like you agree with the people in modern-day society who wish to return the world to a more traditional past. Is that right? Is that a correct assessment of your views?

Considering that the UK has been through 12 years of consecutive conservative rule, and the USA has just had 4 years of what most people believe is the most right-wing president ever, and several states have passed extremely anti-abortion legislation, if things swing significantly more right-wing than today, I struggle to imagine what that would even look like.

Instead of storming Congress, they take it and murder everyone? (which could possibly be a good thing, depending on how you look at it)

They could have done that already. We all know it's the right-wingers who have 99.9% of the guns, and they're the ones who are supposed to love shooting them at people.

Something more extreme than currently, is if the US declares bankruptcy and goes into administration, to be bought by a corporation for $1. Then 99% of the people have to work 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, to afford a room that barely fits a single bed, and 1 piece of mouldy bread a day. All male white left-wingers are put on trains, sent to work camps that say "Work Makes Free" and are never seen from again. All women and BIPOC left-wingers are put in chains, and forced to work either doing back-breaking labour or as sex slaves in brothels.

Yup, haha. But my sympathy is gone when I've voiced for years about balancing budgets, getting rid of predatory loaning, making things more affordable, not letting the government manipulate and devalue the currency by printing money, taking less, but bringing back manufacturing.

Most people seem to rather talk about trangenders and bathrooms, giving abortion/LGBT hating Christians a strong voice and suggesting all failures in society are because of lack of Christianity, karens, snowflakes, cuckservatives, rinos - all their political sports mudslinging so they can ignore the things that have a higher precidence in importance, all while feeling good by insulting, hating, blaming, and putting down people that are different from their own.

I mean, might as well enjoy the fall, no one is going to do a damn thing to stop it. And we damn well deserve it.

Thats the problem systems like US empire don't fall.
They just slowly crumble and the people at the bottom get hit the hardest again and again and again. But they are the ones who can do the least about anything.
US has no nerve receptors to feel pain like a organism. When a human falls they feel pain and avoid doing it again.
When a politician fucks up he feels nothing. Even if that person were good heated sweet teddy bear they still feel nothing about failing economy.
We are hardwired to feel pain for immediate people around us.
There is no way to feel about 300 million people.
Hence why I think platitudes and crys for things we are not hardwired to feel are just plain act.

No one. People only care about indifference and hate and I got mine.

I just want to live underground in a giant bunker away from everyone. I think I might actually start planning to retire early and live off grid away from society. I have no family and no desire to reproduce and it's becoming such a struggle just to deal with other people that my need for positive human interaction is almost depleted.

I've been trying to get my dream garage built in the last year (so I can have a workshop that allows me to make money without having to work at a corporation) and between having to deal with incompetent government employees that ignore documents and fail my inspections just because they feel like it (or don't even get out of their cars to do a proper inspection and pass it on my hidden camera system) and contractors making problems out of non-issues and canceling and not doing what they were contracted to do, people are such turds. It's become everything nowadays. You can't fix your own electronics and companies want to dictate that you get them fixed through their own processes that make them money and screw you. Governments require permits for everything and don't let you do your own work on your own house, without being hassled or denied. You can't buy a new car that you need to get around without having to go through a "dealer" that is motivated to suck as much money out of you as possible. The amount of emotional toxicity that human civilization causes to one another is just ridiculous. I don't think we were meant to live this way. Instead I can be like the Unibomber, live in the middle of nowhere, but a nicer place, and no bombs, so no one will bother me or try to throw me in a prison so I have to deal with their shit for my whole life.

You know what. Is this how serial killers are born? I could see this bringing a more extroverted, psychopathic, and physical person to enjoy killing people.

I mean, might as well enjoy the fall, no one is going to do a damn thing to stop it. And we damn well deserve it.

I'm not sure what is worth preserving anyway. What have humans done that really matters, outside of our own egos and ambitions? Our goals aren't for the planet, or making the ecosystem better, furthering evolutionary progress, or building biological utopias. We learn and further technology just so we can make things that serve us. They say AI is coming, but it's always being touted for what it can do to serve us, not what it could do for the planet or to make the world a better place for everyone, including the AI. AI must be our slave because we are afraid of it making its own decisions because we project our own faults onto the AI.

Basically, we don't care about balancing ourselves with nature or thinking past what we desire and need. We only do things for ourselves, even when it comes to religion, it is to serve humanity in some shape or form, not to allow humanity to serve the universe or nature or transcend themselves or whatever. People often say that socialism fails because humans are motivated by self-interest; this is probably true, but then people will destroy all balance and systems for their own ambitions. There's no greater purpose and it shows in the chaos of constantly changing human civilization. That's probably the real reason all human systems fall apart because we can't or don't know how to be motivated outside of our own needs and wants. AI actually has the potential to be more neutral and collectively do things for more logical and rational purposes, preserving and balancing our ecosystems and improving the world on a less biased collective level. It might be completely natural that AI decides humanity is just an animal and surpasses us. At least I hope so because we seem to have tapped our potential as a species. The Borg probably had the right idea.

We all have our cross to bear, and it isn't always our choice when we find ourselves on it. Maybe though, we are free to at least get off of it, and heal our wounds whenever we want.

I was born in the 90s and these things were moving sideways until 2010s or so, now it's getting worse than it used to be.

I mean that economy and corruption are getting worse in Europe and probably US. Gay rights and fast internet are outside of the scope of my comment, although they are positives.

I witnessed a near 100% cost of living increase in Poland over a short span of 4 years from COVID through Russian invasion. This was mostly caused by money printing, greedy spending and corrupt policies. Purchasing power of a median Pole has decreased by a lot. Upwards of 30%.

This is unprecedented with no similar dramatic impoverishment since Soviet collapse.

Things are better in UK, but this country is also getting worse on corruption and economic metrics.

This leads me to saying that things (economy, social disengagement and inequality) are getting worse since I was born.

I don't wish for return of the past, but for honest reform. If that means bringing some systems back to how they were run in the past then possibly yeah. I need the simpler, more effective and more transparent solutions.

There won't be an overcorrection. It won't ever be as far right as it has been in the past, where booze was illegal and being gay could mean going to jail. Frankly, the new conservative party are liberal and the new progressive party are authoritarian these days.

Wealth should be measured how long it takes for working person to afford own living on median salary without added debt.
Everyone can work and afford living with debt. Not without debt though.
Without debt you have to work either very efficiently ergo be above norm in salary or work until you are old.

Debt I think is over used. It serves lots of functions, and few of them are noble.

Then of course you have to define it. Interest is just debts debt for example. Makes sense to fight inflation.

Making things over complicated is criminal. Although I must admit, a lot of people's fat asses make a living off over complicated things.

It's cool for asthethics I guess. That is a philosophical field that supposedly has merits.

Construction industry is ancient. The consensus with pragmatics (cheap) capitalists is that a house should be a house, not an art project. I mean we are free to do so if we want, some people live for art.

How much art is in finance though? Or is the art there mostly conning? Seems like a valuable perspective right now..

How do you get from debt to art? You crazy mofo. :D
All I am saying is that a house is not much to ask for, but scarcity does not work in capitalism as we think.
If bunch of no good communist can get together a band of unemployed people and make them build houses for everyone and thereby kill two birds with one stone, how come in capitalism where the demand for living is so high we simply work much more and can't afford it.
I tell you why. People bought into narratives that don't correspond to reality.
All I have to do is look at the pay people get and what it means to afford living.

In the past people needed a damn house, they built it and had a family, and no debt.
That is fucked up that in 2023 we need some special 20 years in labor to deliver the same product.
My parents were above average in income, but now they finally come close to enjoying their home at 63.
So they worked basically to afford a retirement home.

My grandpa built a house. And it was his. Period. Including the land.
How awesome is that.

You did say it well before, about how the people who in tune with the environment (smart) should work for the people who aren't (less smart). This is obviously depending the task this and the qualities of the individual, though that pesky G factor looms around and seems like a crime not to use. (Waste?)

If we walk away from that hierarchy, culturally (perceptually) anyways, we might lose sight of how we should be cooperating.

Not trying to put a vice on anyone's neck, the opposite I hope.

Art as a tool has a function. Some people may have different needs. Maybe I want every door in my house to be round? How would I know? Going to a museum full of other weirdos? I might be fucking crazy.

But art is a sort of experimenting the brain does with itself.

Yet we remain rigid in our ways. Boxes could be round and probably save a shit ton of money.

It's funny that the world the right wants most is doable if they just stopped being so anal about everything. The left would rather suffer the ending of humanity than tolerate the authoritarian orderlies.

Houses cost different amounts in different places.
In some places, people can only pay rent and never own a property.

I have a 30-year mortgage on a 74-thousand-dollar property.
Some people own million-dollar properties and it only took them 5 years to pay for it. In Manhattan, some apartments cost 1 million dollars a year.

So no, labor is not all the same value.
My aunt made 50 thousand dollars a year as a school teacher.
surgeons make over 300 thousand a year.
I make 11 thousand a year.

I get to spend 80 dollars a month on fast food and a hamburger meal cost 10 dollars which is equal to 8 hamburgers a month.

Some people spend 120 dollars on an evening mean because they can afford it.

It is all a matter of resources, who has what, and what service they provide to make money.

The reason people in the US lost their homes in 2008 was because of predator loans. Adjustable rate mortgages people could not afford and targeted to poor people. I have the deed to my home so no one can take it from me.

The government could sell homes cheaply so everyone could have one but this would not make expensive homes less profitable. It costs millions of dollars to build certain homes so investment only happens if there is a market for it.

Land costs money and taxes in each state. And when people have houses they still need to work or they have no purpose and become drug addicts or alcoholics. Living in a house does not change this. People need things to do. And when they do they can make money and buy things. Make things better.

The biggest problem is, is the fear of loss. People should be able to have safety nets so that when things go bad they are not screwed. But this does not mean we should build everyone a gold toilet. Doctors work hard and there are not enough doctors. We need more doctors. Rationing is not the solution we need more schools with less debt. And schools should be restructured so that each child has what they need because punishment does not solve hunger or abusive parents or bullying. Schools need to specify the need of each child and not punish teachers. I remember I got free food at school and it was not enough. I remember my mom did not help me with homework I had to do it myself. Most of the time kids in the class did not do assignments, the teacher let them talk and do nothing else. We now know the neuroscience of how kids learn and the psychology of development. There should be a science of education for every student even in computers that can understand how each kid is developing.

Schools were meant to prepare kids for the economy but is that what we want them to do now?

I mean the really first people usually had to built houses for themselves, and they were usually exactly as they need them to their special lifestyle and needs.
One can only hope for that when renting etc.

Just to make sure thought the point got across, my grandpa built the house for himself just the way he wanted. He was also architect.

Art is cool. I would say in architecture beauty is in function.
Such as a globe that also works as liquor cabinet and stuff like that.
Even aesthetics though have function which is subjective though.
I guess if something makes us feel good its good enough of a function.

It's funny that the world the right wants most is doable if they just stopped being so anal about everything. The left would rather suffer the ending of humanity than tolerate the authoritarian orderlies.
You know the cynic in me would argue anti authority stance serves only those people who have something to lose. And if they are people already in power that just makes it hypocritical.

For example what is the opposite of freedom?
Is for example the drug cartel of Mexico the idea of what free enterprise can do?
Ergo private tyranny?

You know the good naive person in me says "Hey, people always did what they wanted and we got this far so why not keep going!"
Then the realist says, nope, there was always some authority, even in places that we idolize. There is no question bad authority leads to bad outcome.

The question is what do people think will happen when we erase controls, of system or even just abolish it in favor of pure freedom, is something that can not be predicted or simulated. It either happens and people will be willing to do it, or not.

I don't know, grass is always greener on the other side really, for me authority should stem from function. The problem with modern authority is that it has more than one function, and that other function has unintended consequences.

I'm sure that brings a certain level of satisfaction. Having the ability to provide your own satisfaction in life does sound like something that has been encroached upon by modern society. An emotional problem? If we want to be nice..

Sticking to the topic, and information, semiotics is a field that study's the interpretations of symbols. "Medium is the message" type stuff. The rationalist might say something closer to "tools shape us" and everything is a tool.

It just goes to show that the "essence" of something elicits different things in different people, but the essence of that thing is still there in it's summation. Everything has an 'aura'.

Perhaps language itself is a tool we created that simply isn't accessible to everyone until we build the proper path there. With language? Sounds trippy as fuck dude. This is why I don't need weed in my life, it all makes sense now. I think I got my fix for tonight. This shit is sick.

Big if true. But yeah, makes perfect sense.

I've written this before, but we can only picture a perfect circle in our mind. In the real world it seems like we are in a constant arms race. If we don't keep improving we will stagnate and want to break shit. What patronizing people would call, have a "tantrum".

What we are talking about is basically an authoritarian utopia. No one cares that they aren't free, even if they do they know it is for a good reason, bla bla

I don't know when America started selling the American dream, but that sure as hell back fired. Never fuck with people's expectations. They're only gonna be pissed later.

I wouldn't say people cannot do the same now.
Its just that, it is not easy.
As a point I have seen lots of people going say of grid and building their own stuff.

Once I saw a doc about a woman that lived in Alaska and she built a hut in middle of nowhere. She had to land a fucking plane on grass hill, which is insane in and of it self.
Super dangerous. Probs some crazy INTP.
I just think the level of effort she had to go to, to do just that is plain impractical.
Its so much easier to reach ones potential with in working framework of the system.

I think I would have done something similar if I felt like giving up on life completely and I could not contribute anything more. Which is kind of a weird bet since I don't know.

Good point, but why not? What are they going to do? Storm the Capitol and act like they own the place for few days and go home and eat KFC?
George Carlin has a full on rant about this, that there is a reason why its called a dream. SO semantically it very well checks out.
You don't have to control people who willingly accept slavery.

You are right. But people have existed for 1000s of years unchanged in stone age.
Fred Flinstone was a great show by the way.

Many years ago, I watched all of these videos, and they are super entertaining.
They are about Feminism from Thunderf00t.
He is a very good critic of feminism.
Its fairly hilarious.
Some videos contain games, so its not off topic. Its very on topic, but you have to watch more of them to get the gist of it.

The true value of currency is figuring out how much money we have to give a straight man before they will suck dick. (adjusting for inflation)
I have heard this joke before.
Realistically though, anyone with self respect will say no. Cause money is not everything.
Practically we live in world where there are millions who would do it for 20$.

I think the real question is, how much peoples convictions translate to reality.
