Who gives a shit?

I have a very hard time seeing anything really amazing in athletics.

I mean, wow you put a lot of time into getting your body to do something, right on.

Also the Olympics have such a moral agenda, yuck.

So my question is, do the Olympics and sport in general interest you?

There are a few sports that I do enjoy watching.

1. American Football, the tactics of that game are just great to watch, I love it.
2. Curling
3. Equestrian, I just like the clothes.

Im not interested in sports, people here are football fanatics, if you tell them you dont have a favourite team they stare... blink... "what ?" :p

I rarely watch some tennis, thats all.

I apreciate the "effort and perseverance" message and all but, you know, Its not for me anyway.

Yeah, I do watch some tennis sometimes, but I do like the Olympics. Other than that, I don't watch much of anything regularly. Boxing is cool to watch sometimes but only because I've tried it before so I know what the boxers are feeling.

All sport bores me, other than when the players are interesting for reasons other than their skills. And I still wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.

In honesty, I'm not a terribly huge sports fan either (I'm under the impression that us INTP types are not), but the only sports that interest me in the Olympics are Fencing and Tennis. I don't watch sports except for tennis matches, but mainly the Open matches.

Fencing is more so skill of where to be at the right time, but Tennis take this aspect and adds a very tough element of mental strength in the match. The best example I can give of this is this year's Wimbledon Men's Final match.

I am not a huge sports fan neither. Sometimes i watch soccer (in big events like the just over european championship, but it is mostly to look the sport itself, it is a team sport with tactics...), but normally i find that looking sports bores me or makes me somewhat jealous. I mean, i find some actions in sport quite amazing, but that is just so. No reason to get myself in a rigid exercise/training.
Recently i for the first time in my life picked up a sport. I do di Aikido now, that is a japanese martial art, which is very defensively and tries to just harmonize with the force of the attacker, so it's not aggressive. I find it to be great to learn some body control, some better feeling for the movements etc.
But i know, that to become good, really good, at some sport you have to really train hard and long times for it and that is just too much for me to pay. I don't want to waste my time training only for then being able to make 50 pushups^ (You know what i mean)
I know for my health i should do at least a bit sport, but other than that i wouldn't have enough motive (if it is not for the fun).

Well, it is of course a 'social situation' you know. But of a different kind than your typical conversation in school or university, or parties or what. In my course (it was a sport course in the university, not in a dojo; that is lika a club of Aikido) there were 30 people beginning and after a few sessions there were only aboutten left ;) And so the people staying are the ones who are really interested. Aikido is not very solitudal. I mean, most of the things you train you train with partner. Aikido is not like some other martial art, where you can practise katas (moves) all for yourself all day. Aikido is a martial art, where you interact quite much with the attacker. That means the objective is to harmonise_/synchronise with the strength and energy (kinetic energy; i'm not esoteric here ;)) of the attacker and barely have to use own strength. You melt with the movement of the attacker and when you are out of the attack way you just guide it in another way and the attacker goes to ground. It really is quite beautiful and interesting to watch and to do. There is much body physics (mechanical physics).

So, in light of the 'INTP-suitability': I think it is suitable. Although it is of course a social situation, and Aikido only works with a partner (note that the 'atacker' normally is called partner ;) Aikido really is not something for aggressiveness), if the people are not so nice as to talk with them, you can just focus on your training a be the 'mute' partner. It is in any case better to not talk during training. So if you don't have problems with having physical contact with other people there should be no obstacle.

P.S.: Oh and one thing: Aikido is something which really needs a long time to become very good at. If you look videos of Aikidoka on Youtube (and there are some good ones) and would like to do these things yourself be aware that it rather takes you years to accomplish. In the short term Aikido can give you a good amount of body control (and hopefully fun ;))

Who wants to know?
I'm not interested in most sports, but I find watching sports once in a while to be extremely interesting. I like watching table tennis the most (I play the sport) and watching people and the ball zoom around at unnatural speeds. :) At least I'm reasonably good at playing it.

Thanks a lot for the insight Ogion, I will give it a try. I will probably go with a co-worker so having someone familiar will help get trough the first classes I guess.

Only sports I ever watch are table tennis and tennis.

I play table tennis myself, so that's why I'm interested in those two (table tennis is far more interesting though!)

I am actually fairly interested in some sports like soccer, tennis, and track bicycle racing, but the Olympics just bore me. I think that one of its main purposes to bring the world together through the medium of athletics is overshadowed by the World Cup. Many people only pay attention because of the tradition of the institution.
