I could say I would survive better if I were an INTJ. All of this unnecessary redundancy that tries to eat up my sleep while only crumbs of social life are still on the plate.
If the redundancy goes then so does my right of remaining silent.
Well, the ability to tolerate redundancy when it is against one's 'nature as an INTP' is one to be strived for.
As for advice--
What do you think of telling your family/bosses that you plan to go to college to develop a work ethic and general down-to-earthness?
Whatever it is that they want, you can probably make the case that college will help with developing it.
Hopefully saying something like that would make your family happy, and I'm pretty sure college is an experience worth having, so it's a win-win. Doing something like this will leave you with less reason to be stressed about what'll happen if college ends up not working out. Oftentimes stress only gets in the way of what it wants.
Do you
want to stay at the family business? You've implied that you don't, but you haven't yet said so.
If so, I second ProxyAmenRa's advice:
Abandon the business and engage in a pursuit that you're interested in but also can earn a living doing.
Also, you might want to give us a rough idea of how old you are, as it's worth taking into consideration on life stuff like this.
But yeah that's my pipe dream sort of... I develop an amazing software and Microsoft/Google/Apple/Facebook wet themselves seeing it so they put down $ 40 million and I agree while I wet myself too.
Whoa. Back to life.
Yeah I still haven't got C++ licking my fingers and begging for more. Rather she's rather upset that I have left her alone just about half way again.
If you're interested in big stuff like that, I'd check out web [app] development. It's a
lot easier to get significant attention, or at least get credibility from the big players with a popular website.
You seem to be interested in programming and linux; why not look into becoming a software engineer or something similar? If you have the time and inclination to fool around with
slackware, you probably have the time to learn the stuff you need for software engineering. It'll likely be fun and interesting.
Also, degrees/qualifications/etc matter far less in the industry than they do in others. It's easier to make it while taking an unconventional path, which is especially good for INTPs, I think.
