Thought I'd start a soccer thread for anyone interested.

My fave team is Barcelona. I supported them since I was young because my favourite players were Romario and Rivaldo.

I have been long suffering since, but now they've got a team that plays some beautiful football.

^The soccer in that video is pretty freaking awesome, man...

I like watching soccer. If it's on TV I might tune in, but I don't have a team or anything. I guess I'd be called a casual fan? But overall, I'm just into the excitement and the 'technique' of the sport. =]

Yeah, very rare possession passing style...not even the great Brazil play like this!!!

haha I watched a Sydney vs. Melb game and that was such a scrap...no technique at all - lol

Lol, Australia's never been a very soccer-obsessed country, until recently... But maybe we can change that. :) When was that game on?

I watch the Premier League from time to time as it actually gets airtime here in the states on one of the ESPN chanels. I prefer the World Cup though, it just seems so much bigger and more 'important'.

Yeah, I'm from Sydney - that game was in October. I rarely watch the A-league, but my friend [originally from Melb] wanted to ignite some state rivalry.
Another game is coming up next weekend on Fox.

I hope we can do well in the World Cup - I saw the draw. We drew Ghana, Serbia and Germany. Very tough :(

haha...much more passion present in the WC definitely. There is one more competition that you may be interested in watching.
It's arguably tougher than the WC - Champions League, and held in very high prestige.

For now, here are some...well theatrical plays

Doh! Forgot to mention the Champions League but I do watch that as well. It's hard to find stats/standings on it or even info on who gets to participate but yes, there is a high level of play there. Certainly higher than the WC but the passion for the WC can't be matched in my view. When it comes on next year, I will stay uplate/wake up very early to watch every match. I think they will come on starting around 6am here, maybe a couple hours later. My sleep schedule will revolve around it as much as possible.

Qualification is based on the 'strength' of your league, so for example teams from England, Spain and Italy all qualify by finishing in the top four, but those from smaller leagues such a Belgium have to win their league to qualify.

The Champions league is undoubtedly the highest quality of football in the world, however the world cup has national pride attached to it and therefore evokes something else in fans.

Yeah definitely more passion when national pride is at stake. I was fortunate to backpack while Euro 2004 was on in Portugal. I saw alot of German and English fans clashing over casual remarks about one's country being stronger. lol...good times.

IB, I'll be doing the same - planning my sleep around all the fixtures. I hope it will be a more attacking WC rather than the drab defensive tactics of the last WC.

Been looking at some long distance goals - so Stevie Gerrard came up

Just some of the upcoming [mouthwatering] UCL clashes:

1) Lyon vs. Real Madrid
2) AC Milan vs. Man U - I think this one will be a cracker, with slight edge to Man U
3) Inter Milan vs. Chelsea - I suspect this will be boring "park the bus" sort of football
4) Barca v. Stuttgart [mainly just to watch Barca]

Intp's enjoy watching sports?

A mass appreciatted, endlessly futile and entirely intellectually flaccid activity?

Taking part maybe, but watching?

I doubt it is so.

Haha Melkor. I love the way you describe it. =D

I don't know. Always been too lazy to play any sport that requires physical efforts. But I love watching sports. Err, nobody else does? :s

No, I hear a few INTP'S enjoy playing it, but watching seems kinda boring, unless you were born and bred to be a fanatic.

Then I suggest you be drowned, things bred for a single purpose are often narrow-minded, hideous in form and genetically inferior.

However, there are exceptions, such as the luffly Irish wolfhound, but theirs was a case of degrading from ferocious celtic war-dog to scraggly-passive cuties over centuries of being fed whisky and mashed taters.

If you are as cute as said hound you are forgiven, if not, see also 'Death by hanging'.
