Buh this was turned into a popularity contest the moment someone implied differences in posting quality.
There was something about the thread I didn't like, but I couldn't pinpoint it exactly. I think this is part of it. I think it might be part what one implies when one says someone are high quality posters. Which is that anyone not in that category are not. This is probably not intentional, but it could be interpreted that way.
Likewise, mentioning a few members from one category who have "more going for them" could also imply the rest don't. Though, again, probably not intentional. It could merely be they don't know the rest of the group well enough to say the same about them.
I think for some this could lead to a feeling of inadequacy. Like there are certain selected users that "always" contribute in a meaningful way, while others do not.
The only logical path is to ridicule everyone who are well respected so we can knock them off their high horses. And make posting less of a big deal, because I think some might be intimidated. BUT we can't do it obviously, because then everyone knows what we are doing.
Categorizing can be a bit entertaining, though, as you get to see what people look for and how they categorize people. Even when they do it jokingly.
