I noticed that in IB's thread, many people mentioned they don't feel they belong here entirely. So I became curious...

Where do you belong?

You can answer it in terms of physical location, in terms of surrounding company, in terms of spirituality, the metaphysical, or in whatever way(s) best explain where you'd feel most at home.

I feel I don't belong here, but everyone else seems to feel that way too, so I suppose I belong here =]

but besides that, in my own head, it's the only place I feel entirely comfortable.

Why do I get this strange feeling "nowhere" is going to turn out as quite common, possibly overpopulated location?

Well I don't feel out of place here, but if there was somewhere I felt I belonged more it would be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Nah, I think "belonging" is a completely subjective notion and not dependent on where you actually happen to be. It's a mental game, you can talk yourself into belonging anywhere, just like you can talk yourself right out of it. Depends a lot on your experiences though.

We have to create a place where we belong.

You could add some sort of retaliatory device...lasers maybe?

There is a cozy cabin in the mountains with one wall covered in shelves with books. There is a big fireplace with a slab of stone at the bottom perfect for baking bread. It has a lovely little herb garden off the back door that the goats keep getting into. The chicken hutch is just off to the left.

Half my heart and most of my soul lies in this place and someday I will find it.

Wow that sounds like paradise. Toss in a crystal clear mountain lake and its perfect. Don't you just love that rope swing hanging down from the weeping willow in the front yard?

If I find it I promise you can come over whenever you want.

As something or someone else, I presume.
So long as one remains deeply flawed in mentality, that which surrounds them, regardless of quality, can be corrupted, perverted.

Which technically means that "I" don't belong anywhere, not now, not as I am.

I do not know, friend. Home is where the heart is and I think we all belong at "home". It is always possible to do housecleaning, both mentally and physically, to make the environment, a less corrupt, more pleasant place to be, in order to heal a wounded soul. Home a place of safety and security - if it is not, it is not really a 'home'...

This forum has been a placed of safety and security for a few travelers...

I suggest I could put the coordinate here but then
I think I should add robots to your "paradise". Doing housechores is a drudgery.

My favorite place to be: Doing an experiment in an old-fashioned laboratory that is within an amazing library with infinite books that is within an endless forest, while at the same time floating in open space.

Where do I belong?

That is a very good question to which I simply don't have an answer. When I look, I simply can't access a feeling of 'belonging'. For as long as I can remember I have felt unbelonging, if there is such a thing. I do feel strong connections to people and places - but 'belonging' - never. I feel quite at home here in the sense that I feel I have a place here, familiar faces and a sense that I can relax and be myself.

What is 'belonging' anyway? In my mind it feels like finding myself somewhere where I would stop feeling like there was somewhere else to be.

I don't know that I feel I belong here. They just haven't tried to get rid of me yet (they haven't become viciously angry at me yet). So, that's better than most of the other places I've tried.

One out of ten is good, if you only need one I guess.

One of many places I visited last month that I belong in.

I just need the Internet, paper, and books.

Eh, it's true. I think I've just gotten used to it. But finding a copy of my favorite book in a bookstore is like seeing an old friend. You greet, go over old times, and then depart with an air of sad amiability.

Definitely going to need a library in my cozy cabin.
